What if the Dragonborn goes Vampire, never dies, and is still kicking when Alduin returns? "Hey Alduin, remember me?" "Oh, God damn it."

@ThisIsTricky
@ThisIsTricky 8 лет назад
Not necessarily, the lore doesn't say they're weak, just that they're just as susceptible as humans. Meaning that unlike many other things, they don't have any defense for it. Meaning that the fire effect on you would be the same as before, so it shouldn't present that large of a weakness. Especially with enchantments.

That and, what Tricky said, by the time Alduin returns you'll be so fucking overpowered that your Lesser Ward will completely thwart all of his breath. And you'll have 100k HP.

Ulfric is a very complex character, you should have pointed out that if you kill him during the civil war, then you will meet him in Sovrengard.

Yeah, I found that out when I killed him, and met him it Sovrengard. You'd think he would have been upset about it, but he wasn't.
@tnvpm
@tnvpm 8 лет назад
***** Maybe so. Maybe (like Trump) all he cares about is recognition I chose to kill him as a direct result of the Thalmor documents. Can't have such a powerful but easily manipulated enemy running around. (Until just now, I had never realized how much like Trump he is. Now I have to get a kitten off my earbud chord.) Cheers.
@RealSancez
@RealSancez 8 лет назад
Ulfric is nothing like Trump. He's legit, Trump is not. But let's forget about Trump, that's USA problem, not ours. Let's talk about Ulfric: I choosed the Imperial, but I understand why Ulfric did what he did, and I do believe he really believes in what he say in the game. He really wants to protect Skyrim and the Nord. He's just doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, and that's why he's accepted into Sovrengard after his death. Please don't compare such a wonderful written character with such an asshole.
@dominikobora5385

he might also be let in sovrengard because he tried to keep skyrim in control of its true owners the nords(you never know also dont the imperials have different religion they did the thalos ban from what i remember but im not certain)

I like that CHIM and Zero Sum can be explained fairly easily in fact. CHIM is the state of being awake in the dream that is mundus. Awake and aware as the dreamer in the dream, lucid and able to shape it to your will. Zero Sum is effectively waking up from the dream, and therefore, removing yourself from it. The crazy shit starts when you start comprehending the fact that with CHIM you don't just change things now, but as they have always been and always will be. You want to turn all the dunmer into rabbits, bam, the dunmer have always been rabbits. And Zero Sum... well... That's the weird one, because when you zero sum, you never existed and you never zero summed, because... you didn't exist, so... The point would be, how can you explain and know a concept that erases itself?

not true, dark souls lore may be very deep but in reality it does not encompass much, while elder scrolls is much further reaching and extends upon its lore in much more theoretical aspects

Currently in the planning stage. I'm the only one who worked on my last game(When Yanderes Cry) but now I've got 2 more people to help. I believe that it's gonna be an RPG/Visual Novel hybrid. Not sure if we're going to go for a horror game or a medieval fantasy one. I just built the team yesterday so we haven't established anything at the moment.

I think the DB is Alduin reborn. Alduin is sent to the past once by humanity, I think at the end of Skyrim, when the DB defeats Alduin, Alduin is sent back by Akatosh again to clean up his mess because he didn't fucking learn his lesson about being a dick the first time around. Being reborn as a mortal was punishment, and he had to deal with his own stupidity.
@Lightscribe225
@Lightscribe225 7 лет назад
Your Wayward Destiny Here's something fun to chew on: Akatosh is insane. As is Alduin. As is Lorkhan as both Akatosh and Lorkhan were once a single god with a split personality, each personality determined to kill the other. The Dragonborn's battle with Alduin is just the latest iteration of a mad god's feud with itself.
@JonesCrimson
@JonesCrimson 7 лет назад
+Lightscribe225 You been playing with a wabbajack? Not every piece of in-game lore is canonically accurate to what actually occurred, as is intended for realism, so any two-part beings and contradictory definitions are purely fiction.

