skipping an easy overwhelming win by auto resolves so you can fight the battle yourselves for the sake of your principles even though it ends in crushing defeat is something i respect, not necessarily something i can agree with, but definitely something i can respect

The autoresolve assumed the artillery, mostly the goblin hewer, got to do significant damage. The hewer died with full ammo from a cav charge.

i love fighting slaanesh factions. so fast paced and every split decision could mean life or death for a unit (especially cavalry). its a shame that you barely get to fight them after the first 50 turns since n'kari gets bodied and chaos warrior factions never get stronger than 2 armies. CA should add occasional chaos rifts in the chaos wastes or something to change that. besides, a chaos endgame crisis is well overdue

Isn't the amount based on how many factions you have discovered? Since Lionheart has been sending Lords to discover factions since the start the amount of grudges needed raises everytime. So by discovering more factions the game things you have more armies to go after all those factions and get more grudges quicker

Yeah, that battle vs. Slaanesh was surpriseingly impressive! I don't think I've seen a loss since you fought the Skaven as Imrik way back in the day of WH2!!! :D

Ironside Sage #9 "Move, move, everyone get to the high ground now," Undur shouts and his soldiers don't hesitate or ask questions. Not that they need to ask questions as the shouting and insults hurdled by the approaching forces of Drippin Fangs is a satisfactory and clear explanation. From his gyrocopter, Morgris can see clearly everything that is coming towards them and this time, he counts orcs among the ranks of the opposing army and they have no help to support them. He had hoped that after driving away Drippin Fangs and their hobgoblin ally that they wouldn't have any reserves left to put into the fight, what with Malakai Makaisson's advance further south and initial victory here at The Blasted Expanse. Nevertheless, the supply lines further south need to remain open even though The Blasted Expanse has been lost and this army is all that stands in the way. "This will either strike something from the book, or add to it with nothing in between," Morgris remarks. He looks down at his brother and proceeds to shout over the whirling of his gyrocopter's rotor blades. "Undur, there are orcs in this army and though the are not black orcs, they don't look to be any nicer. I advise that we keep our distance and engage as many of them as we can with artillery." "I don't know how well we can do that, but we'll certainly have to try," Undur shouts back. "Can you see the supply convoy from up there? We never received any word from it nor found any sign of it before these wazzucks took the settlement. It may have diverted course." "I was about to add that the convoy could have been attacked, but instead, I'd suggest that you turn around," Morgris points back behind him and there is the convoy of steam driving wagons moving into position behind the two brother's army. Quick to exit the lead wagon is Utrid who rushes up to her eldest sibling and proceeds to question him about what is going on. Once the youngest of the Ironside children is up to speed, the three of them are ready to stand their ground and make or break this campagin. As the grudge throwers begin firing, Morgris keeps his pilots positioned along the flanks of the army in order to watch for and intercept any possible surprises that may be in store for them. There is no terrain to use as protection this time, only the high ground that provides a tactical advantage for the ranged weapons of the dawi. The grudge throwers begin their bombardment, flattening orcs and tearing down others with their stone projectiles. Each successful shot makes the possibility of victory ever more achievable. From his gyrocopter, Morgris gets a good view of the situation. The two selected orc units are already a lesser threat than when the battle started, but more still remain intact. The attention of Morgris and his pilots is suddenly pulled away from the incoming orcs as several units of nasty skulkers appear incredibly close to them with a clear intention of attacking the dwarf line of infantry or flanking it and attacking something else. With no time to waste as hostile cavalry begins to make its own moves, Morgris turns his pilots towards the incoming threat and gives them one order; to turn the skulkers back quickly or to rapidly turn them to ash. The pilots are forced to make a quick and risky reposition because of their enemy's location upon discovery. They make the best that they can of the situation, and then fire into the advancing skulkers. The steam projectiles certainly take some bite out of the skulkers, but the flames of the brimstone guns proves to be much more impactful as it hits multiple nasty skulkers. The sight of seeing their fellow goblins bathed in fire does not stop the nasty skulkers, but their will to fight does and the two units that are struck by the flames are indeed slowed down. For the first time, the bugman's rangers take part in a battle and they proceed to fill the air with bolts. Their first target is the nasty skulkers, which attempt to seek some safety in a melee fight where the rangers cannot fire without the risk of hitting their own. However, their change of target is just late enough that it gives the bugman's rangers time to fire a single volley that finishes what Morgris and his pilots start. Even though their aim is obstructed by the nasty skulker's smoke bombs, the rangers spot enough of their enemy's silhouettes to be sure of their aim. When the skullkers break from the fighting, just a matter of steps away from the backs of the dwarf warriors along the flank, Morgris' pilots turn to the incoming orc cavalry. For their part, the bugman's rangers engage the incoming infantry directly ahead of their battle line. Hoping that they can do enough with them in time to take the bite out of this greenskin army. The goblin archers soon respond, firing the first volley in their individual fight with the rangers, but their arrows prove less than effective against the rangers who take heart and comfort in the protection of Undur's Iron Skin rune that they all bear while under his banner. The inevitable happens and the two sides clash in melee, but here is when the tide turns. Utrid uses the power of her runes to cast a single specific spell, taking great care to aim it appropriately in order to maximize the sturdy and stout line of dwarf warriors. She casts her spell and waits for several seconds, then in a burst of lames a burning skull emerges and proceeds to move forward. Lined up in a nearly perfect straight line, orcs and goblins alike are suddenly and quickly swept away by the spell The Burning Head and most important is that the spell creates openings in the battle line. Once safe to do so, the dwarf warriors don't even hesitate for a moment before breaking their shield wall and moving into the gaps and pushing forward against their foe. "You have perhaps just turned this entire battle on its head sister," Under remarks as he uses the rune of wrath and ruin to assist his rangers. I can already see that my soldiers are making use of the damage that spell did and though these orcs are going to do a lot of damage, it won't be enough because many of them are trying to fight multiple enemies at once. That alone will be the doom of many orcs in short order." "It will help, but we need to take out their warboss," Utrid replies as she gathers more magic to cast another spell. "If we don't get them, they'll keep organizing and we cannot safely get supplies to Lord Makaisson. I can attempt to bring them down myself using spells, but that isn't a likely outcome." "We'll make do as we can then, if we don't get them here then let's at least make sure that we take as many teeth out of this army as we can," Undur states with a nod. The battle continues and for a bit it seems like the orc cavalry could be a threat, but the gyrocopters manage to stop the worst of their attack and Utrid's use of Transmutation of Lead takes even more bite out of this threat for a short while. Outnumbered against the dwarf warriors, the orc boar boyz fail to make up for the significant damage done by Utrid's spell and the ranged weapons of the dawi. As the rest of the army begins to fall apart under the pressure of bombs, bolts, and spells, so too do the orc boar boyz. The orc boar boyz' decision to retreat marks the moment when the rest of the army decides to run from battle. When the battle is over, the three siblings take time to discuss what happened and what to do. "Utrid's spells saved us, I'm sure of that," Undur states under the night sky as the three of them look at a map of the region. "They lost the last battle, and simply brought out tougher forces to face us so next time I'd wager that they'll bring artillery." "It will run dangerously close to the border with the Servants of the Conclave, but there is still what should be a largely safe route to Lord Makaisson and if he starts moving north again, that will make the situation much more...acceptable?" Though she calls the situation acceptable, Utrid isn't sure if this is the right word. "We're still in fighting shape so I think that maybe it is time that we stop letting our enemy choose the battlefield. The supplies were not under my command, so I can follow you both into the battle and we can take this fight to Drippin Fangs before they regroup with an even stronger army or more armies." Morgris looks up from the map, and directly at Undur, "Considering our current situation, I don't see how we can avoid what our sister is putting forward. We've bloodied our enemy twice now, if we don't take advantage of this now we may not get another chance without Lord Makaisson's help."

