One of the most metal things I have ever seen at a Slayer concert was a guy in a wheelchair crowd surfing. He was held up right in front of Tom A when the curtain fell at the start of the show. Tom was all smiles
That intro still gives me the chills. The brilliance of Slayer is the brutality of the lyrics. On the SLAYER scale of brutal lyrics, this songs comes in about 6. After the last line, it actually transitioned to the song Black Magic. LYRICS: Trapped in purgatory A lifeless object alive Awaiting reprisal Death will be their acquitance Sky is turning red Return to power draws near Fall unto me the sky's crimson tears Abolish the rules made of stone Pierced from below Souls of our treacherous past Betrayed by many Now ornaments dripping above Awaiting the hour of reprisal Your time slips away Raining blood From a lacerated sky Bleeding its horror Creating my structure Now I shall REIGN IN BLOOD
Seeing Slayer live was always an experience. The mosh pits were insane. I took my nephew to see them for his 18th birthday. It was his first real concert. He lost a shoe in the pit, and we went to go look for it as everyone cleared out after, and someone totally swiped it. He's got boats for feet and he was wearing red shoes. It would have stood out amongst the garbage, lol. Someone took a random large, red shoe as a souvenir 😂
Thank you for reacting to this live 1991 version with Black Magic, it's one of my all-time favorites, they really killed it here. There was a little left to go also. This tour was my first Slayer experience with the Clash of the Titans.
I saw SLAYER live in 2010 at Sonisphere open air in Knebworth in England before Jeff Hanneman passed away. They were exactly like they are on the album which is great if you’re a fan ha ha😂
So... this was a combination of Raining Blood and Black Magic. The end part of Raining blood typically goes into a chaotic lead. However... in this live version... they lead into the beginning of another song called Black Magic. Just an FYI...
Slayer is one of those bands where it's probably best to listen to their studio recording first. The only song of theirs I can think of where you should listen to an official video of theirs is War Ensemble.
I've been to many Slayer concerts. You picked a very good live version of the song. To me they always sounded the best with the original members. Lombardo's drumming can't be beat and neither can Jeff's guitar. While I spent a good deal of time in the pit. The one thing that happened I didn't expect was some asshole took a razor blade and was cutting people. I got cut in the head "I couldn't even feel it at the time".
When I seen Slayer in 06 the pit wasn't too bad, there were like 14 year old kids in there with us and stuff, I got a bloodied lip from an elbow but really not that bad lol
More funny is when those people thought that Pop was the ONLY music genre in the World ! Einstein was right when he said that the Universe is endless but Ignorance and Stupidity are far away from it end !
Always love seeing people hear the all mighty Slayer for the first time. If you continue exploring this awesome band, you will undoubtedly get to what is arguably the greatest Thrash song ever recorded - Angel of Death. If you do react to this song please, PLEASE, I beg of you, do NOT react to a live version. PLEASE!! While the live versions do have a charm of their own, too much of the power and brutality of the song gets lost. Do yourself a huge favor. Prepare yourself, strap yourself in and do the studio version. That's the only way to go.
If you want something a bit slower but also a lot groovier, check out South of Heaven or any song on that album. If you want speed, check out Dittohead or Angel of Death. Angel of Death is about Joseph Mengele and the atrocities he committed
If you want to check out a brilliantly entertaining drum solo please check out "Neil Peart Drum Solo - Rush Live in Frankfurt" you won't be disappointed.
next ? South of heaven ? Seasons in the abyss ? angel of death ? hell awaits ? repentless ? so much to choose from.. but if you want real Thrash metal greatness you will have to try "Destruction"... today destruction replaced the softcooked metallica in the big 4 of thrash
O would agree to call Slayer the kings of Trash metal, bands like Metallica goes on many other genres of metal then trash, the older Metallica stuff surely being most trash metal like, but Slayer is mainly just pure trash metal, thats why they are kings of this genre, and they are good at that genre to.