@greglarson3048
@greglarson3048 8 лет назад
The dominion may not even be a thing anymore during the next game. check out the time periods you play in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. They are set hundreds, if not at least a thousand or two years apart. The events in Oblivion are looked upon in Skyrim as ancient legends and folklore. Much like how we look at ancient Greek or Egyptian times. But as far as setting goes, I would like to play out a game in either Highrock or the Valenwood. Maybe a dlc that takes us to the Orsimer lands to engage in a tribal war.

***** i can see where the hate is coming from by the hardcore fans. In the old games you werent given waypoint markers you had to read the books and figure your way out of the dungeons. The killing of alduin was a bit meh as well. Feels like you get no rewards for completing the final mission.

"You are Shor". It gets worse. We, the players, are Lorkhan. The gods, Magnus, and all the other supernatural creatures responsible for the creation of the world are the Developers. The Daedra are bugs in the work, powerful in their own right but bound by their very nature into certain patterns they can never break out of, thus never truly being free. We are responsible for the creation of the Elder Scrolls universe, so we are Lorkhan. I don't mean your characters, I mean YOU. ME. US. The real us. The various people sitting in front of a monitor reading these words. The gods (Developers) gave the world form and shape, but as the impetus we brought it to life and are the main reason for its existence. The "punishment" of Lorkhan is merely the result of the universe explaining why we can not be there, yet directly influence and control it, hence the "dead god" that isn't present, but still has power to affect things. And Sheogorath knows. As the Madgod he KNOWS.

@roshankredemption2510
@roshankredemption2510 8 лет назад
johnathan totton - interesting thoughts! I'm aware of the mod, but I respectfully have 2 issues with what you said. 1) Bethesda intentionally cut that part out of the game, but left the Thalmor Dossier in. There must have been some sort of reasoning behind that decision. 2) The Thalmor could have let him escape, but made it look like he escaped on his own. After all, if the Thalmor had allowed him to escape, they wouldn't have wanted to let the empire know about that. If they did, the Empire would know that the Thalmor are using the Stormcloaks to deliberately weaken them. Also, don't you find it rather curious that Elenwen wants Ulfric back? If they've already interrogated him, what need would they have for him again? Just my thoughts, take it for what you will! :)

A few things, Shubham. First, the Thalmor didn't exist in the first era. They existed in the second and fourth eras. The Thalmor in the second era was a tad more friendly than the one you see in Skyrim. Second, the cradle of humanity on Tamriel is in the north, not specifically Skyrim. High Rock, Hammerfell, Skyrim, and Cyrodiil could all be called "the cradle of humanity". The Redguards are not from the same ancestry as Nords. And the Imperials were on Tamriel before both the Nords and Redguards.
@shawnjohnson7986
@shawnjohnson7986 7 лет назад
Bengt Svenson Yes he says that, but it doesn't make it true. If you read the Thalmor Dossier on Ulfric, then it states that a Stormcloak victory is not desired, the Thalmor wanted to keep Skyrim in a perpetual state of civil war. So, Tullias was actually wrong.

Alduin's original purpose, as you said in the video Roshank, was to eat the world and start anew... well I'm a very big Dragon Ball fan too and, if you haven't already heard (if you like Dragon ball at all and haven't yet hear about this I would be sorely disappointed but regardless) there is a new series out called Dragonball Super and prior to this series coming out two new movies came out Battle of Gods, and Resurrection of F. Resurrection F doesn't really have any connection to this theory but Battle of Gods very much does, because in Battle of Gods they introduced a new character, Lord Beerus the Destroyer, he is what they call in the Dragon Ball franchise a "God of Destruction." He is not an out rightly "bad" character it's just his job is... to destroy, his job is to destroy planets that's it, but he's not bad, that's just his job, he's to go around and decide whether or not a planet stays or goes, and at the time Battle of Gods came out he was the strongest being in existence (aside from his attendant Whis). Alduin's case is very similar, he has been known about in the Scrolls for... basically ever his job is basically to destroy the world and start anew... that was the point of the Gods of Destruction too in Dragon Ball they were supposed to destroy the world's so the "Kaioshin" (in japanese) the Supreme Kai's or the Gods of Creation (case in point Supreme Kai from the Buu saga) were supposed to create anew... (in the end Beerus did not end up destroying Earth or anything but that's regardless) but the basic idea behind the two is very similar and it makes me wonder... does anyone think that the creator of Dragon Ball, the one that came up with the Gods of Destruction, etc., Akira Toriyama take reference from Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls possibly do you think? Because the idea is very much the same idea.
@TheGreatAngel
@TheGreatAngel 8 лет назад
Dotagamer I know about Norse mythology... but I meant Akira getting the idea from Skyrim since it was such a massively popular game... not everyone just sits around and thinks about Norse mythology every day... yes I know about Ragnarok and all that but the timing is just kind of on point for the two

