This week I'm ranking the Slayer studio album's from worst to best. Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching Here is a link to Todd's channel / toddguythethrashingzombie
I'll never understand the hate for Diabolus. When it came out, I thought it wiped floor with everything else that was happening in metal at the time. Still think it's great.
I bought it on the day it was started selling. I heard Bitterpeace and that song made me crush my self to the floor. It is an excellent response to those Nu-crap at that time.
Exactly. It's a great album. It gets the hate for two reasons. Firstly because they changed their sound. Secondly because it came after their covers album, and everyone though fuck Slayer. In all honesty, they have not put out a bad album. And Diabolus sure isn't a bad album.
Good ranking. Can't argue with the top 3. good to hear your thoughts on them. World painted blood is a great album and show no mercy is one I want to pick up as I like the sound on that one. 🤘🤘
Need to step up my Slayer collection, only albums I have are the legendary Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood . Want to get Show no Mercy up next , cheers friend 🤘
New to the channel but really enjoying so far. Glad to see World Painted Blood get some love. Really good record so late into their career. Best album since Seasons.
@@mrboulder9714 No problem and thanks for the channel. Really enjoyed your Megadeth ranking also. Like you I love music and collecting albums. Really going to enjoy watching all your rankings especially Maiden, Dance of Death album got me into metal when I was 12.
I really like that one aswell and the 3 songs they played live on the big 4 are great, title track, hate worldwide, and the slower one beauty through order I love that track.
Very nice ranking James! I am a huge fan of Divine Intervention (my entry to Slayer) and it is imo criminally underrated. Just shows the power of the album that might introduce someone to a band. Same goes for me with Metallicas Black album.
Great ranking James! I've still got half of their discography to go. Yeah I'm not a fan of the production on Hell awaits, the bass mix is higher than the guitars you can't hear what's going on properly. Can't really argue with your ranking, even though for me Regin in blood is No.1 🤘😊
It's my third favourite after hell awaits and reign in blood but yeah it's my favourite lombardo album. Those fills on the last half of ghosts of war are mind blowing
Hey mate, really interesting video! Yes, I agree that 'Diabolus...' is easily their worst, and believe it or not, my absolute favorite is also 'Seasons...'; just the perfect balance between the old and the new! In my view, 'God Hates...' is extremely underrated; "Exile" and "Warzone" are sick tracks! And of course all of their 80s albums are simply classic! Take care.
I completely agree with your entire ranking. I love Divine intervention, and Seasons has much better songs than reign in blood. I’d love to have heard you compare ‘Diablus in Musica’ to Grip Inc’s ‘Nemesis’ just for a bit of fun.
I agree with your top 4. So glad you put divine intervention at number 4. but then Id replace hell awaits with show no mercy even if it sounds like a bit like maidenish lol.
my slayer album ranked: 1 - show no mercy 2 - south of heaven 3 - reign in blood 4 - christ illusion 5 - seasons in the abyss 6 - hell awaits 7 - divine intervention 8 - repentless 9 - world painted blood 10 - god hates us all
Great list. Obviously you were born in 74/75/76, because you started with Seasons as a teenager. Seasons was my first Slayer album I bought in 1990. I was 14 and I must have listened to it around 10000x. Still, Reign in blood is my Nr 1. Right after comes Seasons.
I respect your opinion on Seasons in the Abyss as your #1! I'm curious about why u didn't rank Haunting the Chapel? Was it because it was a EP? Was it too sloppy in your opinion?
I really like Diabolus In Musica. I think it is far better than Repentless and several others. I get why it has such a harsh reception but I think some of the songs have an eerie, creepy feel that makes it worth a listen. It is definitely more interesting that a lot of their other albums. My personal favorite is South of Heaven.
1 hell awaits , 2 reign in blood , 3 South of heaven , 4 haunting the Chapel Ep, 5 seasons in the abyss, 6 show no mercy 7 God hates us all , 8 divine intervention , 9 christ illusion, 10 repentless, 11 diabolis in musica, 12 would painted blood and last that covers album, can't even remember the name. Cheers mate
1. Show No Mercy 2. Reign in Blood 3. Hell Awaits 4. South of Heaven 5. Seasons in the Abyss 6. World Painted Blood 7. Divine Intervention 8. Christ Illusion 9. God Hates Us All 10. Repentless 11. Undisputed Attitude 12. Diabolus in Musica
I just listened to the whole catalogue the other day and was surprised that besides God Hates...(which is their worst) not one of their albums is over 45 minutes long. We all know about Reign but when I put Seasons and South in and it says, like 32 minutes or something, and I went...'Really?'... some of their records like Diabolus and WPB were a chore to get through, but even they're only 40 minutes long. I guess Slayer knows how to get in quick, snap your neck, and get out fast, not a lot of extra filler there, unless you get a whole album of it like Diabolus. Also I hadn't thought about the song Mind Control for probably 25 years until you mentioned it, not a very memorable side 2 to Divine Intrvention if I'm being honest. Cheers.
