Sometimes you need some miles on a beautiful Spring day! I headed up to Lake Winfield Scott and took the Slaughter Creek Trail up to the Appalachian Trail. I headed south on the AT to Jarrard Gap and back to Ol' Gobi for a nice loop. The stop in at Woods Hole Shelter added some mileage with a 6.5mi total. Spring is moving up the mountains as evidenced by the small ground flowers that are starting to wake up!

Thanks Uncle Joe. Did this loop to the top of Blood in March 2023. Chose it because of your videos, and it was a great day. Got an early start and went up to Jarrard Gap first, and loved hiking with all of those young thru hikers (I am 67).

It's a nice way to bo up Blood for sure. A little longer but if you catch it the right time you get a nice gauntlet of flowers as well.

Fond memories of camping a Winfield Scott and hiking that loop, always up to Blood, a couple times. Funny sweet memory is Lori tripping and scrapping her knee on the AT toward Jarrod Gap. She tells it, I tripped her trying to push her off the mountain. I say, her word against mine. 😊 Thanks for sharing your adventures!

Thanks for the ‘rattlesnake’ shout out 😄 That was a good sized one, curled up on that rock and only a couple of feet off the trail.

I'm not familiar with the bear canister terminology ... actually first time I've seen a bear box too. I've seen bear proof trash boxes to dispose of any garbage that had food associated to it. I guess I thought people hung their food up high in trees in bags. Is canister kind of the same thing?

In this area from March 1 to April 1 you have to carry a bear-proof canister to store your food if you plan to camp from Jarrard Gap to Neels Gap.