TheGreatAngel dude the concept of god of destruction and it's idea didn't came from akira toriyama he just used that concept. remember shiva the god of destruction from hindu mythology just because shiva is the god of destruction it doesn't mean he's evil because destruction has 2 meaning it can be the end of something and can also mean start of something new
@TheGreatAngel
@TheGreatAngel 7 лет назад
I should clarify (also sorry it took forever to respond youtube glitched out and I didn't remember the name of the video to come back to lol) but (I personally do not believe that Toriyama took the idea FROM skyrim specifically I guess I didn't make that point clear, I just think that there's a possibility that this game may have given him the initial "spark," so to say, for the new series, take for example, I'm a writer myself and every new book I write has some form of "spark" where it comes from, my first book was heavily influenced by the game Blue Dragon and the Diablo Sin War book trilogy, I was just trying to say it would be cool if he took the initial idea from this game because what other "current" media can you tell me about that involves this concept? Because, as I said before, not everyone goes around think about ancient greek, roman, lithuanian, etc. history and in multiple interviews Toriyama has stated that he's a free thinking artist he doesn't do research into it it just comes to him... so theres obviously gotta be some impulse to it right? I don't know... it wasn't anything to make a big deal of like its become just some food for thought

That kulpa thing blew my mind! I always felt as if "hey this is what Alduin is meant to do, why should we stop him if not to just prolong the inevitable? but then again, what would be the point? He will fulfill his duty at some point." Unfortunately Bethesda never really gives you the option of laying down your sword/ bow/ staff and accepting the will of the divine. Also, it becomes quickly apparent that Alduin is just here to once again assert dominance over man and mer and NOT to actually "eat" the world.

+Jim Mulvaney The problem with that is when the Tongues sent him forward in time they did so from the mortal realm and used the Elder Scroll to do it and you can see that Alduin is enveloped in a kind of portal where he stood. When you defeat him in Sovngarde you see his physical form ripped apart and his ethereal form is snatched into the sky. It's more logical to assume that he was taken into Aetherious to be judged by the gods, rather than to have been sent forward in time again.

You forgot to mention that Ulfric hasn't been cooperative since the Markarth Incident, and it is view has dormant. They only try to interfere at Helgan because if the war continues then they will benefit from it. The thalmor don't want a Stormcloak victory has much has they want an Empire victory. If the Stormcloaks win then the thalmor influence in Skyrim is weaken and Skyrim can prepare for war (possibly create an alliance with the Redguards who continue to fight the thalmor after the Empire disavowed them and made them sign the second treaty of Stros M'kai) or if the Empire win then theirs a unified Empire although the thalmor still has free reign to kidnap and imprison whoever they desire such as people that could foiled their plans like Tullis or the Dragonborn. Would the empire give the Dragonborn over to the thalmor if they demanded it? I would think so, they are cowards that only care about keeping their power. You can't truly be free without risking everything in the process. The imperials forget that, they want to play the thalmor's game. When the correct response is to take that game and smash them over the head with it. Long Live Ulfric!! Long Live Skyrim!!

well if someone tried to imprison the dragonborn it would need some serious magic to stop the dragonborn shouting down a wall or something like that and there is ashout to become ethereal so the dragonborn could literally walk out of jail get hit by 1 million arrows and shit like that and be home early for dinner with lydia and if that happened and my theory above happened(execpt the lydia part well maybe i dunno)what do you think the dragonborn would do to the imperials and also you can do some quests for the queen and the quests for the imperials conquering and just become friends with a lot of powerful ppl which could counteract that but also you might look from a different way

@harryunderwood8535 8 лет назад
stephens721 From my faded memory. the Empire wants to keep Skyrim under control in order to rally against the Thalmor. I'm not sure if you know, but the Thalmor are powerful enough that they see the Great War between them and the Empire as The First War, implying that they will wage another one soon. Presumably once the Empire has lost its usefulness. It's because of this that they would want the Stormcloaks to win-a divided nation is an easy one. Honestly though, whichever end is useful to them, as an imperial victory means more free reign over the area.

