for me both apps complement very well... we use both: slack for conversations, brainstorming and general coordination... and then we jump to asana to create to do lists.... we are a small team :)

Comparing Slack to Asana is as useful as comparing Skype to Microsoft Project! ;-)

Absolutely agree. Or like trying to use Notepad for pure Project Management!

I know this is almost a year old, but very helpful to me, thanks! I've used Asana and Slack and see the pros and cons of both but converted to slack maybe 2 years ago, exclusively. Slack keeps evolving and, since you posted this, has added a lot of what you said was its negative points. I haven't tried it yet, but they recently released threaded comments. The one thing I miss about asana and still think it is better for is that project organization. Though, with the right channel management and threaded conversations, as well as integration, it's possible to do it all in Slack. Thanks again for the video!

Thanks for this review! We just started using Slack in the office and are having a good go at it.

I don't understand this comparison. If Slack has no ability to manage projects, how is it even comparable to Slack? The real question on my mind is, does Slack integrate with Asana?

Obviously she meant, how is Slack comparable to Asana. Use your brain.

Wunderlist allows for shared lists and it integrates with O365, plus it integrates with Outlook for Mac and PC.

+Scott Pleasants I love Wunderlist. By far my favorite task management app yet.

about tasks management, slack has a trello integration and bots can extend a lot the features, ifttt also can improve features and communication with other apps.

Since Asana is down once again I have time to vent about it here: 1) Asana price increases are coming soon Sept 5th: 5 & 10 seat Premium $6.99 => $8.59 15+ seat Premium $10.99 => $13.49 2) Also, it's going down all the time lately, Google "Asana status page"

Bridge24 now integrates with Asana if you need charts and reports for your projects.

If you have 15 employees and you can't afford less than $10 per MONTH to ensure your business runs efficiently then you're either nowhere near having that many employees, your business is massively flawed or by employees you mean freelancers you work with occasionally (for those asana has a "guest" status - unlimited members at no cost). Other than that, I agree with what most commenters said here, the comparison is a bit pointless. I watched it thinking slack might have some hidden "asana-like" features I was unaware of.

Notifcation: Slack has both mobile/desktop notifications Threads: Slack has threads Post: Slack has a dedicated doc system built-in, allows for coding Integration: pretty large integration directory

Asana can be integrated into Slack. Furthermore, if you only want tasklists, Slack gives the opportunity to add Task both. That works just fine.

We use Slack for team communication and task management tool Deskun. I think it's weird to compare task management and communication tools.

A downside to using "free" is that it makes it that much harder to leave if you need to with your data in hand.

Dude have you tried GUEST user then assign it to the projects? 15 users is just a team name but you can add unlimited guest users and not all time you have to put all the members or part of the team.

Indeed, this video lead to false information about asana. We have almost 50 users for FREE (It's unlimited) and now we can't live without asana! :)

Nice video. Currently our team uses Asana, basically because we have different tasks in different projects that we need to manage and discuss. Different tasks can have different follower/contributors. I've used Slack for a very short assessment period with a different company so I can't compare them.

Never tried Asana. Slack has become my new email notification replacement tool. I'm tired of creating email newsletters and clients telling me they can't read the email because some images/text are missing or misplaced. Everyone's using different email clients and with Slack everybody sees the same thing. And you can move your email list to Slack or have guest mode. I think Slack should be more marketed towards people who have clients/followers. Not so much of a focus or project management team. Does that make sense?

I have slack with todoist integration, but my (very small) design team is not happy with the experience that they offer. They think that hassling with a bunch of apps is a time-sinking process. So I am searching for an alternative. Asana seems a great alternative but not having a desktop app is a downside. Any recommendation would welcome.

Asana is FREE unlimited guests which is more than enough. We have almost 50 happy team members using asana without a penny and support is also great. I am a big fan of Asana. Personally I did not like Slack as it is too busy and disturbing me with too much of notifications. (can't turn off) and it is not task oriented with too much messy in bla bla..

Hi guys. Can you suggest me software, where I can send problems to my team members, we debate/find solution together and after that we can archieve this topic. And in future, when similar problem comes, we can find our discussion again from archieves. Even better, if I can use some tag-words to make it simpler to find it.

Why not use Yammer, Asana or Podio? Also, there is not task management with Slack.

That is not really task management like that in Asana, Podio or Wunderlist. Yes, this work around allows you to make a list of tasks, but it does not give you a way to set due dates, reminders, etc.
@cybermonkeyusa
@cybermonkeyusa 8 лет назад
There is slack integration for Asana and Wunderlist, but it has the same capabilities for communications, so I am not seeing where one would need slack if they were already using one of these tools.

Slack won’t be free for long for the smaller user, they are a public company now, people got to start paying. Everybody likes free, except at the company they work at. I believe all novel software inventions should charge, especially if that technology improves your bottomline.

The obnoxiously long grammarly ad gave this video a thumbs down. That was a slimy way to run an ad providing no way to skip ad.

It is a bloody hipster tool for millennials who are unable to properly structure their communications.. I hate it, I'm forced to use this, but it adds nothing of value apart from an abstraction layer for the interactively challenged to hide the fact that they can't think beyond 140 characters.
@Atrain204
@Atrain204 8 лет назад
I'm genuinely curious about what you dislike about these apps. What makes other (older) ways better?
@Diggnuts
@Diggnuts 8 лет назад
Alex Henry They are solutions to problems that don't exist and then create a whole slew of new communication problems. What these apps to is taking away the notion that communicating takes thought.
@Atrain204
@Atrain204 8 лет назад
Fair enough. As someone who hates email, I welcome new ideas that can change how people communicate and coordinate each other. While no web-based solution is the end-all-be-all app that they claim to be, office environments need all of the innovation they can get.
@O1OO1O1
@O1OO1O1 7 лет назад
Heh, what a load of crap. If you don't like it, fair enough. But using that to justify calling them unneccessary or bad is silly. What tools would you suggest to replace them? People used to use paper-based tools, and much less good digital tools. Many people still use email, which is a very ineffective communication tool that people often use for project management and file sharing--things email really sucks at. Now we have better tools that are much more suited to those tasks. Your idea that the people who use modern tools can't think beyond 140 characters is laughable and, to me, more so a sign of bad (fallacious) thinking.
