so much character, so much creativity in arranging the parts & unbelivably round groove for a metal drummer... This album and SeasonsInTheAbyss is a metaldrummers bible...
He's got a SUCH GROOVE. This is what makes him stand apart from other metal drummers. His fills are cool but not too out of ordinary. That GROOVE he has though is KING.🔥🔥🔥🔥🌟⚡⚡
Ya Dave plays in a funk/groove type style where timing alters but overall the timing always comes back on point, where Paul is too precise and loses all the flavor. Likewise Dave can't play anything Paul wrote either for the same reasons.
The drum parts for the guitar solo sections are difficult for me to get right. Hearing them isolated makes me believe I'm over thinking it listening for cues in the music instead of counting the beats because he doesn't go off rhythm. Also I thought he went budda budda budda budda down the toms in the middle of kerry's solo but it turns out the double bass drums make it sound like that but he's really going blum blum blum blum on them. Interesting.
You will never find one. See starting a band and finding the people who are willing to play with you is the hardest thing! If they are this good, they want to find an established band and go on tour and be a rock star!.. lol.. They won't be bothered with your startup band. A guy this good can call his own shots, the band forms around him. You'll be begging him to show up to practice and when he does, his girlfriend won't let him play and he won't pitch in for studio rent. He'll come 2 hours late! And the first time you tell him to play the beat like you want it and give him direction (as simple as play a skank beat here instead of what you are doing), he'll throw a hissy fit and leave the band. I've seen it all... lol. Just sayin. Finding a sane, cool guy who as good as Dave is next to impossible.
No technique my ass! Try to play the song as good as Dave if you think you can. Dave has a good share of technique and impeccable timing. What he has that's more important is groove, tone, passion, dynamics, and the way he plays the drums to all Slayer songs can fit the band's style perfectly. If you think that this song is a beginner song to play, then you're totally wrong and that's a fact.
I am a drummer and I don’t know if you are joking but this is intermediate-Advanced drumming I might learn it. I know seasons in the abyss, raining blood, and angel of death. And the fill at 3:45 is definitely easy. Look at other fills in the song that are more technical and harder than that. But my point is definitely not beginner level.
