HE'S DONE IT. Episode 80. Learned how to fight the thorny boys! Not Dual Wielding 0 cost Demon Form on the last fight is the most offensive thing I've seen you do.
It's definitely not as good as he thinks it is, but having one in your deck for the first floor will almost never lose you the run. Stacking them like he does will definitely lose you runs.
the little I played of the game, one cleave can be great. It helps do damage to mobs with alot of guys (3+) and it may carry NL through floor 1 and 2, but cleave is almost always trash against any the last bosses on floor 3. Its sort of good against the awaken but you should be able to just kill the birds at the start any ways. Donut boys are just better to have more single target to blow one up fast. TLDR: Cleave is good at mobs. Bad for Final boss.
@Jacky Zhou: Right? Isn't it basically 9 strength per turn for 1 energy? I've never played this game before, but I was pulling out my hair watching that.
Benji Youngman-lacey and think your turn through with ALL cards in hand. The bad thing isnthat he knows and sometimes he does but he is soneager to talk he just forgets it. I get it he wants to talk about stuff and its fine but it is really damaging his capability to win runs.
I felt like throwing my computer out the window on that last one. 9 str per turn would just make the win a cake walk but to be fair he won anyways. So he may not even realize how dumb that was.
Just some insight on what the misplay cost you: Not playing the demon form with dual wield against the final boss made you deal 138! less dmg summed up until the 4th turn... Probably even more considering the bonus from vulnerable..
This guy could have made the final boss his bitch had he dual wielded demon form then actually get 9 strength per turn. Still a great run dude. Keep it up
Endersteve it might be. Without double tap it is worse per energy spent than cleave. Also they both sorta suck. Edit: yes I get it, whirlwind can be insane with double tap, and a ton of energy. A card being broken for speed running doesn’t necessarily make it a universally good card. It still has a bad damage to energy ratio, it’s just that it can be exploited if you meet certain criteria. I get all of that. I just don’t think that a card that is insane once every 10 runs when you get 3 specific relics and the perfect card selections is necessarily a good card. Speed running and regular runs are different animals.
Whirling basically fit the same role as cleave, but better. It counters a lot of stuff and has synergy with a lot of relics, every 10 runs is crazy talk. Just as an example, whirling can enable those 3 attacks gain str/dex because even if you use it at 0 energy it counts as an attack. There are many other examples that would be to long to count them all.
Kappakappa duk he just makes so many mistakes that are almost hard to make, and I've only played like 6 hours of the game and I only started watching A few episodes of this yesterday.
I'm waiting for the day that NL is going to realize how the first act slimes' debuffs work. It hurts to hear him saying every single combat against the spiked one "I hope this guy doesn't weaked us"
I sheds tear every time you don't dual wield demon form. It's slow, yes, but not as slow as you think. 3 demon form+ is 9 strength a turn(I believe?) with bludgeon, in 2 turns, anything is dead.
At this point, I've just started watching until the first misplay that makes me go "OH MY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU"... then I go to see what the comments say about the misplays... and if one makes me do the same thing again, I turn the video off and go do something more productive with my time. I haven't watched a full Slay the Spire in weeks... but on the bright side, I've gotten all kinds of work done...
"Calipers are awesome." Says no man ever. Seriously, calipers are absolutely horrendous. I would prefer any other relic than Calipers. Its basically a "I'm a useful relic if you can consistently maintain above 15+the amount of damage you are going take in block." That is a stupendously high amount of block to get and keep hold of. Not to mentionthe block rolls over, so you better be able to increase your block as much the following turn.
HOW DOES HE NOT DUAL WIELD DEMON FORM? "Yeah I just feel like getting 9 attack so that any single attack can one-shot those minions is very good" god damnit egg
NL, I really don't see why you don't duplicate Demon Form, especially if you can get extra energy in that turn with Offering or something. Or dual wield a 0 energy bludgeon. It's just... there's no logical way that those weren't the best possible plays.
To anyone watching this late like I am, prepare for numerous painful misplays. He literally misplays turn one on both of his runs and it gets worse from there.