You said "would the empire give the Dragonborn over to the thalmor if they demanded it?" pffft if they do demanded to have the Dragonborn which can be a powerful asset to the Empire then that is obviously a declaration of the second war. Seriously the Empire is the strongest human faction, you might say that they are weak because they lost the war and proven weak because the Redguards drive the thalmor back, as if the Thalmor would use their full strength over Hammerfell. Also the Redguards does not trust the Nords for invading their country and also the warriors in Skyrim are shadow of its former self. Why? ex-legionnaires nords are nothing but old men and woman, farmers and fishermen as soldiers and soldiers that have not experienced war. "The imperials forget that they want to play the thalmor's game"? I don't understand this one as if losing a war is not normal. Also you said that Skyrim can prepare a new war, *HAH* Then what will Ulfric do when his soldiers were Empire supporters, common people and soldiers that were injured recently?

Okay stop, stop right there at Fact 1, let's clear shit up. The Dossier DOES say a lot about who wants what, but nobody ever reads that thing fully. What it SAYS is that 'OUR AGENTS' contacted Ulfric to set about the Markarth Incident, and later ending all potential direct contact with the Thalmor. Now, who contacted Ulfric in the first place to retake Markarth in exchange for Talos worship? Jarl Igmund of Markarth. And who has Thalmor 'patrolling' right outside the Jarl's chambers? Jarl Igmund of Markarth. It explains why Igmund so quickly threw Ulfric and his men in jail after promising things and just being like 'well golly gee no one could have seen this happening'. The Thalmor in Markarth aren't there for intimidation, they're his protection. Meanwhile, the dossier also wants Ulfric to wage a war but never truly win or lose, leaving a long-term drain on resources for all sides in a potential later Great War. The biggest resource is men, as the Dominion is strapped for soldiers in the wake of the Great War, hence why their powerhungry goals don't have them just keep fighting. If you side with the Stormcloaks and clean the field, you only partly give the Thalmor what they want, which is dead soldiers. The only wrong option is letting the Civil War continue, the best option is to go truce and then never leave Sovngarde, since the truce ends when you leave.

The Dragonborn is destined to follow the same path of Tiber Septim, WHICH IS THE IMPERIAL LEGION and kicking some Thalmor ass! Don't you think that the Stormcloaks being "heroes of freedom" is too clitchè for a dark fantasy like Elder Scrolls?? Why you never question the real truth behind all that, Ulfric is a fucking Thalmor spy (probably even an high rank officer of the Aldmeri Dominion army under cover) and the Stormcloaks are basically poor peasants who are fighting for nothing. Do you really think that the Imperial soldiers and generals don't believe in Talos anymore, well I'll tell you something new THEY ALL BELIEVE IN THE MIGHTY TALOS and if you pay attention Tullius says that he doesn't approve this fake peace with the Dominion and Rikke basically says the same thing and by speaking with her you can understand that she believe in Talos. They simply can't admit yet this because they were preparing for a big counterattack against the Aldmeri Dominion but the Stormcloacks ruined everything! But the fate will be kind to the Legions of Tamriel and the Dragonborn will lead them to victory like Talos did. Join the Legion guys if you really want to fight for the glory of Tiber Septim and for the glory of his Empire

I'm rather proud of myself that I knew all of these. Though I will say that I have a fourth theory regarding Ulfric relatively similar to your second theory. I believe that, through magic, the Thalmor are able to subtly influence Ulfric's actions (likely through a situation close to post-hypnotic suggestion, where certain triggers can be used to drive Ulfric into certain choices). The same document also heavily implies that the Thalmor used Ulfric to orchestrate the Markarth incident, though that he fell out of their direct influence afterwards. My suspicion is that the Thalmor sent messages to Ulfric that contained triggers, and that after the Markarth incident, he refused to read any messages that the Thalmor sent. It also offers explanation as to how exactly Ulfric managed to escape from Helgen, even though it was still effectively walled and filled with Imperial troops: the Thalmor helped him.

