Intro riff sounds a lot like March of the Fire Ants, by Mastodon, but with a higher tone. Pretty good!

slash said that sweet child o mine is the most gayest song ever and that he hated it for years, and in spite of that on each his album is some simillar D minor riff....fall to pieces, the last fight, ghost, no more heroes, iris of the storm....cant wait for next :D

Those notes are obviously in his blood somewhere and he subconsciously needs to reinvent the riff to relieve his grief of it :)

He never said that. The question was: there are some song that you wrote that you hate? He said, no, I dont think so. However, there was such a relaxed interview, he decided to make a joke and said: "at that time (when they wrote AFD), I didnt like SCOM so much, so you can see you cant take my opinion too serious". The interviewer said "you said that the intro was a silly exercise, right?", then he said: "no, I always loved the instrumental part, I just thought (at that time) the lyrics didnt quite matched our style. That KIND OF BALAD (not SCOM, per say) was the gayest thing you could write at that time. roneit i saw that interview and dont remember all details, but its well known fact that slash didnt like that song very much before and when they released apettite for destruction...you know what i mean ;)

Weird riff took me at least an hour to get it down. The open notes on the b string play the role of a perfect pedal tone