Halo79hi yeah I came here after watching Trump (Hearthstone player) playing a bit of slay the spire because NL uploads more daily. After seeing a 3 Part (total 3hr) run full of tactics and explanation this is really painfull. Watchable at first but after like the 30 Videos I watched it just gets really boring. Hopefully finding another youtuber for slay the spire :/ his isaacs vids are great tho
FredyIsHere I am not. I am fine with him talking and I am watching his Isaac videos although I dont really ukderdtand what he is doing but I am here to not cringe out because he is so zoned out he does mistakes he normally would not do. I hate this sloppiness in his spire videos. In isaac he has the skill to back off this slack and still manage to have interesting background gameplay but in spire.... the game is not flashy, random or mechanically pleasing enough that he can play like this. I am not here solely for gameplay but I am here for a NL plays. Not a NL talks while doing random shit in the background
BK ́s little World Then if you dislike his Spire videos don't watch them and stick to the other ones ( not hating just pointing out that if you don't enjoy it then there's no need to drag yourself over the course of the video).
"whirling might be better" when talking about cleave, the understatement of the century. Whirling basically win you most floor 1-2 trash fights with some str.
42:33 NL this was just bad play. You could have either triple demon formed (that is 9 str a turn, which is just a crushing amount). or at least triple clothesline to do some good damage and remove all the protection. You drafted duel wield for turns like this. That is why I'm very dishearted to see you misses either of these plays.
45:08 Again just copy the bludgon that is free. its better then carnage+ and you get two of them. NL why do you draft something that works so well but then totally forget about it.
Yes he made some misplays (as I often do here and there), but he made some smart plays this run. He used the ancient potion against the 10-damage-per-turn debuff guy (I never considered it before I heard about it from someone else) and had some nice dual wield + carnage/bludgeon plays. Props Ryan. I greatly enjoy watching you play even when I own the game myself.
The misplay at 35:00 made me actually want to unsubscribe. Plays a 1 energy demon form without dual wielding it, then proceeds to use dual wield on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING just so it doesnt get exhausted. Just wow.
Papa John go back and watch it again, that was actually one of the smarter plays this run. He only took 1 damage and ended up killing it the very next turn, so copying the Demon Form would've been completely unnessecary
Err... luckier plays, but it still ended up working out. It was very improbable that the fight would have lasted long enough to warrant investing in a triple Demon Form.
not what op was talking about but he could have even duplictaed deamonform and then exhausted two compies of it for extra block without wasting his precious dual wield... or just exhaust dual wield because he cant use it well anyways
Once again going to disagree with the general consensus: each time NL chose not dual-wield demon-form, it was on a fight that went by very fast, meaning that the value of dual-wielding demon-form was not very high.
At 45:00 i physically screamed "DUAL WIELD YOU MANIAC" Also the amount of elite dodging in the 3rd floor every single run is starting to get boring. Even when he has an insane deck he dodges every single time. Good run tho.
The duel wield thing was really pissing me off. But ill defend the elite dodging a bit. Yes its boring but like Mice C said, the one Elite that reduce damage to 1 for 2 out of 3 turns is very dangerous. So why would he risk a run when you already have a deck that can win. I personally feel like elites on the third floor are never worth it (at least on the patch NL is on). I only suggest going for them if your deck is weak and you need the relic really bad.
27:37 the first thing b4 playing your 0 cards was to decide if you were gonna play armanents. If u played arnanents first u wouldvd taken 0 damage and had an upgrade strike and defeend in your deck.
34:55 Really? Not duel wield, then demon form twice? Or Demon form, duel wield then second wind to get 20 block, and save duel wield? Also it seems like he didn't read and realise Dual wield adds the card to the deck. Even if you can't play it that turn it'll cycle round you know...
He thinks playing a FREE Dual Wield+ on a ONE COST Demon Form+ on the first turn of an elite fight is a "funny play" that is "not actually as good as it looks"? Yeah, fuck gaining NINE strength EVERY turn... Holy shit. I thought about skipping ahead, but if this is still his thinking on episode 80, the egg probably never learns...
I cant watch this videos from start to finish without rage quitting my self, he is so dumb, misses every good combo, makes every turn a missplay, what the hell is he doing?
Hooseki Gaming i use to never get annoyed at his misplays but they are so fucking bad lately it’s killing me. You’d think by now he’d learn how to play better
