I love the feeling that the Princess seems to change based on what's happened to the protagonist. Like if they're scared of her she's scary, if they're intimidated she's powerful looking. The very act of taking the knife makes the protagonist think her voice is commanding instead of compelling. It's so interesting a concept.
I think what really sets off alarm bells for me is the fact that there are TWO chains attached to the wall- implying that she once had both her hands cuffed and managed to escape ONE. ON HER OWN.
@@avocado1845 Thanks and no problem! I literally nodded in agreement and then proceeded to read your comment again, thus spoiling it for myself once more 🤣 this is really becoming a me problem 🙈
I was pleasantly surprised by the 'avoid the cabin' ending! in multi-choice games the 'avoid the plot' player choice can be difficult to make fresh, the cabin stalking the player through the woods and multiplying was very creepy
I love the art style for this game, it actually makes the concept that much more eerie. The developers really know how to utilise the amazing artwork in their games, it looks great and sets the tone really well.
This developer has my personal award of excellent storytelling. The horror genre has been down so many roads that it's hard to find one that doesn't feel like it has been already done before.
This game looks so fun!! Stanley Parable was such an amazing game, seeing any others inspired by it is so awesome! Especially the spooky vibes this brings! Absolutely love it and the voice acting was on point.
So subtle, yet the game just notches up the creep factor by saying "Chapter 2" and repeating the intro narrator monologue. It's so simple, but there's some kind of creepy feeling with that kind of deja vu,.
I had to replay the opening thinking "hold the fuck on-" after she mentioned the MA and relistening, to only to get so damn excited!!! I'm getting yeeted down memory lane and Im LOVEING it.
Cool! I feel like the extra voices that appeared in chapter 2s matched the vibe of what you chose in chapter 1. You were unsure the first time so -> Contrarian. The second time you just murdered her straight up -> Cold. I guess there was also Meek the first time…so maybe that’s from running away…and Contrarian from walking away in the woods? You could probably do another one where you let her go. Maybe we can be evil besties…or she’ll immediately kill us… I also wonder if you could leave the knife on the table to use later if you don’t kill her or something.
spoilers so the way this works is that, whatever your character thinks the princess is, thats what she will be, so when you grab the knife that mekes her more powerfull and scary, but if you don't grab the knife, then she will be nice and harmles, also there is a point in the game where you can pick a dialogue option that says something like "i think she has a knife" and if you pick that one, then a knife will magicaly apear in her hands and she will stab you with it
It's a great touch that the extra voice in Chapter 2 is a direct correlation to how you played Chapter 1. Meek for indecision, cold for the murderous go-getter. I'm curious what all the other voices will be as well.
So personally, in chapter 1, after asking "How long have you been here" and "What's your name?" and getting no proper answers to either, I'd have gone for the slay. Even moreso after she threw a threat at me. Being unyielding/uncompromising in that situation is super dangerous/scary
I loooove how the princess changes according to what you do or don't do I think this game might be all about your decisions shaping your reality and I can't wait for the full game!
This reminded me of the Three Musketeers book when Milady was locked away in a room; the dagger and saying 'don't be fooled by her', and her being too beautiful to be a dangerous, her dialogue with the character even when Milday manipulates Felton into trusting her.
The writing for the story is really well done. There were many twists and turns, with nothing being a completely straightforward choice. This unpredictable nature makes it that much more engrossing, and I look forward to seeing all the different pathways which might open up as the main character continues to go through "revivals," whether it be the princess becoming progressively more outwardly monstrous or, perhaps, maybe even the exact opposite. Very interested to see what comes out of it.
Red flags from her first few sentences. Not just her occasional ominous faces. She threatens and belittles you. I don't completely trust the narrator either, but let's be real
Jonathan Sims has the BEST voice for creepy horror things! Loved the Magnus archives♥️ I need this game asap! Partly because it looks awesome, partly because I need more of Jonathan's voice in my life😂
This game has since had an update with new endings and (it sounds like) new voicework (from nicole at least) to give the princess even more variety and personality. I bet Gab would enjoy playing it again... *damsel pleading eyes* Edit: oh this is just the demo! that explains the different voicework. There were more endings added in the full game, and even more in an update a bit ago. You should totally play this again, there's so much more now.
It actually feel creepy to watch and listen to this while I'm sitting, facing my laptop and behind me is complete darkness. It sends chills down my spine.
Oh that was so cool! I loved the voices and how the story was so dynamic even though it was a demo. I'm very excited to see how they expand from this in the full game
Aaahh this was great!! I love their voices! Listening to the "no sleep" podcast A LOT lately while drawing. So cool to hear them in a game now! Thanks for playing it Gab!
wow i like the small touches of how the new voices turn up, like the meek one turns up after you made the "meek" choices of just leaving the princess imprisoned, and the cold one turns up after you make the cold-blooded murder straight away choice, it's a really cool touch :D
I'm right there with you fangirling over Jon LMAO he and Nicole are incredible voice actors, and I was so excited to see Jon tweet about the game earlier today! Knowing that one of my comfort streamers enjoyed and likes The Magnus Archives like I have is really nice. I also can't help but draw parallels between the Narrator and TMA haha it is really cool premise and the whole unsettling vibe the princess has is amazingly done with the dialogue and the art style, I'll definitely play it myself once the full game is out and can't wait to see you play it as well by then!
