I really like this idea. Not just because its creative but it also fits super well within skyrim's lore and its representation of how the Divines interact with the world at times

Additionally, if you kill Saadia after she has been paralyzed by the Redguard, he will get upset and ask why you would kill her after they had finally captured her. If he was going to kill her later, why would he tell you off so harshly? Don't be tricked by a pretty face, indeed!

WhiteHerring yeah I was gonna say the same thing. Every time I do that quest I kill her just for giggles and the guy gets mad at me and tells me that I pretty much did it all for nothing or something and that she had to face justice lol he also doesn’t attack you after you do it.

I think you're both wrong. The most simple theory is that to Alduin the time between being sent out of the world and returning to it is nearly instant. He's confused, and since Helgen is the closest major population center and there's a commotion it draws him in.

I've seen the intro A LOT and I remember the "It's in the clouds!" line being used right before he lands on the tower, and I'm assuming they asked the sentries to clarify if a creature from over 300 years ago had indeed returned to Skyrim

There's also the fact that Kematu gets mad at the player if you kill Saadia after he paralyzes her. He says something like "why go through all that effort for you to just kill her?" It doesn't make sense for him to kill her on the trip to Hammerfell when 1. He paralyzes her instead of easily killing her right away, and 2. He gets mad at the Dragonborn for killing her.

@@rebeccaj2454 Now that's a curious idea. It hadn't really occurred to me before but we have literally no prior connections or family history in the game. It would lend credit to the idea of Shor manifesting a physical form that without really knowing why was compelled to return to skyrim. Without any documents or identity they couldn't really pass through a boarder check and that's what leads them to being caught crossing into skyrim illegally.

yea, for Alduin, no time has passed at all, for one second he is fighting an epic battle with dragons all around him, and the next he is surrounded by nobody and just attacks the first thing he sees out of pure rage and confusion

Yup. Pretty much. This is further backed by the fact that Alduin doesn't attack another village. He has too much pride in being the First Born, the Strongest and a ruler. There's also the consideration of not just that he was launched through time, but HOW he was. They'd just hit him with Dragonrend. Remember how old Paarthy described it? It makes dragons, fearless, immortal beings they glide through the air and rule the land from the skies, feel great fear and mortality. They then come crashing down. The dragons can't even comprehend the meaning behind such foul words to use the shout, or even repeat them. This love of flying is further pushed with Durnheviir giving his everything to the Dragonborn just to be able to fly for brief moments. So for Alduin to be hit with that, and already in a rampage, as he started to fight more feral, yeah, he just emerged and attacked the first thing he saw. End of story. I never even considered that a mystery.

Maybe it wasn't an answer by Akatosh, but his disgruntled son deciding to give the old man one more "fuck you" by killing one of his followers. Akatosh IS the god of time; he may have manipulated things so that the Dragonborn would be there to set them on the quest of killing Alduin, or put Lokir there to break the Dragonborn out by inadvertently summoning Alduin.

That’s what I thought. I feel as though he realized that if a Dragonborn is alive and in Tamriel, he cannot fulfill his ‘world eater’ status. I believe all the dragons can sense the Dragonborn, considering the player has dragon blood. He probably knew, and either decided to attack based on that (before the Dragonborn knows who they are and knows no shouts, being an easy target), or to gain more power as Helgen is one of the closest towns near the Throat of the World.

Actually their are a few times they pull a shifty thing in open ended lore They originally wanted to bring back an emperor who went to akavri where he found a bunch of dragons but didn’t want to ruin the mystery of the akaviri place And this emperor was said to have died but everyone who said he was dead emphasize that they are senile and from an opaque view

In-game lore actually list the Alik'r being enemies of the Aldermi Dominion, so Saadia was considered the lair.

Isn't there one Dominion controlled city holding out in Hamnerfell? Of course it still makes little sense that she would come all the way to Skyrim, where Thalmor operate unchallenged by the empire, instead of taking refuge in another city within Hammerfells boarders.

