Darren Rogers good luck on your adventures friend I wish you safety on your journeys, I have just beat the game but I “took a arrow in the knee”. Only true gamers will find that phrase funny
If you are new, the collective Skyrim community welcomes you. I hope you enjoy the game and have fun. Games are for everyone young or old man or woman. This is an excellent game with a ton of replay ability, and a helpful community!
@@soranaziz8348 I actually bought elden ring initially thinking it was a new Elder Scrolls, and they’re too different for me to really “either or.” I loved Sekiro so ER is right there.
When you’re just starting out-pick up all the damn Nirnroots you can find and hang on to them, you’ll need 20 of them for ingun black-briars stupid fetch quest when you get to Riften.
Just started Skyrim today... in 2019. Thanks for the tips and looking forward to my adventure. Bought the game as part of the Steam Summer Sale for a couple of bucks. Hope it's worth it. :)
Luskaaa But if he is on xbox and want to use mods than he cant unlock any achievements and playing for the first time vanilla is much much better than already with mods!
Some things that I'd like to add that I personally find really helpful to everybody. - In my opinion the Bretons are the best race for starting mages, they are naturally gifted in mage skills and their Dragon Skin ability lets you absorb 50% of incoming hostile magic, usefull for fighting mages. Orcs make the best race for starting warriors because of their starting skills and their berserk ability and imo Dark Elves make the best race for starting rogues. - In terms of standing stones, the Atronach Stone is really the most usefull in any situation. The 50% spell absorption and can be stacked with the Breton's dragon skin ability or on its own. The 50 extra magika is useful for early game and if you're not a High Elf (fuck the Thalmor) and the debuff for spell regeneration can be easily countered with perks or items. Plus, dragons can't hurt you because their breaths are "hostile magic" ;)) - Don't be a "jack of all trades" character. It will limit you on key perks that you'll miss out on if you don't have enough skill. - Find a trainer! You can find trainers for each of the minor skills that can take you up 5 levels at a time to a set level; Common trainers up to level 50, Expert to level 75 and Master to level 90. The last 10 need to be gained from leveling or skill books. - Don't fight the chicken
Krillin but with hair everyone should read this comment bc the race and standing stone described in this video are not the best. Also I like using the lover stone to speed up my playthroug
I was quite shocked as well to hear just Nord and Altmer. Breton is good no matter what kind of player you are due to that magic reduction. That's a sweet bonus, as mages and dragons can be annoying. And how can you pass up that Orc Berserker mode for boss fights? 2X damage given, 1/2 damage received! I was expecting the person to say to really look at the race-specific traits. Like Khajit are awesome to use with just gloves/claw attacks, and the night eye is pretty useful early on, and for a completely different playstyle. Wood Elf is nice to use early when you don't want to fight those bears and trolls... don't know if the command animal thing works on Mammoths. And so on and so forth.
I killed chicken then I got attacked so I waited until night and took my revenge Plus flameon that weird elf lover guy doesn't got attacked for killing chicken
I suspect there's a more detailed magic video coming soon but for anyone interested in Destruction: *Fire spells* are the best for raw damage, giving a DOT and dealing bonus damage to any target already on fire. *Frost spells* slow and damage stamina, meaning heavy melee enemies will have a hard time catching and hitting you. *Shock spells* also deal damage to an enemy's magicka, crippling other spellcasters. Importantly: apprentice level shock spells (and higher) travel a lot faster than the others or arrows, making them significantly more accurate (especially against dragons). *Finally*, the more expensive destruction magic gets, the less efficient it is for the magicka cost. More advanced spells will offer extra benefits like AOE damage or a persistent damage field. They should only be used if you can get the extra value out of them or if you have enough magicka/cost reduction/magicka potions. Otherwise you'll find yourself running dry before your enemies are dead. Edit: Staggering giant enemies only works if you have the "Augmented X" perk for Frost, Fire or Shock. I was deep into the game before I turned dragons on so I didn't realise.