I absolutely LOVE Scarlet Hollow!! I ordered the art book, post card, ditching pin, etc! It's my absolute FAVORITE! I swear, when episode 3 came out, I waited until you released your playthrough until I watched it because I only have watched you play it, and I'm not watching anyone else! I know I'll love this if it's even a fraction as good as SH. Thank you Gabs! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey Gab! You totally need to play the full version! I'm not sure how many people have bugged you about it and I hope I'm not being a bother, but I'd really love to see your reactions to this wonderful game at its full power!
This looks FANTASTIC!!! Got all the creepy vibes and was completely enthralled!!!! I’ve always heard of the magnus archives but never been compelled to listen. Hearing his voice sold me!!!
Yo, you HAVe to. Seriously, it's fantastic and gets even better when you listen through it a second time. The voice acting is phenomenal and Jon is a horror-writing genius. You will not be disappointed!
Now that the full game is out, I hope you will play it, maybe even stream it! I Love the game, it is soooo interesting and the voice acting are amazing!
Ahhhhhh, our Archivist Jonathan Sims, Jonathan Sims!!! It's so cool to hear his voice in thiiiiiis!! ...I REALLY, really need to listen to the final season of TMA, but I want to listen to them all again in order first, so it's taking a while. 😭
I really like the art for this, it's nice but creepy, like Fran Bow or some of the best horror choice games from all those years ago. It's like reading a good old book :> Also the voices are great obviously, love the multiple voices and how everyone sounds !
I LOVE the Magnus Archives and their gaming stuff and it has never occurred to me to look up pictures of the actors, but I do very much have an image in my head of them which I've now realised must be wildly inaccurate haha
Are you going to play the full game of this? Mark is playing it right now and I saw that you played this as a demo. Love to see how you go through it ^_^
I think the only, maybe(?), possibility you might have missed is helping the princess escape, and like idk if there's much else to explore with the walls we saw around the cabin or not
The Sandman official trailer dropped yesterday and today I learn that Jonathan Sims, the Archivist himself, is voicing in a new horror game I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY RIGHT NOW 😭
Hey, this is really cool and I'm pleased to see Mr. Sims voice acting for games. Magnus Archives is awesome! I used to love falling asleep to those episodes (and then replaying 'em the next evening to hear what I missed).
I. LOVE. THIS. I'm a huge fan of great writing and great voice acting and this had both! There's so much going on in this game to like but I think what I like the most is the subtle meta concept they are setting up for this game immediately with the first couple chapters. Clearly the narrator refers to you directly and all the voices aren't the character but an external representation of some of the thoughts you may have. The first voice you are given is the voice of the hero which is a role we all assume we are playing when we start a game. But after avoiding conflict and seeing what the princess could do, a meek voice became more pronounced and not only did he have ideas that we were all thinking, the meek voice expressing his ideas had influence on you deciding to walk away the second time. You had the curiosity before but him voicing it aloud that you should avoid her sparked the curiosity of what would happen if you left. This game will be an experiment of how much do we get influenced by the voices inside our head and how often do we actively try to push against what they say
Does anyone know if Gab said something about wanting to play the full game of Slay the Princess? I only watch her RU-vid videos, so I'm not sure if she said something on stream. I'd love to see her play it but don't want to be annoying if she already commented on it.
The alarm bells went off when the "hero" thought when the princess was first in sight and the word structure of what the princess was saying after that.
Both Nichole and Jonathan are amazing in their respective shows, and really should be given more attention. As for this game, it feels like something right out of The Magnus Archives itself! Also, if you or anyone is interested, Jonathan Sims wrote a great horror book called "Thirteen Storeys". Have a read, if you can.
I swear you have some of the best taste. It seem like everytime i go to watch one of your videos or vods its always a cool/sweet/relaxing or interesting game. I'm not sure if it's your thing but there is a game on steam called Escape Simulator that you may like since you seem to like mystery/puzzle games. I haven't played it myself yet but it has positive reviews and looks fun
I just started watching your channel and i love your vidoes so much they’re exactly up my alley and your personality is so calm I absolutely love it. Im gonna enjoy watching you and relaxing whenever i feel stressed. Thank you for making wonderful content 😊
This dev team (Black Tabby Games!) is one of my faves just from Scarlet Hollow, but this is also excellent! I joined their discord months back before episode 3 released and I recommend everyone join it 😊
Good morning, it is 12:31 am here in the Philippines but I'll still watch your video because it is something I have never seen before. BB is as cute as always with the full affection in his eyes for you.
So we can hear the Narrator which means he is a character in the story and he is actually there. It would have been cool if the Princess could hear him too. Speaking of characters, I feel like they should have given the Voice of the Hero a different voice because he sounds very similar to the Narrator. I would not be surprised if it was the same person but the first couple times I heard Hero speak, I thought it was just the Narrator
I think the world might be the princess’ dream and that’s also why chapter 2 is called the nightmare and everything is strange and things fall apart on a conceptual level and everything leads to the cabin and the world ends when she “dies” This is not a complete or accurate theory, but I think it’s an interesting perspective. The voices are very important
This strongly reminds me of the AI Box Experiment by Eliezer Yudkowsky. It's based on the idea that a super intelligent but restricted AI could convince it's gatekeeper to release it to the world just through communication via text under 2 hours. Since we don't have such super AI tech yet, Yudkowsky played as the AI and sometimes was successful. He says that given enough time an AI would convince anyone to release it.
