Dave is going so much harder than the rest of the band in this song tbh and it's awesome. Dave wont put up with this "Metallica-ballad-tempo" and keeps egging them on to go faster.
Lombardo absolutely hardcarried this song and the other members were still amazing. It is just straight up amazing how good his drums in this song are.
I had heard of Slayer, but this was the song and album where I discovered them. I bought it and to this day I can listen to it beginning to end. One of the greatest albums ever, and not just in metal. Near perfect.
I was at an acid party the first time I heard SLAYER, this album, tripping my balls off. I was still in high school. I went out and bought Seasons in the Abyss the next day, and been a huge SLAYER fan ever since. I've seen them numerous times and wearing my Reign in Blood tee as we speak. I have their sword pentagram logo tattoo on my back.
They have some more laid back, sometimes melodic songs (for Slayer) on the album Seasons in the Abyss like the title track, Skeletons of Society and Dead Skin Mask (song about serial killer Ed Gein) but they also have one of their most brutal and fastest songs War Ensemble. Personally Seasons in the Abyss is my favorite Slayer album.
For me it's south of heaven before when I use to wrestle the crooked cross going into mandatory suicide was my warm up music by the time I hit the mat I was ready to rip someone a new one lol
I had the chance to meet the Drummer Dave Lombardo for a few days. I was the "running boy" in the studio during the rehearsals when he did a tour with "Phillip Boa and the Voodoocult" back in the 90s. Fantastic drummer, and a totally chill guy, always friendly and polite, no "I'm the big Rockstar"-attitude at all.
I remember back in the day (90s) when going to all these bands concerts there was like a debate amongst fans at the time and that was who is the loudest band in concert. Slayer was the clear winner, your ears would ring for more days after a slayer concert than any other lol they all made your ears ring though. I remember going to school for days after a concert and not being able to hear anything in classes 😆 You should totally do Sepultura "Dead embryonic cells", Sepultura had the best drummer ever.
Motorhead in a small club in Birmingham was by far the loudest concert I went to... but, of the 90s concernts I went to Slayer were definitely an assault on the senses 😎
This was Slayer's most honest attempt at a radio hit... This is Slayers Enter Sandman. I honestly thought they might actually make it but MTV couldn't get over the title... They even look pretty 😂
Ah yes, title track off what I feel is their best album of the 80s era. Seriously epic, this one. It's been years since I read the lyrics, and I forgot how articulate Tom Araya is. I remember the first time I read them and thinking "wow, that's actually what he said". Being able to accurately sing along to a metal song of this era was quite a novelty.
If only Slayer was like this instead of sticking to the serial killer theme and whatnot all the time. Not that it's bad, but some changes would be nice.
When I was 16 years old, I had just purchased the previous album, South of Heaven, and I joined a band practicing literally on the other side of wall from these guys, and Jeff (RIP) used to sit on mt car and drink beer... good times!!!
This is my 2nd favorite Slayer song behind "South of Heaven". There's an amazing mash-up of this song and Wham! "Carless Whisper". You should check it out, it's pure genius.
Bill McClintock, absolutely hilarious stuff. That Marilyn Manson/Mariah Carey mash-up ('All I Want For Christmas Is The Beautiful People') is a holiday classic. Well, for me anyway.
Of course Slayer is Slayer, there's no superlatives left to describe them🤘...but listen to Bisscute is also a pretty irresistible experience! The cutest accent! Every time you cast a spell 😍
Yes, probably their slowest album. But slow fortunately doesn't equal less heavy. Reign in Blood was more like being run over by a race car, while this record ist more like being hit by a truck.
One of my favorite Slayer songs. The slow buildup, the killer riffs, the creepy lyrics...a metal masterpiece. Yes, slower for the band by that point in their career...many decried it as too slow, but I think it's every bit as dark as we're used to Slayer being, just slowed down somewhat. It's still awesome metal. Dead Skin Mask from this album is the next best one. South of Heaven, the previous album, is great too: the title track itself, then the very fast one it bleeds into 2nd, Silent Scream, are the 2 best there, savage metal.
After the "ultimate thrash metal song", Necrophobic*, from the 1986 album Reign In Blood, I think they wanted to play a few songs where the fans could at least theoretically sing along. * Two verses, three choruses and a guitar solo in 1'38".
I love watching your videos when you watch SLAYER you make me laugh especially on the rain in blood one I loved your reactions 🙂❤️ But you really discovered Slayer in our time? Because most of us Listen since their debut and I'll give you one Little information Slayer and appeared with their title "Chemical Warfare" On a cassette called "Métal massacre" if you find this version you are really a champion 😉👍 In any case I remain a real fan of this group that I followed from their beginning And I cried when I attended their farewell concert, it really felt like a loss From a member of my family it's a blessing to them that I learned the guitar from the age of 7 And that I continue to have a career! 🤘🏻 Continue your videos on SLAYER And to make me laugh with your reactions and comments YOU HAVE A REAL FAN!! And welcome to the big family of slayer fans 🙂🌹🤘🏻🤘🏻 Kisses from France 🇨🇵 🏴☠️ ❤ Kisses miss 🙂🙂🌹
This song is slower as it's the last song of the album (also called Seasons In The Abyss) because all the speed was used up in songs like War Ensemble and Hallowed Point. That's my theory anyways. This song was my introduction to Slayer. I was sleeping over a friend's house back in 1990 and his parents let us stay up and watch MTV's Saturday night at Midnight show: Headbanger's Ball. This song was debuted that night and we were Slayer fans from that night on.