Don't forget the fact that probably 80% of Skyrim's enemies have massive Frost resistances (nord bandits, draugrs, wisps, ghosts, vampires, dwarven automatons, frost dragons, frost wolves, snow bears, and to a lesser extent Breton forsworns), making the Frost elemental tree worthless in terms of dealing any sorts of damage. It's ironic too considering how Ice Storm probably has the highest raw damage per cast potential of all spells on paper, but not in practice.
too bad destruction is useless compared to the damage output you can have with lvl 100 smithing and enchanting. I'd really like if magic was more balanced because there are some nice looking spells in the game
Gustavo Spohr Well, I ran a very unfocused heavy armour/one handed mage (because I had a lack of mana and a bound sword). I still cheesed the fucking out everything with the dual-casting stagger perk. I struggled for a while, but once I hit a critical mass of magicka and regen there was nothing in the game I couldn't stunlock into dust.
Harvey Chesterfield the stagger perk is really broken imo, but it would be nice if the destruction damage scaled more later in the game. Or maybe it would also be nice if we weren't able to craft stupid strong weapons with wigh smithing and enchanting. I mean, the crafting mechanics are so broken that the unique items we find become risiculously obsolete
I've spent 100s of hours in Skyrim, it's safe to say that it is my favorite game of all time, yet I still don't know all the secrets, haven't explored all the dungeons and haven't experience all the wonders that the province of Skyrim has to offer.
witcher 3 and skyrim are both open world rpgs but they're oretty different. Witcher 3's narrative wouldn't work without Geralt ( a defined cahracter so he obvi has to have voice acting) and its combat would fall apart in 1st person. Skyrim is more focused on exploration and the whole "go anywhere do anything" mantra of bethesda games and it comes at the expense of an inferior story and characters. They are both masterpieces imo but in very different ways.
@@bayfinest1938 nah Witcher 3 is not a rpg in the sense you are playing a pre defined character with no creation or role playing whatsoever the story is pretty good it’s a story based fantasy action game, whereas Skyrim is a fantasy open world rpg, totally different games Skyrim is bigger and honestly more replay value the Witcher has good lore and stories but imo some of them are pretty un original and basically to romantic. Skyrim has deeper lore and is more nuanced as a whole, both are good games but you are objectively false in trying to say one is better than the other it depends in what type of game you are looking for.
the conjured bow has the same base damage as a deadric bow, making it one of the best, and the spell tom ecan be aquired very early in the game. the spell will also give you unlimited deadric arrows. for you new players, you should look into that.
Just to let people know, by completing the barrow first before going to Whiterun, you are actually skipping a scene that only occurs if you seen the Jarl before going to barrow. I actually recommend that you go out of your way to experience that scene in at least one playthrough.
I think the point he is trying to make is, if you don't want to be "dragonborn" and use shouts, have dragons appear in the world, etc. Then don't do the main quest line
Love these Strife guides (and playthroughs) for Bethesda games. Nobody does it better. Your voice is right for it, the information is clear and concise, and the production value of the video is sky high.
Just (finally) bought skyrim on sale and will be coming back to this. I only ever made it through the Fallout games by guides like this giving me an edge. open worlds can be overwhelming!
I'm new to the game, played for about 3 hours now, I came to YT to seek a beginner's guide, then I find this video and the start of it shows basically all that I have done by now 😅
Mine arrives from Amazon today, for the PS4...I have like, three open-world incomplete games now...Witcher 3, HZD and this...I think I'll start today or tomorrow...
Actually that is the enhanced crossbow, the standard one have no armour piercing, but all crossbows have a hidden 50% stagger chance. Oh and it would probably have been great to inform people that there are lots of bolts around Fort Downguard and they replenish with regular intervals, or you can just collect them from the people who practice around the fort. If you are not planing on joining the Dawnguard, or until you have progressed far enough to craft and buy them.
I started playing 2 days ago and am about 10 hours in and I’m already obsessed. I’ve never been huge into Action adventure role playing games but I obviously had to give THE action adventure role playing game a chance and god I’m glad I am. The dungeons are fun, the difficulty is somewhat challenging but still a blast, I feel accomplished when complete quests as opposed to feeling like I finished a chore, and I’m only just now going to the greybeards but it seems like the main story is really cool too
I chose Khajiit to start with. The claws do 15 damage, and it’s quick, so weapons aren’t too big of a deal. Gloves of the pugilist add 10 unarmed damage, which you find under Riften. Also, Khajiit have added Pickpocket and Sneak.
Another helpful hint that I found is that there are two bolts you can use with the Dawnguard Crossbow. The first one is the original bolt that comes with the crossbow which can be found in Fort Dawnguard or by forging it within the castle. The other bolt is the Dwarven Bolt which can be found in most Dwarven ruins when you encounter the Dwarven Spheres.
