Slayer Hell Awaits Reaction!! 

Solos in Slayer are meant to be chaotic. Both guitar players do solos, Hanneman and King, usually they duel in songs. I love solos from both of them, fit the "Slayer style" perfectly.

Old school Slayer was a big influence on death and black metal that came in the late 80s and early 90s. They were really ahead in terms of extreme music.

I'm not religious, but I hope you guys understand that Slayer's basic point is to illustrate the problem of evil; they're not actually Satanists or any similar nonsense. They never were. Tom's even a Catholic.

I dont think Slayer has ever been satanic. To me its more like.. "Well, society is demanding that I be christian, and pray for the angels, etc... You know what Im gonna talk about? Demons and satan, etc.." Its like non-conformity on what society demands.

Don't read too much into the lyrics. Much like Venom, it was purely for entertainment and a gimmick in the early days and still is on some level. For them it was all about how fast and heavy they could get within the boundaries of thrash metal

Back in my Senior year of High School, I used to drive to church blasting this album. I was a bad Christian.

"Like I was watching a horror film" is the entire intent of Slayer. Always keep that in mind when listening.

Try At Dawn They Sleep, same album. It's about Dracula and his bloodsucking minions.

The riff that begins at 4:04 is a typical black metal riff that would eventually become a staple in 90's Norwegian Black Metal. Everything, from the guitar tone to the picking style and the selection of notes, it's all black metal sounding.

OG Slayer releases up until Seasons just can't be fucked with. Pure art The riffs, the lyrics, the drumming, the imagery and the atmosphere is just legendary. I saw the original lineup at least 5 or 6 times before Hanneman passed. Even met them all a few times. One of the greats forever man

While you're on Slayer - the Antichrist was a good "shock value" song that they did early on. Another band to consider would be Mercyful Fate's early stuff with King Diamond - "The Oath" or "Come to the Sabbath" would be my favourites from that period, but there's a whole bunch of good ones there ("Desecration of Souls", "Black Funeral", "Satan's Fall", "A Dangerous Meeting", and "Into the Coven" - which was one of the songs listed by the PMRC when they were pushing for warning labels on music).

I'm a Christian and my friend is a atheist and we love SLAYER and GHOST. Tom has to be my favorite member of SLAYER and he's catholic. Hell Awaits was my first SLAYER album

If you want more Slayer I'd say Angel of Death, or South of Heaven

Hell Awaits is an interesting choice. Araya's vocals are unique on this song/album compared to the rest of their work - very fast and harsh. When they wrote this album they were heavily influenced by Mercyful Fate and focused on more occult/religious themes along with longer songs. I think they were still finding the classic Slayer sound. The next album is when they really defined their style. Would have preferred Slayer - Angel of Death but I am sure that will come soon.

I've been hesitant to say this because I do enjoy your channel and will continue to do so but one thing that bothers me is a pattern I've noticed that in most of your videos these days the videos are roughly 30 minutes and in that time there's maybe 5 minutes of actual music reaction and the rest is discussion often barely related to the song at hand. Now I like hearing your takes on different things as you have an interesting, informed, and intelligent perspective. But I thought this was a channel about reaction to specific songs. It seems almost like a song is chosen to get us here and then the discussion is mostly about something maybe loosely related but not really all that much about the song you've chosen. Like I said I'm not going anywhere but I do wish you could focus on the songs directly a little more and what you like or don't like about them from your perspective and maybe save some of the other musings for another time and place. Sorry to be negative because I do like and appreciate what you're doing but I wanted to add my two cents on how I'm seeing the channel.

OMFG!!! I never clicked so fast!! My FAVE album of theirs by far.. Though when I was growing up it was all about Reign in Blood but now that I'm older I love Hell Awaits, more :D

These early songs were so influential on the music that followed. Like others have said it’s all entertainment. As Tom Araya is a devout catholic. As for Kerry he solos just so people won’t forget about him since Jeff was the superior guitarist and song writer as he wrote all of Slayers most memorable songs! RIP to Jeff, and go SLAYER!!!! currently on their retirement tour.

