He does a fine job here but these aren't perfect renditions of the original tracks. Slayer are obviously rather discerning in their judgement and didn't see a fit with Talley. I honestly think it was just a matter of Kevin Talley being himself (as he should) and NOT just emulating Lombardo spot on. Paul Bostaph is a machine and plays the songs note-for-note EVERY time and I think that's what Slayer was after. If they can't have Dave then plug in Paul and nothing's lost (to the ears at least). In the end, Slayer really only ever wanted Dave on drums he left for his own reasons (more than once). No matter. I think that Kevin Talley would have been great for Slayer. R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman
Paul Bostaph CAN NOT play those songs note for note and had to slow down. He can't even do the double bass part right, when I saw them live Paul messed that up so bad. One of the worst metal drummers ever and shouldn't even have been considered.
you're right, kevin appears to be playing the songs correctly but he isn't doing all the lombardo crap, and thats what they wanted to hear. Keven being kevin. I'm sure he cou'dve pulled the fills off of course. Maybe they didn't make clear to him thats what they wanted. guy is good though. slayer is slow compared to other work he's done.
@@bmw_m4255 Paul DID NOT do a good job with Slayer and it was very clear he barely knew what he was doing. He has to SLOW down the songs because he can't keep up, Lombardo can still play full speed. Kevin had the flare and energy Slayer needed and would've been a perfect fit, his fills and everything bring to the table that Slayer needed.
This is really cool to watch and it's just a matter of opinion who is better, because Dave couldn't play Paul's drum parts correctly either, actually check him out playing the song Ditto Head with them, he messes up big time. But that's not the point the point is these are incredibly hard songs to play and any drum that has to play them night after night has their work cut out for them.
Kevin cymbals we're just a bit to high here- & his Bass drums a little to far away from him. He doesn't look entirely comfortable- and his working harder then he has to when striking the cymbals. I'm sure with a few more weeks of practice- & some minor adjustments to his drum kit- Kevin would have been a perfect fit for Slayer. But Kerry already knew who was going tobe there next drum in line 🥁 long before this audition. So even if Kevin was spot on perfect in playing through ever Slayer song- he still would have been turned down in favor of Paul regardless.
Dude,,,,,he's probebly shitting himself just trying to hold it together!!,, Especially for a young pup,,,he's kicking fucking ass,,,,,his nerves are no doubt, about to blow!! He's good,,,,but he just didn't fit the Slayer mold ,,,astetically,,,,among other things....dude can play in my band any day!!!!666.6 ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