I usually recommend sticking to the main quest, because it takes you through a wide variety of experiences and locations, but it won't be a problem if you stray to do side quests. The main quest is also a good story. Skyrim and Oblivion might require some extra patience since the cooperation mechanics might be slow or confusing; if confused, try re-reading the quest log or a related book or note, and follow the compass arrow. And, don't forget to listen to the hilarious dialog from all the characters around you. Let me know if you have a new Skyrim LP going on youtube, I might check it out; I like watching others play Skyrim and Oblivion in their own, different way.
I think that the Breton is also a good choice due to the 25% magic resist.. combined with the Atranoch stone,, adds a 50% magic absorbtion, that's pretty good..IMO
I'm just starting the game as of yesterday and already have 5 hours in! Idk how I've never played it but I'm new to RPGS so that's why. I first played Witcher 3 and got hooked on the fantasy role playing. I already feel hooked! Great vid thanks!
William, this are the kinds of video I subscribed to you in first place. Not to discourage you from playthroughs and letsplays (they are fun), but this is broadcasting quality stuff :D
And yet the Skyrim video I released 2 weeks ago has only gotten 30k views. That's not enough to feed me, and these types of videos are not easy to make. I'm beginning to think it's time to pack up and quit making videos, because the numbers for me to live on are getting close to not adding up.
William Strife I know Will, I know It kinda makes me sad that videos like yours (and other quality, thought to produce content) get almost no views, while all this fabricated RU-vid drama shit is getting the attention of masses. I completely understand your lack of will to do these, and I guess most of your viewers will understand if you quit. We will be grateful for the content you provided thus far :) and sorry because it didn't work out :/
Edniel Lee That doesn't make one a sellout... Sellout would be if someone compromised their integrity and abandoned their original content in favor of advertisements. Keep seeing people calling RU-vidrs like Linus(TechTips) a sellout because he has sponsored ads and content? Basically, we get a ton of entertainment for free, maybe stop being such a self centered crybabies, it really doesn't help creators a lot.
The ingots can easily be stolen late at night since guards aren't present until after speaking with Balgruuf. But aside from that, Hadvar indeed has much greater free resources in early-game, albeit siding with Ralof is the only way to get any free early Heavy Armor unless you get lucky with bandits at Embershard Mine or the camp with the first treasure map.
This game has been out for years and I have incredible respect for the veterans who’ve stuck with it all this time. I decided it was long overdue that I buy a copy, and I’m already enjoying myself immensely. I have a feeling I will miss playing this game for the first time in the future so I’m trying to treasure these moments of blissful ignorance being new to the game.
here are 3 more tips, 1st: there is a way to get 2 enchants on a single weapon basically at lvl 1, its called the steel battle-ax of fiery souls and to get it, you need go just north of the night gate in, near the pale, and you come across a path and at the end of it are 2 people, an argonian mage, and I believe a regard warrior who are bickering, these 2 people will help you on your fight to get to the axe, so you make your way to this arena and see a throne, with the axe at the back of it, and a word wall, (WARNING) there is a dragon priest fight so bring a companion and have a conjuration spell handy, this axe is a normal steel battle-ax with an enchantment that deals 10 burn damage and fills a soul gem, if the target dies within 5 seconds, the best thing you can do is disenchant it to get the fiery soul trap enchant to put on your current weapon, 2: the kolskeg mine also is a gold mine with exactly 48 gold ore in it, so bring a pickaxe, (WARNING) forsworn brier heart inside, 3: just outside of riftan on the path to a bandit. camp, there are the riftan watch towers, (WARNING).......JK, there is no risk in this task, at the top of each watchtower there is a chest marked (confiscated goods) with an adept lock, so you pic it and you find, 300 gold gold ingots gold jewelry silver jewelry leather iron ebony the list goes on and on, so there are 3 watchtowers so 3 adept level locks with master loot, have a good day
Brenda DeZeeuw -- Not at level 1 sadly, but yes I have. I've done them individually with previous character builds, but after reading your thread, I went in-game and did them all in the order you stated. Can you believe I had already got the word, but because I saw it was 'just' a steel axe, I didn't pay it the first bit of attention!? Didn't I feel like quite the dummy!
Scimitars are the best weapon for a long time if you improve your smithing. And there's an even easier one to grab under a capsized small boat on the north coast between solitude and Dawnstar.
well, as a beginner you get killed a thousand times while trying to get to the steed stone. so it's nice to know, but not really useful for a total beginner.