This is one of my favorite personal Slayer covers I enjoy playing while at band practice, especially the clean part, eerie but, fun. This was Slayer was younger and getting into their prime. They always put in a killer show! They disappoint! 🥂☠️🤘
Listen to the song WAR ENSEMBLE (the official video) from the same album Seasons in the Abyss.. The slowest and most melodic Slayer song is Spill The Blood from South of Heaven
I first heard this song on KBPI (famouns Denver, Colorado rock station) in the summer of 1991 when I was in High school. Heard it about 11pm at night during a summer thunder storm in the Colorado rockies. Forever changed my life! An amazing record and so good.
Someone said your were Romanian so I came here to follow. Great song choice too! 🤘🏼🟦🟨🟥 Edit: This is one of my favorite Slayer songs, I think too much of faster their stuff sounds identical. Might catch some hate for saying this but there's bands that do the "Slayer sound" better now, so songs like these end up being Slayers gems imo
Drums on this one are absolutely insane on this one !!! A different register of the multiverse of Slayer. Of you want more speed please react to ‘Silent Scream’
Have seen these guys three times here in Vancouver Canada. They are the only concert I have attended where my ears rang after for a few days. SLAY-ERRR!!!!
that's a good slayer album, I bought that on cassette when it came out, cd's weren't very common I was still building a tape collection back then. I'd like to add the cassettes were a royal pain and I don't miss them at all.
….as far as slower Slayer songs, check out the whole “South of Heaven” album, especially the title track, “Live Undead”, “Silent Scream”, Behind the Crooked Cross” & “Spill the Blood”….they redefine the word “ominous”….🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Mom wanted to know the music I listen to. I introduced her to this song, not wanting to shock her too much. She was bored. I was pissed. I then showed her War Ensemble from the same album. She wasn´t bored any more.
R.I.P.. JEFF HANNEN..... another song you should listen to is "SOUTH OF HEAVEN" it's close to what you hear now. Keep rocking girl big devil horns to you \M/ \M/!!!
Back in 2001 when I was still new to metal I saw this video on tv and needed more. Went to the local record store and looked through the Slayer section but new nothing about them and couldnt remember the name of the song. So I just picked a random album. My first Slayer album was Undisputed Attitude, and for those who dont know its a cover album and is considered by most, me included, as the worst Slayer album. One thing I miss after record stores got extinct, the surprise when you pick up a random album and dont know if you found a gem or something you will never listen to again.
I love this album. The songwriting is the best of any Slayer album up to that point. It's more appealing, less cacophany but still thrashy and evil and still heavy. But it's also more technically advanced if that makes sense, even though they slowed down some they got more creative and used more fills and so on. Slayer managed to make a more commercially appealing, technical album without selling out their core sound like some other bands did
I remember seeing them live in Brisbane Australia in about 1998 , what a sick concert that was. One of the loudest concerts I have ever been to. I swear my ears were still ringing the next day LOL
This song was my gateway to Slayer after seeing it on Beavis and Butt-Head. I had tried to listen to them before, but never liked them (which is pretty much how all of my favorite bands happen).
I think a more accurate term would be "accessable" than "slow". This is the most accessable Slayer song as "Return To Serenity" is Testament's most accessable song. The tempo doesn't make it less heavy; just makes it more inviting for first time listeners. Great for turning people onto Slayer. But if you also wanted to turn people onto Testament, you wouldn't start with "Fall Of Sipledome". It's Dave Lombardo's best drumming period ... and you have to ease people into a song like that! 😅
First time I heard this song from Slayer back in the 90's I was just as surprised as you, but I also thought it was amazing how they can flow on the speed highway at any pace they want without losing their essence, being the type of band they've always been and taking the risk... it just went perfect! so "risk" is now just a word in the sentence to help you understand "risk" was, for this album, inexistant.
Agreed I saw them with ogent orange at the Columbia armory that was standroom only general admission it was sick saw them like 5 or 6 time after throughout the years
This music video was actually shot in Egypt (not a Hollywood set!) ... Slayer's producer/ label head Rick Rubin came up w/ the idea of making the 'Seasons in the Abyss' video w/ the backdrop of Ancient Egypt, and flew the band there... (Of course, no one knew who they were in Egypt in 1990...) The album became one of Slayer's most successful as the band toured constantly in 1991, culminating in the 'Thrash of the Titans' tour w/ Megadeth & Anthrax (Alice In Chains was the opening band). Yes, the song is a bit laid back for a Slayer track, but it's one of their most popular... (late guitarist) Jeff Hanneman would contribute music that had a 'haunting' sonic element like 'Seasons in the Abyss'... even though Slayer were famous for their frantic, extreme metal 🔥🤘🤘 Some other examples would be - 'Dead skin mask'... '213'... 'Spill the blood'... 'Overt enemy'...
I got to see Slayer live four times with and without both Dave and Jeff, and I'll tell you now, either way, it was an incredible experience and I'm grateful to have seen them before they retired. The last show I saw was only a year after Jeff passed away, and the whole show was a tribute to him. It was amazing! Hearing this song live is awesome!
This video was on heavy rotation on MTV when it came out. No wonder: it'a a fantastic video to an epic song, certainly one of their best, if not THE best Slayer song (just my opinion). And Dave Lombardo goes completely off the chain here. To me he's not only the best (modern) metal drummer that ever existed, but also one of the best drummers ever, comparable to the likes of Keith Moon (The Who), Neil Peart (Rush) or John Bonham (Led Zeppelin).
