It's a fact: Stevan Adler IS A FUCKING DRUMMER, he has the beat in his being. This guy can survive a nuclear blast and keep drumming as if nothing had happened.
I didn't know this happened. I am stunned watching this. Steven has so much more swing to his playing than Matt does. Not taking anything away from Matt, but Stevens style just fits G-N-R better in my opinion. He sounds really good here.
I feel like steven is has more style and groove and feeling, while matt plays everything very on time like a machine, but lime you said, he is a great drummer, i prefer steven
That was really great. And he was so enjoying himself. Izzy was having a good time too. So cool they did this for him. Just think, if Axl and Duff would have shown up that night they would have had a mini reunion. Too bad they didn't! If they could have at least gotten Duff it would have been even better!!!! Those fans got a major treat!
Didn't he bash this whole thing later in some interview? That Adler is playing GnR songs to low rent crowd with second grade musicians or something? I mean I read this somewhere not sure about the truth of it. But felt very sad...
I've always thought Steven Adler had a certain groove that was as integral to Appetite's sound as any voice or instrument. When they sacked him and did those illusion things,it was a different groove hence a different band.
Cheers,I thought it was just me for years, but I realize now that "appetite" really sounded so different to "hairspray non-anonymous" due to all 5 locking on that killer swing! '
"The great bands have that chemistry, that indefinable thing. It's a very delicate balance. Once you alter it in any way, it's gone forever."-Joe Strummer
i haven't seen slash this happy and excited playing in A LONG time, steven was killing it on the drums too, miss that the most, too bad all of g n r wasn't back for a reunion that would have been awesome
Man that was Cool to see Izzy and Slash dueling away, that sure was one for the Ages, good to see Steven Banging the Skins again, very cool seeing Slash cut a rug towards the end, Two big thumbs-up! it made me smile.........
There’s too many guitarists on the stage. If Izzy and Slash were up there, the others (except the bassist) should’ve given the stage to them. BIG FACTS. 🤷🏻♀️
Hard to believe that it's been over 30 years since all five members of the "classic" lineup have appeared on stage together. There have been various mini-reunions, like this video, or Izzy and Duff playing selected shows with GN'R, and of course the 2016 NITL reunion, but the last time that Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven performed together was Farm Aid 1990.
And you know, they said Steven was awful during that performance, but he didn't sound as bad as everyone was saying if you ask me. And they played songs he didn't really know too. He had not been back that long.
After seeing Steven Adler perform these songs, GN'R could've given him a second chance in the mid ninties, it would've worked out; he was highly popular among the fans.
Guns n Roses, the Led Zeppelin of the 80's. this band had the chance to be the greatest band of all time. but pissed it away. I think Axle though he was G n R but failed to realize, you cant replace people like Slash or even Adler for that matter.
Eliana Montes I have mixed emotions about axle. as a band mate, I think he's a dick. as a person, well he can also be a dick :-) but he has done some good things with his money, given it away.I saw guns n roses live in their prime. (august 28 + 29, 1988 at Mansfeild, Ma/great woods) they were the opening act for Aerosmith. I will say this, they were incredible live. the first night they were really good, the second night, AMAZING ! even a different set list, adding in songs like rocket queen, anything goes, one in a million.like I said, they were on the way to be being the next Led Zeppelin. and in my opinion the only other band ive ever seen live that came close to the same energy was when I saw the original Alice N Chains in Portland Maine July 5th, 1991. that was a show that altered my life. if you have ever seen Layne Staley sing live in the early 90's, you know what I mean. just amazing.
Unfortunately I was born in 1990, but the first time that I saw a video of GNR I was blown away, I fell in love with the band. And yes axl is a dick, but you know all of that is in the past now and I don't think that they will get together anytime soon or ever.
+chuck jones GNR is my favorite band ever, but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say they had GOAT potential. Certainly they had the potential to be the GOAT hard rock band; as it is I honestly would take 87-88 GNR over any version of Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc. They were incredible. Axl isn't GNR, but there isn't really another singer who can do the things he can (Mike Patton is the only rock singer who has more range than Axl, I have heard. Haven't listened to him yet tho) or rather could do, as he has damaged his voice a lot.
So weird that Axl is getting booked in stadiums even though he doesn't make much music, cancel half the gigs and is the only member of the original band... then all the other guys are getting booked in clubs and small venues with MOST of the line up !... and they are all consistently releasing albums... if they had the G&R name they'd be doing the same music but they'd be a megaband getting booked into stadiums. Axl doesn't deserve to have the name... he unwept behind their backs and copyrighted it without telling them now he sits at home doing nothing with it.
+Finlay Cowan new gnr was reduced to clubs and theaters and has over run it's course. Axl Slash and Duff are getting back together and playing next yr some festivals and in 2017 tour
+Finlay Cowan the rest of the guys left the band...Axl is the last man standing so to speak, therefor he has the rights to the name and the name is what you book
If Guns n' Roses doesn't have Axl, no one will know them. Just give up people, stop saying Axl is nothing, you have to admit, no Axl there's definitely no GnR.
Tjrey is 100% correct. They have been called GNR since Axl, Izzy, and Tracii Guns joined forces. Duff was the next to join (but not the original bass player) and then Slash and Steven Adler joined. He is right there is only 1 true original onstage.
Axl is certifiably nuts and he sounds horrible. I read Steve Adler is battling his demons again sad that they made such great rock and roll. If you read Adler's book even before they became a bad they were all already dysfunctional I have no idea how they stayed together that long.