Lionheart if you switch all you're trinket makers to trade depots you will have lots of oathgold generation and you're money will only go down by 100 or 200. The difference in income is negligible. That would be my tip fo you :) Get that oathgold flowing so you can go for some nice runes and/or good research paths. Also lionheart, you have 4 more adventures that you can start! Please activate them ;)

Just finished my campaign today. I am sure, you will love all the quests battles. I personally hated the Skaven one, but the Chaos battle was a lot of fun. The new grudge system has been the only real downsite of this campaign for me. I used a mod after the amount of grudges got out of hand but with the mod i always reached 100% at turn two or three, which made it it much too easy. This needs a lot of balancing.

Agree with your concens about the Ahe of Reckoning (AoR) feature. Suggested solution: Make the AoR optional, like the adventures of Malakai. This will still allow players to follow a storyline (preferably several independent storyilines so there is no enforced story-driven mechanisms), while they can enjoy the free snadbox world, I for one totally love. If a player choses NOT to take the AoR storylines, then no effects. If a player takes the AoR storylines, or one or several, there WILL be storydriven effects, positives as well as negatives, for the faction. Thus, the idea can live on, as well as a free sandbox environment. Just an idea. CA will be welcome to use it if it is good enough.

Sending your heroes out to find new factions is what is adding to the grudge target. Will be changed in patch 5.1 to only be factions you border

Slaanesh was the perfect counter to your build, I think the Auto-Resolve was a bit drunk there though. They just had the perfect combo of armour-piercing on the frontline with fast cav units to mow down your lightly armoured Slayers. Pity they knocked the Goblin Hewer out so quickly though and Grapeshot would've been devastating against their lack of armour. Looking forward to seeing Grombrindal back in action, been so long since your original playthrough of him. I wonder if Karl actually defeated Vlad to get the Crown or if it bugged like the Glaive Gun and there's now 4 of them or something lol

Psst...Flame Cannons are actually REALLY good against infantry. Think of them as flamethrowers with longer range and higher damage. :D

I wanted to fight that battle rather than take the easy option of the autoresolve. I mainly play and enjoy these games for their real-time battles not autoresolves. Plus doesn't help that the auto resolve isn't that accurate most of the time giving easy wins where there should be much tougher fights. You have the benefit of hindsight here as well something that's impossible for me to know playing live ;)

It's typically not worth the public order hit and or the lost of higher tier buildings. I tend to only sack when it's a region I can't occupy well IE orange and red regions. Usually, it's better to not sack or loot and occupy green regions. Have tried both ways over the years and this way works best for me and my playstyle.
