It's really a shame that most people only kno2w Toni Basil for Mickey, as she's had a pretty impressive career. In addition to this, she acted in such movies as Dennis Hopper's Easy Rider and The Last Movie and Robert Downey (Sr.)'s Greaser's Place (as well as stuff on the other end of the spectrum like Myra Breckenridge). She also did a LOT of work as a dancer (touring with Frank Sinatra and opening for Funkadelic) and choreographer (working with such people as the Talking Heads and David Bowie). She danced with Davy Jones in Head and was in a relationship with Gerald Casale of Devo (relevant here, obviously), with Devo contributing songs and backing tracks on her first album. She recently choreographed Tarantino's Once Upon a Time In Hollywood (and apparently knew Sharon Tate). She's had a busy 50 years or so. :-)

The pitch meeting had me in stiches!! Being a Heart fan, seeing Nancy Wilson in this probably would have made me buy this movie just because. After watching you talk about it, I think Ann Wilson might have been better for that role that went to Toni Basil. Lita Ford would have been really good too. Did you ever see the movie L.A. Bounty with Sybil Danning? Howard Leese who was a member of Heart at the time did music for that film...he could have done something here...

In the 70s, 80s, and 90s it seems like even the bad movies were still somewhat good and even low budget films could look good. Honestly since CGI and the increasing view of films as an investment by the ultra wealthy (seriously investment bankers are involved) the bad movies look worse and we dont really "so bad they're good" movies so often as we just see "bland bad" movies. I think that's why even the newer MST3K and RiffTrax episodes never touch anything past the 90s, since the bad movies now arent something you can riff or laugh at, they're just dull and boringly bad.

I stumbled upon this gem at Universal Video in Seaside, Oregon, one of the last surviving video stores that I know of. In the back of the store is an old room that has never changed since I was very young, and it's filled to the brim with B-movie Horror and Sci-Fi films on VHS. I spend a long time in there making notes of all that I need to catch up on. I had fun with this Horror-Comedy, and I'll never be able to listen to Toni Basil's "Mickey" without thinking of this flick.

This reminds me of another Rock n Roll horror movie that suffered from odd casting. It's the British slasher flick THE COMEBACK (1978). It was obvious the story centered on a Mick Jagger, Ozzy Osbourne or Billy Idol type figure but instead they got easy listening crooner, Jack Jones, most famous for singing the Love Boat theme to play the central role. It's not a bad flick but when the killer's motive is revealed, it's obvious Jack Jones wasn't their first choice. :)

I have a secret--this movie is my guilty pleasure. When I first discovered eBay, I found a copy and bought it for 20 bucks. When it arrived, it appeared to have been a video store copy and had a price tag of 79.99!!!! in the time since my VHS machine broke, I couldn't find a copy, but finally about a year ago, I talked the local library into picking up a new DVD and watched it, then I paid a local business called the (Record) Exchange to get it for me. It's currently beside my feet in a bin with other movies such as Wizards (Ralph B), The Phantom of the Opera (Robert E.), and Yellow Submarine (Beatles) along with library DVDs. Yes, I've watched it again. I have The Only One as a 9pm alarm on my phone. People seem confused and are like, what is that song? I also use the quote Sami says often, Just because you're psychic doesn't mean you're intelligent. :) Yeah, I have a weird obsession with this film. My first viewing was in 96 when it was shown on TV. I can't recall which channel. I think it might have been a movie-channel but it is possible it was cable. The music is what grabbed and kept me.

Yo, not to burst my dude's bubble or anything but I think the whole Slaughterhouse ROCK title can be alluded to the fact that Alcatraz is also known as "The Rock" by some natives. That's definitely one thing I learned from playing Watch Dogs 2 lmao but yeah, they just chose the most spooky font they could find (which is, coincidentally, also a niche of the Rock genre) and went with it. So maybe... that's why they were okay with odd choices for a movie that's deceivingly looking like a horror flick themed with that music genre. Idk, that's my best bet.
