If you hold multiple shells in your hand then drop one into the loading area, use your thumb to push that shell in then drop the next one in and do the same. It helps with reload speed

Everything about this gun. Every sound it makes, smell it produces and glint that shines in your eye like a smile from a sheila, is absolutely sexy.

Can you imagine just walking into no man's land WWI, you're almost there to the other side. Then some asshole pops up and mag dumps this. Every shot seems to miss but then you get hit once, directly in the eye. You're still alive. Shotguns are terrifyingly effective at what they're meant to do.

I knew a old ww1 german veteran who was a patient in the nursing home that i worked in years ago. I would always sit down and ask him about the war and his life experiences. One time i asked him what the average german feared most on the western front and in his deep german accent he replied “ it waz ze american shotguns that ze marines brought to france “, “ zees gunz would destroy one of our platoons in a matter of zeconds”.

Nice. My neighbor has one of these but unfortunately he let his kids screw around with it back in the day. They spot welded all kinds of crap on it and ripped it apart of course without understanding exactly how to do it. 30 years after they screw around with it I get to take a look at it. Start taking it apart and this thick black jelly starts coming out of everything. Put it back together and immediately nope out of that messy situation. Said to myself "dammit, the gun is ruined anyways."

It is well known that the germans hated and feared this shotgun and often referred to it as a trench broom or trench sweeper due to its effectiveness of clearing a trench in a matter of seconds. However, it is lesser known that the shotgun was also referred to as a german shredder by the british who were able to get there hands on a few of these guns

It's a lot faster to press the slide release than drop the hammer to cycle the action. You just have to pull forward on the pump when pressing the button to unlock the slide.

I so badly want a movie with some trench war fare and John wick-esque shootouts with all the weaponry of the era and all the trench mods made to rifles and trench clubs

Beautiful weapon, i have a winchester 1897 that my grandfather brought back from ww1. Gun works like a charm and never malfunctions. When my grandfather was bored in the trenches or on sentry duty he carved engravings in the stock. One of my favorite is an engraving of a german being shot my a us marine and the words trench sweeper e grabed in the stock

whenever I look at the trench gun I keep thinking of THE trench gun from Pavlov VR lmao

This shotgun had a little feature known as slam fire. You see the gun did not contain a disconnector which meant that you could hold your finger on the trigger and everytime you slide the pump forward a round will go off. Hence you could fire the gun as fast as you could work the pump. Us marines and soldiers would stack german soldiers by the hundreds with this shotgun. There is even a story of one soldier taking 70 german prisoners with just one shotgun because they feared this gun so much. Hence the germans tried to ban the weapon but failed as the world laughed at them for there hypocrisy.

btw, if the hammer is cocked you can rack the slide without dropping the hammer by pressing the bolt release button on the right side. You should be able to reach it with your trigger finger.

Fun fact: This gun was actually disliked by the soldiers using it, as in WW1 they had to use shells that were made of paper, which were vulnerable to the conditions of war. It still kicked Germany's ass tho

Not an American, so I ask cause I'm curious about some of the known-by-all weird gun laws you have: Wouldn't slam fire be considered legally full auto, as you're firing more that one round with a single action of the trigger?