Cool video! I love the hidden depth of Skyrim's story and its subtle complexities, and it's always cool to see other people nerding out over the lore. As to Ulfric's secret, the second theory really has nothing to back it up (though magic was probably a factor in his interrogation) and the first theory is far too forgiving; I think the third option is the most heavily implied by the lore, though with some BIG caveats. The dossier clearly states that they 'made contact' with Ulfric, which resulted in him 'proving his worth' at the Markarth incident, only AFTER which he 'broke off contact', and they from then on considered him more unruly, even potentially dangerous, but still an asset. What happened here is pretty clear once you get the lore on the Markarth Incident itself, best described by NPC's kicking around Markarth and a few in Solitude/elsewhere, and why it's so important to the Thalmor. After his torture and 'escape', Ulfric became- as the Thalmor anticipated- Jarl of WIndhelm. The Thalmor then approached Ulfric in secret, and- though magic could be a factor- more likely simply blackmail him, threatening to expose him as traitor and coward, which they've convinced him through torture is the truth. Seeing an opportunity in the wild Breton's takeover of Markarth and the as yet unanswered call for help, they put Ulfric up to the fabled 'Markarth incident', in which he retook Markath for Skyrim earning him Hero-status, and in the same breath- this being the crucial bit for the Thalmor and almost certainly done at their behest- declared Talos worship must be allowed. Prior to this incident, as confirmed talking to several NPCs, the Talos ban was only on paper, there was no one to enforce it, and people could do what they wished. The Thalmor used the Markarth incident to pressure the Empire- this being a serious violation of their peace treaty the White-Gold Concordat- to actually start policing and enforcing the treaty in Skyrim. This led to more dissent, which led to more enforcement, until full-on civil war erupted. Nothing could be better for the Thalmor, as Skyrim is the traditional strong back-bone of the Empire, and pitting them against each-other weakens both, while they continue to gather strength. Ulfric did all this with reluctance however, and though he has indeed both broken and lost faith with the Empire, he absolutely despises the Thalmor, particularly Elenwen, the First Emissary of the Thalmor to Skyrim and Ulfric's old interrogator. As the Thalmor state in their dossier, they worry about Ulfric actually winning the civil war, which suggests they're not at all certain they can control him in that event. It's my belief that while Ulfric began the Stormcloak rebellion as a reluctant pawn, he has every intention of fighting the Thalmor in earnest given the opportunity. As the Dragonborn is the closest thing to a legitimate heir to the Empire remaining, Ulfric and the Dragonborn have a fair chance of uniting the Empire and defeating the Thalmor in the aftermath of the civil war, making Ulfric not necessarily the 'wrong/bad' choice. That's my personal take on it, considering all the lore- both written and spoken- on the subject.

Fun fact about when you mentioned remnants of past kalpas: Dreugh are supposedly from the last kalpa, ruling the world with Molag Bal as their chief. Mehrunes Dagon, supposedly, is too. In previous kalpas, Dagon was known as the Leaper Demon King, and he and the other Leaper Demons would hide parts of Nirn so that Alduin couldn't eat them. Alduin caught wind of this, and turned the King into the Daedric Prince of destruction, so that Dagon would destroy every part of Nirn that he hid in other kalpas.

Well ulfric is kinda of a nice guy...when he is not being a dick. The thing about skyrim war is that neither sides are total right or winning anything, the only one that is winning are the thalmors.

I'm always an Imperial. Not because I really care which side I'm on, they're both pretty much the same, but because I don't like Ulfric's voice actor. He always sounds like he's about to throw up...

GaMer PrOvince how is ulfric a dick? Everything he does is for his country. He's tired of people being killed for worshipping talos, innocent people having their heads chopped all because of worshipping someone.
@RageMagikarp
@RageMagikarp 7 лет назад
Well they wouldn't be getting killed if it weren't for the Markarth Incident. If he hadn't been agitating, the Empire would have had no reason to let the Thalmor into Skyrim. As Alvor said, back before that everybody had their shrine and nobody cared. The empire only really started to care about it when Ulfric brought attention to it and forced their hand to keep peace with the Thalmor. It's his fault the Thalmor are even in Skyrim.

