Skyrim Anniversary Edition: How to Make a Legendary Battlemage!
In this video I will show you how to make a Battlemage, capable of playing the game on LEGENDARY difficulty! This is part 1 of what will be a 2 part series on the BRETON, the race I ranked 1st in my Skyrim races RANKED video! I had loads of fun making this and cannot wait to make part 2 for you (which will be on an equally as fun build!)

Thanks! Yeah I wanted to have a go at making my own videos, I've always played Skyrim but I wasn't sure if it would be a good choice due to its age. Then I saw videos that were posted in the last year with millions of views and I was like yeah okay this is still popular lol

@@metalsnake27 Yeah as far as I'm aware in my level 252 video, the only non-SE friendly skills I show are alchemy and destruction. However the former is only non-friendly because of Myrwatch. The exact same method can be used at a Hearthfire house, it works the same way. Destruction is because the unbounded storms spell and the spell tome chest won't exist. To level destruction in Skyrim SE, the fastest way I know of is to start the dark brotherhood quest and complete up until you get Shadowmere, then equip a set of 100% destruction magicka cost reduction gear and just spam spells at him, I used Incinerate I think when I did this on my PS4 a few years back. Just remember to heal him so he doesn't die. Its unfortunately a lot slower, maybe a few hours to do, but it definitely works

Never really completed a single playthrough and i just finished with the battlemage build using this video and I love it. I haven't even started any quest yet. Great video and now the build is complete time to start my adventure in the world of skyrim.

Battlemage is one of the VERY few builds that imperials would be among the best races. That Breton Magic resist and racial power is just so much better though

Thanks! Yeah I think a lot of players do, archery and stealth are very OP. I plan to do a few more build guides but I was going to avoid the stealth archer as its so popular, unless there ends up being appetite for it 😁👍

Nice, the 2nd part of this Breton series will be on a conjuration build which is the next one I'm going to work on. I am going to focus it on the undead though rather than dremora/atronachs, but the principle build will be the same if you wanted to flex it to suit a different style (I'll get the twin soul perks etc)

Gonna try this in my skyrim playthrough. Probably wont grind during the whole video recording process though, because that will take forever. There will be some parts i have to skip. Great video! Why you don’t have a million subs is beyond me! You have earned those million subs!

Currently work full time alongside a family and 2 young children so I'm limited to evenings to do this as my side project, but that is the dream to be able to quit and do this full time 🤩. Haha thank you I appreciate the help 😁. I think this was the first one I ever pulled together for RU-vid. I go back to this one from time to time to have a play around with. Hopefully one day I can make videos full time. At the moment I have to juggle it around work and other commitments. Like now for example, I've just finished filming episode 17 of the let's play, but it's nearly midnight here now and I have work tomorrow, so I'll have to edit it and upload it after work 🤣

What I often do to level smithing is clear Kolskegger mine in markarth, and then duplicate the gold ingots to craft an obscene amount of gold rings.

@@edwardfrancis8603 first you need 40 alchemy and 40 enchanting Then you need to get a helmet,gauntlet,ring and necklace Then get a fortify alchemy enchantment from dawnstar or anywhere Then get 20 yellow mountain flower and 20 salt to craft a fortify restoration potion Then enchant the helmet,gauntlet,ring and necklace with fortify alchemy Now when you craft a fortify restoration potion, unequip the fortify alchemy gear, drink the potion, equip your qear back and repeat this process until you get a potion which gives you a negative effect cause that will crash your game

Thanks a lot! So it was 320 magicka, 330 health and 100 stamina when the video was completed. Lots of room to go higher though with this one, I'd focus on pushing health high and then stamina probably to 200+

To be honest deciding now I wanted to get into youtubing when I work full time and have a family and 2 small children probably wasn't the best timing lol, but I'm going to try and make it work, if this takes off I can quit and do this full time and it'll free me up more to help with childcare as I can work around it rather than being rigid 9-5 😁that's the dream anyway!

If you have the anniversary edition of skyrim they can be bought from shopkeepers or crafted at a blacksmith using leather

Ah no problem, so Arcane Blacksmith allows you to improve magical armor and weapons, which is needed as all the gear has enchantments on. Err I don't think they can be redistributed, no. However this build is still a fairly low level and has lots of opportunity to grow it further. So you could take conjuration all the way to 100 for example using the same method (the twin souls perk is a great perk as you could have two atronachs with this). You could also try and level heavy armor and one handed up as well etc. That way any new perk points you get you can put elsewhere 😁

@@mike-thegamingdad ahhh ok thanks! So i would Upgrade all the gear before enchanting it, do i still need Arcane Blacksmith than? Or can i Upgrade it again after enchantement? Also i play on the switch so there's a bug where cpt. Veleth never leaves the City and therfore you cannot do the quest, is there another way to get the weapon with that enchantement? Thanks!!

@Nicolas Oberlik the blacksmith perks also mean you can upgrade gear to a higher standard, so it'll get to legendary grade with any blacksmith perk but without them I think it caps at flawless. I mean you could try it without, this is just the way I've always done it 😁. I'm not too sure regarding that glitch, I've never played on switch, that is annoying though, can you go to the Fort frostmoth and pick up the weapon without starting the quest?

