I don't think it's wrong to compare this to old Slipknot. I would say this song sounds like it was made by Slipknot's angry Russian cousin. And that is a dope thing.
@@cringeanimations7227 I keep seeing comments like this when two bands get compared for the smallest of things saying they're heavier and literally nothing else or proclaiming what that means to them You are aware "heaviness" is a nebulous thing....it doesn't mean anything by itself. Yes....by technicality they are heavier than slipknot nowadays.....debatable for when Slipknot was in the dark years But like.....what is your point in bringing it up. Do you think heavier means better.....if so why not just say you like them more, if not what is the point? It doesn't mean anything by itself
It's actually really Slipknot. In fact, a lot of the riffs and drumming patterns are in style of Slipknot and just Nu Metal in general. I really love it.
Some references, that can be found there. Baba Yaga - in slavic folklore its witch, that lives in deep forest (word Baba or Баба in russian means either grandmother or countryside style of calling any woman. Thats kinda rude, but still), and in some stories acts as helper to hero of story, and sometimes works as "horror" antagonist, like she's stealing children and cook em in big pot. Also, btw, anthropologists, who study russian folklore also associates Baba Yaga with.... How to say that. Like gatekeeper between real world and world of the dead, like clear origins of that character are somewhat unclear. In famous John Wick series John's nickname is Baba Yaga, altough she's clearly mythologycally woman, no male counterpart. So i can think that they either played on topic of either Alex acting as Baba Yaga, like some of russian lyrical parts saying, or he acted as killer of witch, because you can see, that body parts - head look like kinda womans head. So, he killed and they with boys eaten Baba Yaga, presumably. Also, interior in start of video is clearly interior of traditional russian/slavic home from mid-ages to even nowadays in countryside parts of Russia. One of boys also cooked some body parts in pot in start. So, thats mythological references. English lyrics and some parts of russian one are in style of "Im so tough, cool, dont cross way before me", etc. So i assume, thats probably reference to John Wick, like all that lasers pointed at Alex, tank, rocket launcher, bulletproof west. Also, scene in the end, where they play russian roulette - they all wearing russian gopnik, or 90-2000's russian mafia style clothing, thats why tracksuits with gold chains, leather jackets, etc. It is canonical look of russian gangster from mid nineties to up to 2010. Also, whole scene, i think, is reference to somewhat "cultish" russian dark comedy, called Жмурки, or Jmurki in stransliteration. I dont know, how to translate that word in context, because there can be serious wordplay. That is very obscure, gory and dark comedy about some unfortunate russian bandits and their doings. Also, i think, that song is somewhat collection of all russian related stereotypes, like bear, russian house, baba yaga (folklore witch), tank, rocket launcher, AK rifle, winter, bandits, vodka, russian roulette. But its not just like stereotypes, but whole design of video is not just make fun of em, but to make em look cool and stylish, so group definetely embracing that "folklore". Sorry for bad english and long post
Yeah the fucking breakdown is awesome. You really get into it. That's some shit that will bring you back to having a good day. Nice reaction man much love from North Carolina,USA 🇺🇸
Alex has said before that he was heavily influenced by slipknot growing up or at some point in his life. So yeah he definitely incorporates lots of slipknot and some nu metal Korn like elements into this song. You definitely were able to pick up on that. If you want brutally heavy but still has lots of groove, then I'd suggest checking out To The Grave. They're an Australian deathcore band that's really killing it right now. Not every song will up your alley, but they overall tend to have a really solid headbanging groove to their sound. Plus crazy vocals and an insanely addictive mix + master to their sound. Especially the drums, and the bass drums if you got a subwoofer. Maybe try "miserable summer" as a starting point for them. After that any of the ones with music videos should be good.
Makes sense, especially if you've seen his Slipknot covers - most of his covers are distinctly different from the originals, his Slipknot covers feel like he's really going out of his way to be as faithful to the originals as possible.
I can definitely hear their Slipknot influence and i love that Even with the keg sound during the breakdown But you can tell it's influence and not just copying. That's hard to do, to be influenced by a band and not just copy them. I love when i hear one of their songs and im like, that sounds like Slipknot, nice😈.
The band hasn't been around for long since 2017 I believe they have 2 albums rn Misery Sermon and Chapters Of Misery this song was apart of their new album releasing in August KOLOSTEM
Yay! Such a brutal and amazing song! 🔥🤘🏻 I agree with the Slipknot reference, to my understanding Alex love Slipknot so...makes sense that they would incorporate that in their songs. Be sure to check out the Hypa Hypa covers if you already haven’t! Amazing stuff as well! 🤘🏻
I feel the same about the breakdown as you do. My first listen....hands on my head.....looking at the floor.....as my soul is snatched by four guys who perfected it. I see where you also get to early Slipknot. In particular the Iowa album. I hear other influences to....the portions where Alex is talking his sh*t the first think I thought was Rage Against the Machine or Korn when they got in their bag. There I also here Nu-Metal influences, especially with the bassist and the lead guitarist. Like Rob Zombie meets Static X. Great reaction
More then that u hearing Slipknot in that breakdown, just listen to Sulfur, and a breakdown down there. Its sounds just similar. But both of them are sick songs.
7:54 I had to hear it like four times before I understood completely what he is saying (in russian) Translate: Granny Yaga with a claw foot sharpens his teeth to devour children Granny Yaga with a claw foot with a hooknose who am I Granny Yaga
One of my pet peeves is when people pronounce demolisher as "de-MO-li-sher" instead of "DE-mo-li-sher" like alex does in the song. Ik "de-MO-li-sher" is the right pronounciation and alex pronounces it with a russian accent but it just sounds wrong when people say "de-MO-li-sher". No hate, of course, if you do pronounce it like that. Nice reaction nonetheless, drew! Greetings from sweden!
Drew, you HAVE to do “war” by meshuggah, I have been trying to get somebody to listen to that song for ages, not a single reaction for it, you could be a first
Dude you need to go down the trail of Animals as Leaders like you did Gojira... don't listen to The madness of many, their last album, until you've heard alot of the greats, THEN do a full album review of madness of many...!!!
Yo drew have I got a song request for you. The song is called The Graves we’ve Dug by Harakiri for the sky. It’s a long and heavy black metal track that I think you’ll enjoy.
When you said you aren’t sure if they’re taking it serious or not it got me thinking because they were trying to have fun and make some funny videos for people to watch when they are bored. They take all of their music seriously hents the new song they just put out and all of the songs they put out in the past.
Sup Drew? There's a new Lorna Shore song called "Into the Hellfire". I'm not huge about it myself, but based on a particular band you've done in the past I'm guessing you'd dig it. 🤘
This man needs to react to some Monuments ASAP. You should do a album reaction to Phronesis (latest album) and The Amanuensis (the album before. Guaranteed neck breakers.
No, I *sincerely* hope nobody takes this wrong; But this song totally has Nero Forte vibes. Suuuuuper different song obviously, in no way am I saying they ripped Slipknot off nor even that they sound similar. Just vibes. Just little hints. Little whiffs of Nero Forte, nothing more. Like, just enough that they'd fit perfectly on the same tour while still being two totally different sets
Hard people used to get tattoos. Now you see babies sipping tea, with their sleeves, wincing at watching a mannequin be eaten by a trained bear in a music video. Y’all ain’t hard.
