Being a long haired metal kid in the 80s and 90s was rough. Laughed at saying our music was just loud garbage noise. Here we are in 2020s with the help of react videos everyone else is starting to feel what we have been enjoying for so long. Understanding just how good it really is. They are all very talented. Thank you for giving the genre the love it deserves.

Oh. Trust me, I know. They got a shitload of jams. Just thought I'd throw some a few gems out for starters. And ones that I think would ease them into them. Basically, every song off their first 6 albums is a jam. Show No Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, etc. I actually like pretty much their whole catalog, but I'm a die hard Slayer fan. I kist like their older stuff better. Their stuff before Divine Intervention. Of course, I grew up on Slayer. And I play guitar, amongst other things, so I love that shit. 😆🤘

Regarding your questioning at the end of the video: Observing the sky was their only distraction. The mathematicians of the time were far from stupid. Aligning pebbles with the stars only requires elementary geometry, a stick and a rope are sufficient for the paths. For the stones: there were quarries, others were brought by boat on the river, some are limestone, much less heavy than those at the base. Then, the workforce was substantial; and there is a wide range of tools. Never underestimate the know-how of engineers, whatever the era! And don't forget that they were working for their deities; it motivates a lot.

Slayer's 'Seasons in the Abyss' was their first music video, filmed at the Giza Plateau in Giza, Egypt - I read somewhere they paid Egyptian authorities in cartons of cigarettes to be able to film near the Pyramids. The album was recorded from March to June 1990 in two separate studios: Hit City West, Hollywood Sound, and Record Plant in Los Angeles, California, and produced by Rick Rubin. The album was eventually released on Oct 9, 1990.