@@Leto85 Just to mix things up really, there are the 'optimum' ways of doing certain skills and Goldenhills is the fastest for alchemy but I didn't want every build guide to be the exact same otherwise it'll feel like I'm just recycling the same thing over and over again, so I tried to insert some level of roleplaying into the characters so each felt a little different (Bruce the Battlemage builds his own house to do alchemy and uses dwarven metal to smith, my assassin build uses Goldenhills for alchemy as its in the middle of nowehere and smiths gold rings, my Night King build uses Myrwatch in Morthal etc) 😁

@@mike-thegamingdad I like that approach. Creative. So, who's going to live in the swamps with a fishery and possible Alchemy greenhouse? Your Argonian cook? In my opinion that's a perfect combination for Alchemy and cooking. I think it'll be my first homemade home when I start the fishing quests. Nowadays I only play with Survival Mode on so filling that fishery with all the new fishes is a must. Tip: as Survival Mode forced you to travel, it might become a hastle to travel to your home every now and then to brew potions for selling. Because of that I highly advice to work on the No Stones Unturned quest first. Combine that with the Merchant Perk and your set since those gems weight almost nothing.

@@Leto85 nice thats a great idea, I think I've only used that house once before as the location is a bit out of the way. Definitely going to give that a go though! Yeah I've still not got too far into a survival mode playthrough, but its high on my agenda as it'll force me to use cooking more. I always start with the intention of cooking but it ends up never happening 🤣

Hey man, great guide! Do you remember what perks you put in your skill tree between level 7 and level 11 when you were doing the conjuring on the bandit? I put the perk points in marksman, fighting stance, juggernaut, and alchemy like you said. I also put two perk points into the novice and apprentice conjuration skills, but Im level 13 and still have 4 perk points. Any recommendations of where I should put them? I saw what perks you put for your character in the description box, but I'm not sure if there's a specific order I should put them in or not. Thanks.

Hey glad you like it! There isn't a specific order but the most important skulls for the build that determine the strength of the gear you build are alchemy, enchanting and then smithing. So I would start to fill up the base of those up 😁. Don't worry if you have perks unspent though, you can always save a couple until the point you need to level one of those skills up fully. Hope you enjoy the build when finished! I still load up the save from time to time it's really fun! 😁👍

@@mike-thegamingdad Thanks I appreciate the response! One more question, do you recommend keeping the gems I have (amethyst, ruby, emerald, etc.) or can I sell those? I'm trying to get rid of some excessive weight that I'm carrying. I also just bought my house so I can store them there, but I'm not sure if I should be holding onto them. I also have dragon scales and bones and am not sure if I should be holding onto those? Thank you!

@@kentmarcus1255 yeah no problem, so your gems you can sell for gold that's fine, keep your Dragon scales and bones. But storing them is a good idea as they weigh a lot. Eventually to create the dragon armor gear and weapon at the end you will need quite a lot of dragon scales and bones (I can't remember exactly how much, I think it's around 10-15 of each though) so you'll need to kill a few dragons to accumulate all of the this. I stored mine in one of the chests in the house until I needed them

@@mike-thegamingdad Thanks for your input. I'm currently trying to get the Glass Bow of Banishing and I've probably saved and hit the Fletcher 50 times haha. Do you know if the Glass Bow of Expelling would suffice? It seems to have the same effects except that summoned Daedra up to level 20 (instead of only 12 for the banishing bow) are sent back to Oblivion. Also, are there any guilds you recommend I join as a battlemage? Thanks for all of your help!

@kentmarcus1255 yeah that will work its just the enchantment you need. There's a few different versions of it that do the same thing just at different levels. Once you disenchant it you can then do it yourself. Because you combine magic and other weapons you could join any really and wouldn't feel out of place. The companions in whiterun is a good questline to do. And you get to experience being a werewolf. The dawnguard is also fun and you can either choose to be a vampire hunter or side with the vampires. The dragonborn questline is also good which mostly takes place on the island Solstheim.

It's up to you really, I didn't carry on in this video, but you can keep going. It takes a good few hours to get to 100 but you'll do a lot more damage in the long run 😁👍🏻

Thank you! So to marry Lydia you first need to have spoken to the priest Maramal in Riften. If it's your first time there, he'll be in the Bee & Barb. Otherwise, he's in the Temple of Mara. Ask him about weddings and buy the amulet of Mara Wear this and speak to Lydia. You should have another dialogue option "interested in me, are you?" Go through thar dialogue option Return to the Temple of Mara to request the ceremony and wait for the next day and you'll then get a pop up to say attend your ceremony

Trying to get that Unbounded Storms/Fast Travel level to auto to 100....but it's not working for me. Any specifics you can tell me? Thanks!

