TANDEM HEATs are excellents against ERA armor, the first heat (smaller one) activate the ERA bricks and the second one (the biggest) perforates the main armor (homogeous steel armor). This kind of HEAT are the ultimate weapon against tanks!

In reality it's an extremely deadly weapon system. Absolute mechanical reliability in the field, extreme off road capability, amphibious, and carries a load out of the deadliest full spectrum ATGMs of its kind. In game it sucks, in reality it's one of the deadliest dedicated ATGM platforms. Goes anywhere, hides, and fires out to 10K every type of ATGM in existence.

its just that war thunder only offer CQB engagement, never a full fledged map where ATGM is seen with its useful ability that is to guide them over long distances against their shells counterpart.

@@akid1263 The biggest issue is that WT does not model terrain. What literally defines armored vehicles is their ability to cross various types of terrain. Before any firepower and armor capability comes into play, the weapon system simply has to get to engagement zone. Vehicles like Shturm-S are capable of getting into firing positions in terrain that is simply impassible to other vehicles.

Tandem warheads are used mainly against ERA and Spaced Armour configurations. The first charge basically clears any defensive equipment to allow the second charge to penetrate the main armour or hull. Certain versions of the TOW II use tandom warheads.

A tandem warhead is simply two shape charges sitting one in front of the other, configured to fire the smaller lead "precursor" warhead first in order to detonate any reactive armor, then allowing the second "main" shape charge to detonate a fraction of a second later and penetrate and destroy the target.

Phly and everyone else that might wanna know, reason the tube goes back inside the tank is to protect it mainly from dirt and dust which could cause a malfuction in the weapon as well as small arms fire and trying to keep a low profile, you would be amazed the amount of dirt an amoured convoy kicks up IRL it gets everywhere and causes all sorts of problems *phlies away and gets tailsniped by an Otto*

The vehicle this based upon is MT-LB and I saw bunch of them for sale at around 10k euros few years back after they were auctioned of by the swedish military. They all had 100k of modernization and refurbishments in them just few years prior so they were an absolute steal for any one in the market for a fairly practical hobby military tracked vehicle...

There are three main missiles that are compatible with the launch system. The first is a two-stage anti-armour weapon that features a tandem warhead for dealing with add-on armor. Tandem-charge in general is a little HEAT charge followed by the main charge; the objective of the little one is to penetrate the ERA (triggering or not it, some can do one of those other not) and allow the main charge to penetrate the tank armor. This type of warhead is pretty common today on the battlefield, and many ATGMs are tandem-charge equiped (even the RPGs, like the RPG-7 and 29, have tandem grenade)

Yea they should make it where the missile stays out or let u give a command where put it down when u want and let u change out the missiles anyway soo u can have the right one but should also add the NSV 12.7 MG over the commanders hatch just soo it can deal with light vehicles and aircraft if it cant get its missile out on time.

Normally tandem warhead means that the missile has a tiny shaped charge at the tip of a spike at the front of the main body and main warhead and it is meant to detonate prematurely any reactive armor the target may have. It may also function as a stand-off probe to ensure optimal liner to penetrator formation for the main charge.

9M120 is the Ataka ATGM. Its tandem warhead is a dual HEAT for reactive armor penetration. 220O (last one) is an anti-aircraft / anti-rotary wing with a proximity fuse.

Tandem warheads are used for defeating spaced armor and ERA. Theoretically you could use the proximity fused rocket to make it explode above the tank like some new man portable rpgs do.

Tandem warheads were designed with 2 warheads to counter ERA armor with a smaller HEAT-charge detonating the ERA so that the bigger one behind it reached the main armor and penetrated the tank

Tandem Warhead means that there are two warheads in the Munition, the first is a relatively small one ment to Activate a Target's ERA allowing the second one to Strike at the now exposed target with it's full force.

Probably late and you've figured it out by now, but my understanding of the 'tandem warhead' part is so that the secondary warhead triggers ERA, so the primary warhead can effectively attack the armor underneath.

People say the Bradley sucks too, but that's just because none of them know how to play support. Granted, can't really do that on a map like Advance to the Rhine, but most of the time at top tier you get those really big rural maps, which are perfect for support vehicles like the Bradley and the ATGM MT-LB (the vehicle in the video).

Tandem is two hollow charges. I don't think that a second warhead would be able to get inside the tank through the little hole the first charge makes. The idea is that when the first hollow charge hits, it takes out any reactive armour layer and then, the second impacts the main armor directly.

Alright. So. The Gaz-MM-72K: automatic beltfed 25mm. Take it out with AP belts. Advance by reversing towards targets and firing nonstop without mercy like a fucking dalek, then hitting the gas and getting out when you think you're screwed. Can also be used as automatic artillery due to the tanks it faces. I had an awesome session sniping with it on that side mountain in Jungle. You can stop whole advances with it. Attempt 12. I think.

The tandem warhead might be like two shaped charges one after the other, the first one being smaller. The idea is that the smaller charge gets rid of ERA or other such anti-shaped charge protection while the second charge does the actual penetration and damage. At least that's the way the tandem warhead works in the Spike ATGM I used back when I was serving. Great videos btw!

the problem with proximity in wt is probably that at the maximum proximity range at which the rocket can explode its payload is not enough these rockets were probably stronger in real life against air vehicles than in game this means that even if you would get a direct hit on a vehicle the proximity detonator will detonate the rocket before it even hits the target therefore a proximity rocket can only do crits and is therefore only usefull against mobile targets that you cant hit with atgms

Tandem heat just means that it is forming that typical heat sting but two times so it pretty much pumps up the penetration ✌️

that long reload time for a single atgm reminds me of autoloaders having to refill rounds into the drum 20-25 seconds at a time. it's painful...

Tandem warheads are actually against reactive armor...there are 2 charges of heat a small one in the front and a big one behind that... The first one detonates the reactiv armor and the second one penetrates ore so I believe.... At least the German current "RPG" works that way I believe it's Bunkerfaust oder Panzerfaust 3