[Comment 1 of 2] Thrash has a very interesting story with a lot of connections between different artists and bands. The genre is typically described as hardcore heavy metal music with has tempos and often features fast chugging riffs and tremolo. It's debatable where Thrash truly started. it's predecessor, Speed Metal has it's roots in Deep Purple and some credit the first Thrash song to Queen's Stone Cold Crazy from 1974. The first band to really pioneer Thrash was likely Venom whom also pioneered Black Metal. They became major influencers of the bands coming into the genre. The first of the big acts was Metallica, formed in Los Angeles but later moved to San Francisco where the Thrash scene really started and grew, specifically in the Bay area. Their music was largely a response to the overly popular Glam Metal scene in LA that they despised with passion. Before getting big, they had guitarist Dave Mustane and bassist Ron McGovney. Ron left because he couldn't get along with Dave and drummer Lars Ulrich so they recruited Cliff Burton from the band Trauma whom had gained some critical success for a short period before then. Shortly before gaining a good record deal, they fired Dave Mustaine because of his drug and alcohol abuse. While the rest would also get drunk, he was the only one to get violent when drinking. Afterwards, Kirk Hammett replaced him and then they released their debut Kill Em All in July 1983, of which had several of Mustaine's contributions. He was sent home on a bus, angered and planning something to spit back. Later that year, another band from Huntington Park, CA was just getting their start. A band whose sound was darker and more dissonant, covering more intense themes such as Satanism, War, and Sacrifice. That band was none other than Slayer. They started out wearing spikes, leather, and makeup to look trashy, but they were soon advised not to wear makeup thus to not be associated with the Glam Metal bands. Their first lineup with bassist Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo lasted for the majority of their career, with a few exceptions of inconsistencies in Dave's placement in the band. Their debut Show No Mercy came out in December 1983 and it was a hit in the underground. In the midst of Dave Mustaine moving back to LA after being fired from Metallica, he sought revenge to make a band heavier than Metallica and, as if by sheer destiny, he found a pamphlet from senator Alan Cranston on the bus back that contained the sentence; "The arsenal of megadeath can't be rid no matter what the peace treaties come to". That quote inspired him and gave him the name for his new project; Megadeth. He befriended bassist David Ellefson and they quickly started looking for a drummer and a second guitarist. After auditioning 15 different drummers, they settled on Lee Rausch and Kerry King of Slayer even filled in for some performances. They later switched to Gar Samuelson on drums, whom had also brought in lead guitarist Chris Poland. On the other side of the US, a more urban-styled Thrash band was spawning. Guitarist Scott Ian was leading the only five-member band of the Thrash movement, Anthrax, in New York City. They're debut lineup consisted of Scott, singer Neil Turbin, bassist Dan Lilker, guitarist Dan Spitz, and drummer Charlie Benante. They relied more on the potential of a their speed and built everything off that, sounding more like a cross between Judas Priest and Metallica with similar screaming vocals. This was displayed well on their debut Fistful Of Metal in January 1984. Though it received poor reviews from most critics, the album gained a strong acclaim in the underground. It wasn't longer after however that Dan Lilker and Neil Turbin would leave the band, the former of which would go on to form another Thrash band Nuclear Assault. Dan Lilker was replaced by Frank Bello and Neil was eventually replaced by Joey Belladonna. This lineup would give them a more signature sound than before. Coming back to Metallica, their first album had been a major success and they were ready to take it a step further into music theory with influence from bassist Cliff Burton. Their arrangements featured more harmonies and climatic dynamics, stepping into both what was being described as Power Metal and what it would later become. That album was Ride The Lightning from July 1984 and it gained instant legendary status, propping Metallica as the biggest Metal band of the underground metal movements. Slayer were also making some momentum on their next album Hell Awaits in March 1985, though they weren't ready to explode quite yet. Up to this point, their production had been quite week and relatively quiet in terms of Metal and was their main source of criticism. However, things were ready to change very soon. The Hell Awaits album would foreshadow what came next in both speed and production and they began to sound more like Slayer. Megadeth finally released their debut album Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! in June 1985. The album marked the beginning of the Metallica-Megadeth rivalry with the release of the song Mechanix which was the original version of Metallica's The Four Horsemen. It was thrown in at the end as a way to say "Two can play this game!". Now with new members that better fit their unique sound and identity, Anthrax released their second album Spreading The Disease in October 1985 which gave them their first real taste of success. Their single Madhouse became one of their most beloved tracks, despite failing to chart. It was a major turning point for the band and was closing in on the Thrash Metal movement's biggest year. 1986 was a major year for Thrash Metal, and much of that was due to the success of Metallica's Master Of Puppets in March. That album took the Thrash movement by storm and even began to rival some Glam Metal acts at the time, though it was only the beginning of that siege into the mainstream for them. That album was recognised as the crowning jewel of Thrash and it still lasts today with that praise. Megadeth was following behind with Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? and it was a big step up for the band, gaining them more popularity with the title track, though it ended up being the last with Gar and Chris, replacing them with drummer Chuck Behler and guitarist Jeff Young, whom would both only last one more album. After that album came Slayer's Reign In Blood in October which was just an unleashing of Slayer's best musicianship and speed and contains some of the most loved songs in their career. This year was truly an important year for Thrash, but it ends tragically. During their 1986 Damage Inc. tour with Anthrax, Metallica were on the road in Denmark, riding in a very crappy tour bus. On September 26th, Before heading to sleep, Kirk and Cliff were disputing over sleeping arrangements. They drew from a deck of cards and Cliff picked the Ace of Spades. He got the first pick and slept up on the top bunk near the window and Kirk slept up front. Later that night, moving into morning, the bus started to skid on the road on some supposed black ice and the bus started flipping over. After flipping several times, the bus stopped on it's side and everyone, now awake, got out and started panicking confusedly. Out of all the voices screaming, one voice wasn't heard. Kirk turned around and saw a pair of legs sticking out from under the bus. Cliff had been thrown out of the bus window and it fell on top of him. He was 26 years old. Cliff's death impacted the entire movement. The other three Metallica members were broken over his death and it would begin to show on their next album. Dave Mustaine, though still at ends with Metallica, mourned Cliff's death just as much as they were both band mates at one point and he dedicated his song In My Darkest Hour off their next album So Far, So Good... So What! in January 1988 to Cliff. Scott Ian and Cliff were also really close friends, possibly even best friends. They played together and even got arrested together in the UK over weed, but didn't get caught. Scott and Anthrax dedicated their song A.D.I/Horror Of It All from their next album Among The Living in March 1987. And in a lesser known band called Flotsam & Jetsam, bassist Jason Newsted's tears hit his newspaper as he read about his idol's death. Metallica were coping with Cliff's death together but ultimately decided that Cliff would have wanted them to move on. Upon auditioning new bass players, many came in to play for them including Les Claypool of Primus. But ultimately, they settled on that same kid from Flotsam & Jetsam, Jason Newsted and he appeared for the first time on The $5.98 E.P. The Garage Days Re-Revisited in August 1987, but tensions would arise from his inclusion in the band.