If the trick isn't working that's likely because the spell cost isn't quite zero, or the USSEP mod is installed (Unofficial patch), as that patches that 'loophole' You can check your destruction magicka cost by either adding up the cost of each piece of gear (you may have 1 or more that isn't 25% etc), or, you can look at your destruction spell and check the cost. It should say 0, if its any higher than that it won't work. If this is the case it and the gear isn't giving enough of a boost, double check your enchanting skill perks. You'll need 5 in the base of enchanting, plus the ones up the middle. And then when you remake the fortify destruction gear, make sure you use grand or black soul gems. Any smaller gems will likely result in a weaker enchantment 👍🏻

What spell rotation do you use?

In the finished build? Offensive spells it's the lightning based ones plus the storm cloak (that looks really cool on). In conjuration I use the storm atronach. It's very offensive based this one, but there's room to add in some alteration spells should you want some more protection e.g. the flesh spells. You could also go into restoration if you wanted to, there are some great early perks in that tree like respite

Hello, another quick question. Is the ancient tomb chest exclusively on anniversary edition? I’m playing on special edition and cannot find it in the cave.

Hi sorry yeah that was a new addition as part of AE, the pack was called arcane accessories and added all the new spells that you find in the chest. If you were ever interested in buying the upgrade I do think it's worth it, there's a lot of new stuff in it. I am almost done the build and just need to get the last few spells and craft a few potions to complete the build. It’s been a fun journey to this point and cannot wait to take the build for a test ride. Thanks again! 🍻👊

If we want to do dadrick armor is it the same method and as strong as the dragon armor

Yeah it would be the exact same method whichever armor you wanted to use. Daedric armor has a slightly higher armor rating, but weighs more. They are very similar I think not much between them.

Can I ask why when making ring you don’t use gems ? Is that for selling purposes ? It doesn’t make them stronger?

Yeah absolutely! Would just limit your ability to use magic at the same time, but you could use your favourites to cycle through

Why the point in conjuration smithing?

Hey so conjuration benefits this build due to using the storm atronachs. The apprentice conjuration perk I picked up just to make the levelling of conjuration quicker but this can be bypassed if you want its not essential. The Summoner perk means you can summon the atronachs further away. As this build gets stronger if it was me, I'd be filling up the far left of the conjuration tree, all those perks would make your storm atronachs stronger, and Twin Souls means you could have 2 of them The smithing perks are all needed so you can make your dragon armor at the end very strong

Where do I get all the enchantments for the dragon armor ?? Please help - do I have to buy from vendor all the expert versions to disenchant ?

Hi Walles! I usually go to Solitude to buy all my enchantments, the shop Radient Raimant (the one with the 2 high elves) is always a good place to go as they will have items you can buy with all the correct enchantments. If they aren't selling a particular enchantment you need, for example nothing with fortify destruction, do the save game, attack the vendor, load your save game trick. This will reset their inventory and hopefully they will have it for sale 😁👍

Is high elf good for battlemage?

Yeah you could use a high elf for this 😁. You'll just be more susceptible to magic damage as a high elf vs a breton (as high elves don't have the +25% resistance), so I'd recommend getting something like the agent of mara perk (complete the quest at the temple of mara in riften)

@Mandutumuch619 there's a lot of enchantments that you could use that work for this, absorb health is very strong on a weapon, along with chaos (for damage). For your armor pieces, one handed damage, destruction magicka cost reduction, health, magicka, magicka absorption. Anything like that really

Hey it shouldn't be patched without any mods, but if you have USSEP installed (Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch) then it will be as this stops most of the glitches and shortcuts

It usually depends how long through the play through I am and also the type of build it is. Take this one for example, its totally possible to play on Legendary all the time with little hassle. The tough enemies can still cause you a lot of pain, ancient dragons, dragon priests etc can and probably will kill you if you don't bring a stack of healing and a follower to take some flack. But it is legendary difficulty right? Would be silly if you could one shot those lol. For something like a pure mage build though, I usually have to go down to master or expert, I struggle with 0 armour builds, I usually end up forgetting to use the alteration spells and die, or I'll be fighting a bandit camp and get sniped by a long range archer. I'm currently using this Battlemage save though to do a quick video on the No Stone Unturned quest locations. Because I want to get through the dungeons quickly I've dropped to master difficulty and I'm running through one hitting everything with the mace lol

@@mike-thegamingdad I agree. If you dont have the armor cap and atleast 80% magic fire and frost resictance you cant survive on legendary. Legendary is bad for roelplaying bcs it forces you to get a high enchanting and smithing skill otherwise you simply cannot kill most enemies. Only a few builds can do it without crafting such as conjuration summonings and a thief which avoids combat. For these reasons master or expert is in most cases better. Btw Teldryn Sero is OP on legendary as he even on legendary is a really good tank.

@@mike-thegamingdad cool! He can be found in the bar in Raven Rock. His backstory is better than most followers but Serana and Cicero has much better backstories in my opinion. But for combat he is really really good plus he is very very easy to get.

I think it depends how you define the two, its conflicting even across elder scrolls wiki and a few other sites. I've read a few threads as well where everyone's definition is slightly different. For me I've always seen a spellsword to be one handed/light armour/employs some level of stealth. So more like a scout who employs magic. Whereas a battlemage is one handed/heavy armour/no stealth. A stand and deliver build who can soak up more hits than a spellsword could.