I saw that my roommate has an Xbox 360 and Skyrim. After all these years I’m finally gonna do it. Just made my high elf and made my way to bleak falls barrow. Wish me luck
Also a REALLY good way to hyper level smithing (aka the replacement method for the patched iron dagger smithing exploit) is to go to dwarven ruins and ONLY grab dwarven: plate metals, large plate metals, and bent scrap metals since they provide the most metal-per-weight ratio for smelting. Then once you get the usual 200+ ingots from smelting them all, buy iron ingots from the nearest smith and forge Dwarven Bows, watching that sweet Blacksmithing level rise like crazy. Can be even further sped up with Well Rested+Lover Stone.
joshua kim you can add the warrior stone with the aetherial crown for and extra 15% experience, and the ancient knowledge perk for a little bit on top.
+joshua kim or have your follower pick up some of the heavier dwarven metals, or all of them, you can even use those metals to level up smithing while making loads of bolts, provided you have enough firewood, that is.
If you want arrows, just go out to the guards' training yard while they're training with the bow. They'll all fire a few hundred arrows between them every day. Just nab the arrows once they have 10-15 of them in the target. They won't be stolen or anything, so no danger or trouble, and no one minds you taking them.
Stray Dog-- Even better than that is to reverse pickpocket the guard and place ONE of your highest damage arrows in his inventory. He will soon after start firing those arrows and then you will have an almost infinite source of high damage value arrows. Trick also works at fart danwguard. There you would place whichever exploding bolt you prefer in their inventory and that's what you'll soon be recovering. Personally, I prefer the shock bolts for the combination of damage they do
Starting my first playthrough ever in 2023, 12 years after the launch. I have no clue about anything, but I’ve been having a lot more fun in this game than pretty much any other I’ve played in a while.
Svetlana Rodriguez That chest isn't suppose to be available for the player, it's the inventory of an nearby merchant. Taking stuff from the chest is pretty much cheating. It's the same as spawning in items.
Svetlana Rodriguez don't forget the one outside markarth, the one inside whiterun (you will need to use the platter glitch to get to that one), and the one outside of solitude.
A MUCH easier way to get a scemitar at lvl 1 is to simply take the carriage at whiterun to dawnstar and heading to an unmarked flipped little boat on the coast west of dawnstar. Just look for the bandit camp and youll be near the right place. There are always 3 of them.
My advise to any new player. I am a 5 year Skyrim player and i highly recommend using the Nord for your first play through because most of the dragons in the entire game are frost dragons including the big bad boss dragon. I won't give out any spoilers but just know Skyrim is a map that is nothing but cold and frost is located at many spots in the map. Even frost enchantments on enemy weapons. I highly recommend using Physical armor because it usually has a higher resistance for the durability which in real life would mean it should be able to withstand enchantments better then most people think. That is all i have to type to y'all. Also look up speech glitch to easily max out your speech and gain a fair amount of exp points.
I never comment on videos but I just had to say your video layout is absolutely supreme I have never seen a RU-vidr put such a nice transition that's very informational like you
Kenpokid4 No offense but that game is very old, you don't see anyone making video guides for the first Zelda game nowadays? Only hardcore tes fans will watch that which is a minority
I agree with you but sometimes its good to focus a video on a minority as well as just to get many views you could get loyal followers rather than just people that watch this video because it was suggested but i do think your right
1:23 - I disagree with Nord. Orc has arguably the best racial active in the late game, even for mage bulds. The 50% frost resist is generally worse than the Breton's 25% magic resistance, who also has dragonskin which is extremely powerful in the late game as well. If you choose to play the nercromage vampire with 3/3 Atronach + Atronach Stone, Nord's (as well as Breton's) passive is completely redundant, making Orc and High Elf the best choice. So overall, from a functionality perspective, Breton is the best race if you are not stacking magic absorption. Otherwise, High Elf is the best race for magic builds and Orc is the best for warrior/thief characters.
I’m 50 hours into the game. I made a huge mistake in my first save and now I am looking for resolution, maybe some way I can make up for the pain I have inadvertently caused myself, and fix my mistake. This is only the third Skyrim video I have ever seen and I know so much more about the game than I ever knew before. Thanks for the tips. I love this game I’m just so bad, I’m such a noob. Why didn’t I do this from the start what was I thinking.