It's part of the beauty of this lore; the inconsistencies in it are not a bug, but a feature. They are explained by the nature of causality and the flow of time in-universe, which _is_ chaotic and defies common logic. Several futures _and_ pasts coexist in the mind of a mad super-god. When faced with an inconsistency, the guys at Bethesda don't correct it; they find a way to justify it, which in turn gives the franchise a very distinctive flavor.

Ysgramornorris a better way to say that would be, "as it is not set in stone one can draw there own conclusions and build there own law with help of the basic outlines" I do this lots during different play throughs haha

Well, there's actually an interesting theory that Akavir IS the next kalpa. That's based off the idea that time changes as you move across Nirn, and a lot of loremasters will tell you that Akavir is the "future" (confusing, I know xD). So if the next game takes place in Akavir, then, well, that could very well be a game in the next kalpa!

While I am late to this topic, also look at five songs of king Wulfarth. It talks about a battle between Shor and Alduin in Sovngarde, but in this situation, iirc, Wulfarth used a Thuum to summon Shor's Spirit. Something related to men of Skyrim turned into children by Alduin. Also, some articles by MK (Seven Fights of Aldudagga) also seem to show that Alduin might be the reason for the birth of Dagon. Although the narrative style made me question the seriousness.

Your lore videos are totally solid. Obviously, there's a lot of room to disagree with one interpretation or another, but I'm always thrilled to watch your lore videos because no one in my circles ever talks about it; most TES players I know have next to no knowledge of the background lore, especially the mythology. Keep the lore vids coming!

This is really interesting. It seems like the proper iteration of Alduin is essentially the same as that of the Reapers from Mass Effect. Granted, the Reapers were also there to prevent the war between synthetics and organics but who knows, those forsworn briarhearts could just be the beginning of technologically (magically) enhanced beings...

Great video, I don't remember exactly and I can't find any mention of it online but I remember hearing in the Hall of Valor that if Shor were present it would destroy the dragonborn who is mortal and thus can't be in the presence of a complete god. Just a thought but the other theories seem likely as well.

About Alduin. Miraak (Dragonborn DLC) brags that he could have killed the world-eater himself if he really wanted to, and isn't at all afraid of the Last Dragonborn so it might be true. So there's the possibility that every time Alduin attempts to eat the world he has a nemesis; someone who has to stop him to prove that the current "kalpa" is still not done. Ulfric Stormcloak is almost definitely not willingly working with the Thalmor since Elenwen's journal cautions against approaching him directly. But there's another interesting fact. Sithis, or the Night Mother at least, awoke when there was an active contract on the Emperor. Such an assassination, especially since we have the option to kill the client and worsen the anarchy, would aid the Thalmor greatly, so I wonder if someone Daedric is behind the Thalmor

Alduin = Satakal in the redguard lore. The timeline in the elder scrolls lore is also similar to the real mith about the Ouroboros. TES lore is undoubtly fascinating, and one of the most elaborated ones since Dungeons&Dragons or Tolkien universe. Awesome.

well alduin may return, and i noticed this, so i made my character a vampire for the specific reason of being around if and when he does return, to kill him again, or in the time between the end of the main quest and his possible return find a way to imprison him, possibly in a pocket dimension. in short, the lore I made up for my argonian (named dragonblood) was that he knew alduin could return, so he made himself immortal so that he could be around to stop alduin as many times as needed.

I want TESVI to be a continuation Of Skyrim in which you start and the game asks our previous accomplishments, including our major choices that we previously chose in TESV like, did you join the dark brotherhood? Or did you destroy them? , Did you join the thieves guild?, Did you choose stormcloaks over the empire? Are you the harbinger of the companions? Did you sell your soul to a Daedric Lord? And something like that. And based on our answers, the game will mold an entirely different storyline, quests, interactions and more. If TESVI will be like that, I bet my soul that TESVI will become the game of the year for another 10 damn years!
