Kerry king is awesome but he is very methodical in his playing. Eddie van Van Halen is like that too. They are both very good at what they do but it has to be something that they have written themselves.
Well he just posted on his Instagram the other day that skynyrd are the greatest American Rock band of all time. So its probably safe to assume he knows quite a few of them.
@@90s267 now who’s the pissed off one? It’s not easy, it’s just not hard. It has all of the tricks of the trade when it comes to pentatonic. So it’s not hard to lock in on the phrases.
If anyone knows Slayer, they ALWAYS perform some off the wall song for their soundchecks. Been doing it for decades. It is always a different genre each show, I saw them do Summer of 69.
Gary Holt, Tom Araya, Alex Skolnick, and what I assume to be Paul Bostaph. That's a crazy fuckin' line up right there. (Exodus, Slayer, Testament, Forbidden all in one, playing Free Bird!!!!)
Paul Bostaph is such a cool & humble guy… and he holds down a damn tight rhythm section.. sure, his double kick isn’t as solid as it used to be in the 90s.. but probably neither is Lombardo or any other drummer for that matter.
What some people don't know is when Slayer formed they met with Jeff and Jeff was playing in a band that did Southern rock and covers by Molly Hatchet, etc. So even though Jeff has been gone, this doesn't surprise me. Who doesn't know Free Bird??
MIDDLEFINGER to those that don't like this . away from slayer at home in his car he listens to LYNYRD SKYNYRD that's why he played this song so a big MIDDLEFINGER to the ones that dislike this
Back in the day, while been already a thrash kid, I got into bands like ZZTop, Allman Bros, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and stuff, that's when Lynyrd Skynyrd became one of my favorite bands ever. This jam is like experiecing one of those strange but satisfying dreams.
Thing is, most people can't just stick with one genre. Life would be boring then. I was a kid in the 70's, turning 13 in 1980. Was raised by my young parents who listened to, what is now, classic rock. Grew up a headbanger through my teens, loved new wave and even whatever dance music was called back then. Still a heavy duty headbanger, and the only music I don't really like is the "manufactured" pop garbage with the auto tune voices that are so BLAHHHHH! Still lots of great music coming out!
Oh man this is too funny! It is cool to see these guys just jamming’ out. I am a huge fan of both of these bands and love this song as well. On their last tour these guys would always jam out for sound check. Rock on thanks for the upload 🤟🤟🤟
He knows his instrument, Ill give him that, and Ive been a Testament fan for years and have seen him play in his other projects live. But feeling /soul lacks in his sound ,its all technical, almost like someone who can copy, and that’s fine. Read his book too, kind of up his own ass. He’s still attractive though and an odd cat. It is what it is.
I saw Lynrd Skynd play Free Bird live and it was mind blowing. One of the coolest concert performances I've EVER f--cking seen. I've seen Slayer shows too and their right up there with Free Bird.
I was expecting from Tom something more like a "won't you fly hiiiiigggghh FREEEE BIIIIRRRRDDDDD AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"
i give slayer 100 percent i always crank this song up slayer has always been one of my favorite hard rock heavy metal thrash metal bands rest in peace jeff
+Ishbu 101 You say 30 years ago Slayer would never do a Skynyrd cover! Well 39 years ago they did a Iron Butterfly cover of in-a-gadda-da-vida. Which totally rocked!
I had a friend that worked one of their shows tell me they played a crazy selection of old radio hits, including some R&B stuff during their soundcheck but I can't remember any song names other than it sounded weird that Slayer would play them but only during their soundcheck.
Gary Holt is a class act. You can see how he loves playing music, regardless of what it is, he just loves being up there playing guitar and having an amazing time. Holt, is King - no he owns King! Haha.
Simonize41 yes he does the old guitar battles between Mr Style ( Gary Holt ) and Mr. Speed( Rick Hunolt ) in Exodus were classics, Hunolt was and is much faster than Gary , Gary had more solos but we're much slower compared to Rick's
nameless76 mozwhaz No prob! And yes I was talking about. Especially reliving Dime fans that the end solo on Goddamn Electric was not dime, because of how (comparatively) bad it was
slayer, exodus, testament on the same stage. maybe tom WAS telling the truth that the only reason he didn't jam w/ big 4 was he doesn't care for "am i evil". this is probably better than that anyway. he sounds like he's barely trying but his ronnie van zant vocal sounds decent. if they practiced this it could sound real good.
Correction. One guy from Forbidden ( drums) One guy from Exodus ( guitar) One guy from Testament (guitar) One guy from Slayer (bass/vocals) Playing Freebird...but not very seriously because sound check
