When I first saw the still photo, I was annoyed Bond hadn’t shut the driver’s door properly. Then I saw the film, knew that M was sleeping when he got out, and he left the door that way so as not to wake her. That’s filmmaking.

All due respect to the older Bond movies, but in my opinion, Casino Royale and Skyfall are the two best James Bond movies ever made, as well as the two best Bond portrayals & performances ever. The storytelling, the acting, the cinematography…top marks all the way around. Creating typical Bond outlandishness, but rooting it in modern realism & sensibility. Weaving together action, adventure, drama, and tragedy…two film masterpieces. Top marks all around, especially for Daniel Craig-who at this point, is inarguably one of the two best Bond actors ever, at the least. Sean Connery is the only other one you could even make a case for.
@andresferrari5859
@andresferrari5859 2 года назад
In my opinion which I know is not shared by many. Craig and Connery are the two best Bonds and a case can be made that Craig may be the best with his gritty portrayal of Bond. Then there are the movies themselves. In my opinion, Craig's films are the best overall. Its a shame that Timothy Dalton didn't do more films. He also played a gritty Bond and I liked him as Bond. As much as I like Rodger Moore, I feel his films as Bond are the weakest.
@sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052
@sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052 2 года назад
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think at least some of us would agree in saying Timothy Dalton was much closer to the original portrayal in the novels - does that make him a better Bond or not, I will leave everybody to judge that for themselves. As far as I go, I used to really, really enjoy both Casino Royale and Skyfall the first couple of times, but as time went on I found myself less and less enthusiastic about them. Maybe it's general fatigue, I find it unlikely for Quantum of Solace and Spectre to spoil it for me. No, I think I'm just getting tired of turning everything into some dull, gritty movie. Same thing happened to me with Chris Nolan's Batman movies, I used to really enjoy them, but then I just grew out of it. Anyway, long story short, I always thought there has to be a middle ground between Craig's gritty world and Moore's almost campy approach. Turns out it's most other Bond movies.

I remember many people used to criticise the fact the filmmakers apparently 'destroyed a lovely, old house' in the making of this film. Au contraire, this house, both the exterior, and interior, were fabricated from scratch for the film. The outside of the house was merely an empty shell, rigged with explosives, on a British army field, in Surrey, England. All of the interior was built on a soundstage at Pinewood Studios. Still, it looks so real, and beautiful.

Fun fact, there were rumors that Connery was set to be considered to play Kincaid. However assuming that Connery who was happily retired would’ve been willing to come out of retirement briefly, the producers opted not to out of concern his appearance would’ve been distracting from the rest of the film. Additionally it would’ve given credence to the theory that alongside the agent given the designation 007, they would be given the alias James Bond
@marcokrueger3399
@marcokrueger3399 2 года назад
I can see that in some cases, the codename theory makes sense, but how would Kincade recognise him as "James Bond" here, when he has just known him as a kid and clearly doesn't know that he works for MI6? What made Skyfall the best Bond was that it took all the formula Bond tropes and reversed them. Instead of an old man, Q was young. The high-tech gadgets were a gun and a radio. The damsel in distress was M. Instead of the villains fortress, the final fight was Bond's ancestral home. They even made Bond himself a physical wreck who couldn't shoot. He didn't even get his car until late in the movie, and the only thing he used was the machine guns. All Bond had to rely on was himself, but that was enough.

I never realised, until just now, that the excellent character part of Kincaid was played by the late great Albert Finney. No surprise then that Kincaid’s character adds so much to the film. By far my favourite Bond film of all time. One other unmentioned fact about Skyfall is the music/film score. It expertly and cunningly enhances the menace of many scenes, it is dark and in some ways raises the anxiety level in what is about to happen next.

Epic cinematography moment in this clip. Watch when Bond enters the house and leads the way. There comes a point where M changes from taking in her surroundings of the house to stopping and focusing on Bond. At that point, she's empathising with Bond and wondering how it would of been for him to grow up in such circumstances. When the camera shot changes from looking directly at M to looking at Bond over M's shoulder, Bond has drastically shrunk in size. Depiction of the little lost boy that she decided to look after under her wing. One of the best filmmaking shots of the entire series in my opinion.

This scene showed bonds vulnerable side which sets it apart from all the other 007 movies. Absolutely love that scene where bonds 'old' car gets reintroduce. I really think that Daniel Craig is the best bond of all of them but McCartneys live at let die is hands down the best bond music!

This right here, is why "SKYFALL" might be the best Bond film of them all, and here's why. There are two scenes in "SKYFALL" that are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT , and this is one of them. This scene right here, is the first scene in the HISTORY of the Bond franchise that begins to dive into James Bond's past. "SKYFALL" is the first Bond film ever made, that makes an attempt (a solid successful one, mind you) to give Bond a backstory and a "history" ... when it comes to his parents, his upbringing, where he came from, and how he got recruited to MI6. While his backstory got expanded a lot more in the following film "SPECTRE", "SKYFALL" was the first film to crack it open ever so slightly. No previous Bond film before "SKYFALL", ever really made an attempt to give Bond a backstory or history ... "GOLDENEYE" did it a lil bit, when Bond confronts 006/Trevelyan late in the film. It was a solid attempt, but it didn't have the kind of results that "SKYFALL" had. The other scene in "SKYFALL" that is so important in terms of building character and depth to Bond ... is the 'word association' scene he does with the psychiatrist/doctor earlier in the film. Its the first scene IN THE HISTORY of the Bond franchise, that makes an attempt to dive DEEP into Bond's psyche. Its a short scene, but its extremely effective when you not only think DEEP about this answers, but how quickly he answers them. When the doctor says "Country", and Bond quickly replies with "England", that tells you his ULTIMATE LOYALTY. Its not to the women he's with ... its not to his boss M ... his ultimate loyalty is to his country more than anything.

I remmeber the aprehension for Craig to be Bond, myself included. I really liked Layer Cake but wasnt exactly the model James Bond. Exactly what it needed. A grittier version, long gone are the days of fixing cufflinks (except that one tongue in cheek scene ha) and made him IMO the best Bond to date. Some real big shoes to fill after NTTD.

00:34 "...How old were you when they died..." "...You know the whole story..." "...orphans often make the best recruits..." "...a storm is coming..." then a slight and knowing smile by both them. There is a deep connection between them that went far beyond employee and boss, more like mother and son. Very insightful and heartwarming scene, in my opinion. I hope we learn the whole story in future films.

Skyfall was the perfect summation of Bond and M's working relationship over the years. The way Bond evolved from annoying M with his recklessness and questionable judgement to the both of them having compassion and understanding for one another.

How it looks on camera is all in the mind of the actor/actress as in real life the sets are dull and if you're not cool and reactive to how it would look in a film. It's like being on the other side of Alice in Wonderland's mirror. I love it.
