I really think reviewers are really missing the trick to this game. It is Slay the Spire the board game and it is as fun to play as Slay the Spire the digital game. It has been well received by all the play groups I have introduced it to and none of these people have ever heard of Slay the Spire and would 100 percent not sit down in front of a screen to play slay the spire on the computer. If you remember how it felt to find combos and learn a character for the first time in Slay the Spire on the computer, I have seen that same enthusiasm with my play groups towards the board game. This is a good game, and the comparison to the video game should not take away from how fun it is to play it.

@@rahdo I think many reviews including this one has really keyed into the fact there is a really good video game that this game came from, but I think relating the board game adaptation back to its source material does not really give justice to how engaging and interesting the puzzle of this game is.

ah, i think it's incredibly important to draw parallels because a LOT of viewers are going to come to this video because of their familiarity with the original videogame, and will be wanting to know "why should i care about this when i already have the video game"? :)

OH! I love the game. The pace could be a bit faster IMO, like it feels the "gameplay to upkeep" ratio is a bit high I think, but its definitely awesome to share the exact same feeling you get from the excellent digital game but with friends. And, once everybody around the table knows the drill we "share" the upkeep work as well, so it's not that bad. Oh, and concerning the path/track, I've check real quick and in the digital game it seems it's around 15 "nodes" to the boss (not sure it's always the same) where in the boardgame (at least for act I), it's 12. So, you are right, it is shorter but not by much. Anyway, thanks for the playthrough and final tought Shea, it's greatly appreciated.

I agree with your thoughts here, the coop is a very fun element and the adaptation is faithful yet streamlined.

There are some very good reasons for making a video game version of a board game, but not many reasons for turning a video game into a board game. The main reason to buy a physical copy is for the satisfaction of looking at the box on the board game shelf.

oh i couldn't disagree more strongly. video games can't hold a candle to the quality of experience that boardgames can deliver in terms of shared experience with the people i love (and i say this as someone who designed videogames for 20 years of my life). i would never bother to play the videogame version of slay the spire because it's to me it's a hollow and empty activity, but i'm super excited to play the boardgame version with my wife, and share that fun with her :)

@@rahdo I kind of echo this reasoning. Kind of. I really like the video game, but its not something my wife would play with me because technically its not coop unless you use a mod. But we played the board game and she really enjoyed it. I get my slay the spire fix and I can spend time with my wife.

@@rahdoBit harsh calling the video game ‘hollow and empty.’ I enjoy both video games and board games, and Slay the Spire is an excellent and challenging video game.