[Comment 2 of 2] Anthrax continued to gain popularity with Among The Living, in which held two of their biggest hits, I Am The Law and Indians. However, it was their song I'm The Man off their EP of the same name that would be an early indicator of Rap Metal which would become important for Anthrax's future. Megadeth came out with their album So Far, So Good... So What! not too long after, though it wasn't as well received as previous works, but things would change for their next album. Slayer released South Of Heaven in July 1988 with held more classic Slayer tracks, including a cover of Judas Priest's Dissonant Aggressor. Critics weren't necessarily thrilled with the album as others with many mixed reviews being given. However, like Megadeth, things would pick up in their next album. Metallica's highly anticipated follow-up to Master Of Puppets and their first album without Cliff Burton, ...And Justice For All was released in September 1988 and there was a very controversial shift in sound. The album was their longest work at the time and had a lot of very soft moments. The drums were mixed very oddly where the bass drum sounded very dry and like a click, and the bass guitar wasn't audible at all. Jason's time in the band was a very troubling time for him. He was often the punching bag of the group, being the newest member and the guy who replaced their closest friend. But there was a serious weigh on the band's shoulders. Lars and James were so affected by Cliff's death and took it out on Jason's parts on the album. As a result, they turned the bass down to where you could barely even hear it. Despite all this, the album was a big success and the song One almost won them their first Grammy Award, but they were notably snubbed in their own category by Jethro Tull whom no one considered Hard Rock or Heavy Metal. Anthrax's State Of Euporia was released later that same month, but it didn't live up to their previous works, though it gave them several notable tracks that would become fan favourites. 1990 came with promising comebacks for Megadeth and Slayer. The former released their landmark album Rust In Peace in September and it became their most recognised success, especially with the opening track Holy Wars...The Punishment Due, of which many regard as one of the greatest Thrash Metal songs of all time. Meanwhile, Slayer released Seasons In the Abyss in October and it was met with the same amount of love and appreciation as Reign In Blood at a time where no one really thought they could out do that album. But they weren't the only ones ready to out do themselves. Metallica were about to cap off their golden years with an album that would change the world of Metal forever. As Glam Metal would fall victim to the void after the rise of Grunge and Alternative music after Nirvana's Nevermind in September 1991, Metallica were one month ahead with an album that would save all underground Metal from falling into the same void. Their self-titled album, known as The Black Album, would become one of the biggest selling albums of all time! The album featured their most well known hits and opened new doors for Metal, practically pioneering Alternative Metal while still holding balls and power. The album was overall a very soft album compared to all previous albums and was strikingly radio friendly. Many called the album a sell out moment for Metallica which it likely was, but they were not ashamed of it. This did, however mark the end of their Thrash Metal era for almost 20 years. That same year, Anthrax was also trying something new, taking Thrash into new territory; Rap. They were close friends with Rap group Public Enemy and the collaborated on the latter's song Bring The Noise which saw a re-release in July 1991. That song contributed to the rise of Rap Metal and Nu Metal which became a major genre in the 1990s and 2000s. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, all four bands would release material that would become popular, whether for good reasons or not. They were the bands responsible for Thrash Metal becoming as great as it was and still is. Metallica later revisited their Thrash roots on 2008's Death Magnetic and Dave Mustaine would patch things up with Metallica. Slayer would keep going until 2019, though Jeff Hanneman would die in 2013, and Anthrax and Megadeth are still going strong today!

I'm so glad you did this song man, it's the most "relaxed" song from them but is also one of the songs tha will make you want more as it goes from the intro to the main part of the song, it's just fantastic. Pleas react to "War Ensemble" from this same album, Dave Lombardo (Drummer) really stands on this one.

There's a reason they are called the big four. This is my favorite Slayer song, and yes it was shot in the Pyramids There is an old PBS Nova episode This Old Pyramid. They built the top 30 feet of a pyramid using technology availible in the day. They had to solve a lot of problems to solve but solve it they did. It was done by engineers. Scientists have been arguing about what is and is not possible, and there are a lot of whacky conspiracy theories. We don't know exactly how the pyramids were built, but we do know that it wasn't beyond the technology at the time. Like I said, we've replicated it.

Was filmed in Egypt 1990,, react next to their song War Ensemble (the official video), it's their first official video and from the same album Seasons in the Abyss..it's the albums opening song.. Soldiers that where at the first Golf war say they always listened to War Ensemble to pump up before they go for a battle. All Slayer songs are great.. Angle of Death, Ghost of War, Mandatory Suicide, Silent Scream, Postmortem, Raining Blood, World Painted Blood, 213, Spill the Blood, Bloodline, Dittohead, etc.. If you ever react to Slayer's most iconic song Raining Blood do it with Postmortem as it is in the album.. Postmortem/Raining Blood,, those songs go together with a transition.. Haven't seen a reaction with both, they only do Raining Blood

Raining Blood is Slayer's signature song, a quick blast of thrash. For Anthrax, their most iconic songs from their prime lineup include 3 covers (Antisocial, Bring The Noise, Got The Time) as well as Indians, Caught In A Mosh, I Am The Law, and Madhouse. Megadeth's key songs include Peace Sells, Wake Up Dead, Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Tornado Of Souls, and Symphony Of Destruction. Not sure what you've done from Metallica, but their key early tunes include Seek And Destroy, Whiplash, 4 Horsemen, Ride The Lightning, Fade To Black, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Master Of Puppets, Battery, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One, Blackened, and Dyers Eve. Metallica's later period had a lot of strong tracks as well, but not necessarily thrash and more radio friendly.

One big influence to thrash metal but is not known to most is a band out of south Wales called Budgie. Listen to their riffs and you cannot deny how their sound has influenced most of the major metal bands we know of today. Look up the song Breadfan and crash course in brain surgery. Band was started in 1967! I was turned onto them by an old metal head years ago. I hope you discover them from this thread and if you already know of this band, respect.