Well,it is said he did sense a Dragon's soul. He just didn't know it was a Dragonborn. He also never realized it was you, otherwise he would have killed you instantly. So yeah, it's all just pure coincidence. It's also good to point out the Helgen attack was literally the very first Dragon attack reported in Skyrim, and right after you report it only then do more dragons begin to attack, signaling Alduin's reconstruction of his former troops.

Guess it would depend on the canon race. My personal theory is that the canon race of your character in each game is the native race of the area. Hero of kvatch: imperial dragonborn: nord and so on.

The prophecy states that when brother fights brother Alduin, the world eater, will feed off the souls of the dead and become powerful enough to destroy the world and create anew. Or something like that. So ulfric dieing would mean an end to the war and a steady flow of souls to feast on

Theres a flaw in this theory. I believe Alduin could sense you was Dragonborn before you knew...and he wanted to toy with you, cause certain parts escaping Helgan where Alduin was, he would directly look at the MC if you was near him, I.E the burning house etc. That and if you listen closely when he shouts..you can hear him say " Dovahkiin."

The Nerevarine is not immortal he just has eternal life and immunity to diseases thus he still can be killed by other means.

The Hero of Daggerfall was born 3E375, the Eternal Champion (Arena's Protagonist) was born 3E370 and lived at least until 3E399 when he defeated Jagar Tharn. So the Hero of Daggerfall cannot be an incarnation of the Eternal Champion. That is not possible, simple as that. The Champion of Cyrodiil can't be the reincarnation of the Nerevarine either, because Oblivion takes place 3E433, which is 6 years after Morrowind. And since our protagonist in Oblivion isn't a 6 year old, but a grown up man or woman, he cannot be the incarnation of the Nerevarine. It is, again, not possible.

All dragons can realize a Dragonborn is around. They have the same “blood” so to speak. Energy, whatever it is you wanna call it. Mirmulnir isn’t calling out “Dovahkiin?! No!” because he was surprised by there being a Dragonborn, but because the Dragonborn would devour his soul and he would never exist anywhere again.

T'up North I always assumed it was to save the dragonborns life. He never really fought the prophesy, he's a god. He respects the flow of time, he sees it as it is. He knows what must be, must be. He wouldn't let a lowly axe wielding nord rob him of his epic battle.

When he attacked Helgen Alduin had just "arrived" in the present after being sent to the future by the ancient heroes with the Elder Scroll, so there's no way he knew of the civil war taking place in Skyrim

I assumed it was all a coincidence, I mean dragons enjoy attacking settlements regardless of who's in them, I also assume that the Dragonborn was only revealed once they had slain their first dragon

I don't know if it is ever stated how long ago Alduin had returned to Mundas/the present before the events of skyrim dragons are immortal and have never shown a lack of patience (one of them spent four eras in black reach) so it's fair to assume he read the evening news and did some planning before beginning the second dragon war and if you remember he frequently visits soviegn guard where he is bound to have met some loud mouthed nord complaining he was a casualty of the civil war maybe even the imperial ambush

But you don't even know you're the dragonborn yet... and there's no evidence he does either until he actually talks to you way later in the game. Your theory is full of holes

I think Akatosh wanted Alduin to ‘save’ the Dragonborn for a more interesting battle. It would be more dramatic if the Dragonborn and the world eater battled it out in Sovngarde rather than the Dragonborn dying in an execution for illegally crossing the border.

+Kristin Stobaugh Exactly. To all things there should be some rules, and Alduin is more just a demigod than a full one. If he were to just destroy the Dragonborn at Helgen, it would take away the fun of all the high Daedra and the gods. If anything it becomes more a test to see if the Dragonborn is worth fighting, as Alduin doesn't ever directly attack them, but all those around them, but still presents such chaos and destruction that anyone less than a hero would have perished. Many did perish, and I think I remember Tulius stating he got out by the skin of his teeth. What's great is this doesn't even discount the theory about the Dragonborn being Shor. Shor would have had his own rules as well. Having the powers of a Dragonborn, but no memories of before while he held a mortal form. Kinda like a wizard sent from the West to aid Middle Earth in its time of need. Able to use only enough power to aid, but never to use it to match the greater evil. Although in Skyrim's case, the plan was to grow in power in order to match the greater evil.
