Scott Entrekin, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, gave a very interesting and informative presentation on weather phenomenon for weather spotters.

This class will enable you to be a certified SKYWARN weather spotter for the National Weather Service covering Northern Colorado. We will give you basic thunderstorm structure and what to look for to identify clouds that may lead to severe or tornadic storms. We will also address safety issues with severe weather along with protocol for reporting severe weather to our office
In most years, thunderstorms, tornadoes and lightning cause hundreds of injuries and deaths and billions in property and crop damages. To obtain critical weather information, the National Weather Service (NWS) established SKYWARN® with partner organizations. SKYWARN® is a volunteer program with between 350,000 and 400,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.
