As you are in a cool wind with your 'thin' Floridian blood, might I as a Canadian make a few suggestions. LAYERS. Everyone has heard of this way of dressing, starting with a base layer if you can of thinsulate long underwear, long sleeves, long legs, cotton, wool might be too scratchy for your skin under the top layers. Then a sweat suit with a pull over hoody to prevent the wind from getting under, not a zippered one, which would allow wind to blow straight through to your chest. If you can get another woollen sweater suit to put over top of the other it would be an extra layer to keep in the mini-greenhouse heat that your body creates by itself under these layers. Top it off with your foul weather jackets, works almost like a tarp over a tent while camping, keeps out moisture and the super strong wind gusts. Keep your head covered with a tight fitting cap and your feet need to be kept warm, so heavier footwear. If your feet are warm then your core doesn't need to work as hard. Starting to sweat? Remove one of the lower layers only, and see if you cool in 15-30 minutes.

The Solomons are a nice area to sail. As a Canadian, I used to have a tuque like that one that I wore in Winter, skiing or playing with the snow, not on a sailboat in the fall... Cheers, Richard

If your anchor is covered in mud, leave it a few feet in the water as you sail on until its washed clean. Just don't forget about bringing it all the way up later. Banging against the hull near bow will let you know.

Wonderful seeing your video of Mill Creek at Solomons Island. If you had come up the creek another quarter mile we would have seen you anchored. The cold north winds of the Chesapeake can be brutal. We have had some challenging times out there around the NAS Patuxent River Targets.

I live just off the Ches. Bay about 12 miles north of Solomons Island and have sailed the area for years. The Bay can go from a totally flat and still pond to a very scary monster with every condition in between. Solomons area is a very relaxing peaceful and picturesque place especially first thing in the morning.

When sailing wing on wing with a poll and a preventer, It takes time to change sheets setup if you need to give way. That's why, when WoW, you should take the main to the left and the head to the right, the opposite to what is seen in the movie. With main on the left you don't need to give way.

From northern Canada. Beau complaining about being cold, and here I am scraping antifouling at -20 C because it is finally warm enough to do boatwork. No sympathy my friends. You are sailing with the main sheeted in too much for a dead run. Actually you are sailing with it over sheeted for a beam reach. You are leaving a lot of speed untapped plus making the boat much more difficult to steer. When goosewinged aim for tight leaches by using the vang/ preventer and pole downhaul & sheet.