+Rorrox54 Yeah, but Axl has lost 50% of his voice! So now what? lol But as bad as he sounds, I'd still like to see Axl, Slash, Steven, Duff, and Izzy all together for a reunion! Then after the reunion, get Miles Kennedy to sing! lol
I'm a drummer. Everyone can study and get chops. But you cant buy spirit and feeling. Matt Sorum has chops, but he plays very loud ,fat and heavy and behind the beat. Steven has got more swing, he is lighter, he plays on top of the beat and makes GNR sounds better.
thank you for saying that. it isn't always needed to hit hard on everything. it's boring. or to be loud on everything. the opening to brownstone now is too slow and hit too hard. i think it sounded just right for the song. come in subtlety on it. and just to think, it was only what? 4 years after this that they were at the hall of fame induction. too bad izzy wasn't there.
Listen to Axl in Hollywood to the motherfuckin' Rose (Hollywood Rose) this was the band that Steven and Izzy discovered Axl in. This was when Tracii Guns was still in the band. Axl is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. There I said it. You don't know NOTHING about Axl if you haven't heard him in Hollywood Rose.
+PrismEdits At once upon a time, Axl was a btter singer than Myles. But Axl has now lost the voice he once had, and Miles is much better. And yes, Myles is a humble person.
+basketsbylynda I saw Slash play with Myles Kennedy live. Completely unremarkable and bland singer. Axl Rose at his best blows him out of the water, no fucking contest.
Matt is really an incredible drummer. Check him out on a track from the "Burning for Buddy" CD. Obviously it's a tribute to Buddy Rich, but he does some smokin' stuff.
the music just sounds right just unmistakable ,same as velvet revolver doin its so easy with izzy no one else can sound like them when the play together axl can have as many diffrent members as he wants will never sound right without the original members its all the little bits they add the notes that others dont put in even when matt an gilby joined just was never right
SJW_1982 Same here...in fact, I've kept either an original CD or a burned copy of "Appetite" in the trunk-mounted or in-dash CD changer of EVERY car I have owned since about 1990! And for the last 25+ years, I've listened to it at least once every 3-weeks or so, like clockwork!! Not to mention, whenever I play it I never switch to something else or turn it off without playing Rocket Queen. Damn, it is such an amazing song; one of the best last tracks of all time! Perfectly closes the album. And frankly, I skip to track 12 and just play Rocket Queen alone about 35% of the time I even put that record on!!! From the moment I played the whole record straight through for the very first time, that song has been THE one! My all-time #1 favorite Guns composition ever released (which is saying something: I bought my original on vinyl -- so I could dub it onto cassette as well, for use in my Sony Walkman and my friend's car -- at The Warehouse, the summer before my sophomore year of high school began. Even today, its the only G'n'R song I can play WELL...and the one I love to PLAY the most...followed closely by Night Train and Outta Get Me! All amazing songs and probably one of the greatest recordings in human history.
Neither. I simply read and listen. Slash's book said alot, and comments/interviews over the years from the original five credit Izzy with being the predominant song and melody writer from the pre appetite days through the illusion years.
@SCOTTunderTHEsun well, there was the Slash benefit concert with Slash, Duff, Gilby and Matt, then there was the 2007 20th anniversary show with Steven, Duff and Izzy, but the closest I think they've ever gotten was when Izzy joined Velvet Revolver on stage in 2006 or 2007 idk when it was but it's on RU-vid. but there have been some cool performances with the old members.
@OrgasmicPotatoe It's not letting me post the link, but search guns n roses reunion on facebook and it'll take you there. I have heard Slash deny any chance of a reunion since I posted about it, but ya never know.
Who says Izzy doesn't move around on stage enough? Not me. Something they didn't think about when they made that comment back then was that Izzy was also singing backup on all the songs. Slash wasn't singing backup so he could just play and run all over. Axl was singing and dancing, yes. But he could also dance and run all over when he wasn't singing cause he wasn't also playing guitar. So, I wish they had cut him some slack with those thoughts back in the day. You have to look at the whole picture. When someone is a great writer, a great guitarist, a good backup singer, and does move some then that should be plenty. Anyway, I know there were a lot of reasons, but him not moving around enough on stage - that comment always seemed stupid to me. I remember watching GNR sometime around 06 or whenever they went on tour around that time. The band he was with at the time was tight and they sounded amazing music wise, but there was hardly any backup singing. They were running all over the stage and showing off their guitar work etc. but it didn't feel like they were connecting to the song itself. Anyway, Izzy was there and was standing at the mic because he was playing guitar and actually trying to sing backup and they were running around like the were on fire! That's great and all, but someone has to stand at the mic and sing backup sometimes, lol. And he looked like the only one who was trying. My point is that Izzy was not just standing there playing guitar back then. He was also singing. And he was a great go between for the rest of the band and Axl too. I love him. And I love they played with Steven here! I wish I had been there! I actually lived there around that time! Darn! How awesome. Slash was really enjoying himself too. Izzy was really into it also! Loved it.
Sorry other fans, This is Sounds perfect. I also love Matt's heavy drumming, he played great drums in the snake pit. But the early Guns are perfect for Steven's punkish drumming. Just my personal opinion.
With videos like these as proof, and Axle being as greedy as he is, I would be surprised if he isn't going after Adler for performance royalties for any GNR material that they perform! Axle ruined everything!
lol, he's there but the camera guy is not getting him on camera and only focusing on slash. a lot of times people couldn't see izzy cause he sang backup and had to stay near a mic. slash could run around, dance and play cause he didn't have to worry about it. look closely and you'll see him. he's moving and having a good time but staying somewhat close to mic so he can sing. i mean, it's his song - he has to sing, baby!