Don't forget this is an exploration of an idea. They like to explore dark possibilities in their lyrics, and you mustn't take everything at face value. As you have noticed in other videos reviewing them, their lyrics have many layers and can be interpreted in different ways. It's best to dig deep with this band's words and not be misled by the imagery. Realize the topics they discus are in many cases not declarations of their own views, but rather describing 'What if?" situations.

7:39 That's how the instrumental intro should make you feel, Sori. It's *_very_* dark before there are any lyrics at all. I think there are 5 different guitar riff patterns at the beginning before the lyrics start. I think the beginning of the song is comparable to how the self-titled Black Sabbath songs hits you the first time you hear it.

I fall asleep listening to this song every night. When I die I don't want any hymns sung at my funeral just a few Slayer songs played with this being one of them.

Hell Awaits, sinners. Such a straight up diabolical record. Crank it up and you can smell the sulfur. I imagine Old Scratch, Lucifer Morningstar, at the mixing board, wisps of smoke coming off his fingers, smiling at the band. "Yes, this is acceptable to me. You've done well. Now, gentlemen, if you will just sign here."

I love you guys People keep getting you to listen to song to watch you freak a bit. Slayer is not satanic Dave Lombardo said in an interview that the reason they have all the satanic stuff was to quit playing garages and play clubs. We can go down the line of different religions and gods the became before Christianity and we can point out oden who died on a tree who sacrificed to himself who was pierced at his side who bled water and blood. Osiris said he was the way the truth and life. Mithra died for sins. Mithra said eat and drink of his blood. Same concept of the lords supper. Christianity stole from religions and stories hundreds of years older. But yet somehow Christianity is the truth lol. The jews dont believe in a hell or satan cause the old testament makes no mention of hell or suffering after death. Early, early Slayer has alot of hardcore punk influences. Especially if you listen to Tom's vocal style here you can hear (and he would later confirm this, in fact doing covers at one point) Minor Threat in alot the verses. Love the riffs in this song. Production is pretty terrible though. Vin is still going in hard with that Kerry King, Reign in Blood solo hate. I think he is gonna die on that hill at this point :D 7/10 for me. But honestly Slayer is great and all but how about some love for the other great thrash bands to come out of that scene (arguably better musicians) Exodus and Testament? Here's two for you Exodus-Funeral Hymn (some of the best thrash riffs of all time and a killer solo) Testament-The New Order (insane soloing throughout and killer riffs to boot.

God is the true demon that keeps man under his strict control, Lucifer was gods most beloved Angel and when Lucifer saw the crimes God was inflicting on his creation he tried to over throw heaven to give man freedom of choice and not to be enslaved by God. God is jealous and does not want man to take anyone before him so his only action was to rid the heavens of any opposition to his way of controlling man. What if Lucifer is the good guy and the wrong person won in the battle for heaven? God has killed more people in the bible than Lucifer could ever imagine in fact I don't think there is one story in the bible where t Lucifer kills man. Religion is the number one killer in the world all wars are fought over religious beliefs. Just as all mythology it is time to move on from this story and wake up to the truth. How can intelligent intelligent people actually believe in an invisible person in the sky and all the other myths in the bible? Just take the story of noah, no way that could have happened, first of all all the food that would have been needed just to feed the meat eating animals for that amount of time is ridiculous. Once the water receded all the carnivores would have eaten all the other animals in months. Any way love hearing mythology compared to music

If you want to hear something very different, check out Zeal and Ardor. They blend two unlikely genres of music beautifully. They blend the American slave/ chain gang music with black metal and some Muse. I recommend the song Row Row Row off their album "Stranger Fruit" that has just been released like two weeks ago. Its a really good album in general. A great follow up to "Devil is Fine."

I don't know about Kerry, but Tom the singer has come out and said he was Catholic. It's like Sori said, Slayer is like horror stories. The evil, die hard bands were that second wave of Black Metal. Burzum, Mayhem, Emperor etc etc .