1. Hell Awaits 2. Show no Mercy 3. Reign in Blood 4. South of Heaven 5. Seasons in the Abyss 6. Divine Intervention 7. World Painted Blood 8. Christ Illussion 9. Repentless 10. God Hates us All 11. Diabolus in Musica
Hi Mr Boulder, how would you rank the big 4 "weakest" albums? - Anthrax: Volume 8, The Threat Is Real - Megadeth: Risk - Slayer: Diabolus In Musica - Metallica: St Anger Would love to hear your thoughts! @MrBoulder
MY fave two slater albums are Reign in Blood And Hell awaits I like hell awaits cos you can hear the bass guitar and Reign in blood is my fave cos it just soo hell bent for leather. I do find it interesting that you like divine intervention more than hell awaits but its cool thats what makes it interesting. Diabolus is not that bad but I agree with what you said about it too :) my least favourite is the punk cover album. I thought repentless ewas pretty good though :) Great Ranking :) Slayer do have so many good great albums I don't think they have a ttruely alful album except the punk cover album maybe undisputred attitude
To me Divine Intervention is a criminally overlooked album, it's just a shame the sound is so muddy. Big fan of the Hell Awaits production too, nice to hear the bass so prominent in the mix. Cheers
@@mrboulder9714 well thats coool your right it probably is it might well bethier most intesne album I saw Slayer at the unholy alliance tour the first original one so they are one ogf my fave bands I have 6 slayer patches on my vest but my backpatch is Senjutsu Eddie
For me Repentless is definitely their worst... and hell awaits my favorite. South second, reign third Nothing comes close to the feeling of hell awaits, you can also hear the Bass... blew me away when a friend gave me the tape in 84...
I don't like the production on that, the vocals are way to loud and the guitars are buried apart from on the solos but we all have different tastes I guess.
11.Diabolus 10. World painted blood 9. Relentless 8. Christ illusion 7. God hates us all 6. Divine intervention 5. Show no mercy 4. Hell awaits 3. Reign in blood 2. South of heaven 1. Seasons in the abyss
Yep, it's definitely got some really good songs in it. If there's one thing having this channel has taught me, it's that going back to albums sometimes makes you realise that an album that i used to dislike all of a sudden actually really liked after revisiting it. Cheers
@@mrboulder9714Yeah I think trying to appreciate it for what it is and not compare it is key. It is a lesson Ive learned before. Needed to remind myself. Fun with the song starting with a lead. I remember one doing that on the live double cd after seasons as well. Captor of sin!
The production on hell awaits and show no mercy let them down I think. If they sounded as good as south of heaven or seasons in abyss and reign they would be even better than they are I think.
Seasons is a mixture of Reign's agression with South's complexity. Araya decided to 'sing' on south instead of yelling. South is my fave album cause of Lombardo's jazz drum fills.
South definitely gets overlooked because its sandwiched between Reign.and Seasons. It's an amazing album in it's own right. Silent Scream is one of my favourite Slayer songs. Cheers Dan
I’m in the minority, but I’m a fan of Diabolus. I wasn’t feeling it when it came out and I saw them on that tour. I like it better than the following albums. I’ve revisited Christ Illusion many times and can’t find anything I like about it. Their last few albums are a lot of filler imo. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite album. Their first five are just great.
reign in blood south of heaven haunting the chapel (got to count it even if it's an EP) hell awaits divine intervention show no mercy seasons in the abyss god hates us all diabolus in musica christ illusion world painted blood repentless
@@mrboulder9714 You're welcome! I enjoy your analysis is cool, even when I don't agree. But after you flash up your LPs (which are lovely, BTW) you should just superimpose the artwork in the corner, or plain image with the track listing, or even a contemporary photo of the band (if you can find them). I think that would be a cool addition to the channel. Or even have some kind of stand. Maybe it's just me but at the moment it seems a bit fidgety and distracting. 😆 Cheers, dude. I've subbed.
I would put the first 5 in the top 5, with Hell Awaits on top, and after that God Hates us all, Divine Intervention and Diabolus in Musica. I don't care much about the rest of the albums.
@@mrboulder9714 Cheers! Yes, Divine Intervention is great, bought it immediately when it came out and instantly loved it from the opening riff and drums till the end. One thing that makes Slayer so good is that every album has it's own character, it's own sound, they are all unique. I listen to them for over 30 years now and it still doesn't go old.
Top two are the same for me but the other way round - Reign in Blood has got to be number one for me. Hell Awaits is an odd one never really been able to click with it for some reason - and it almost sound too evil if that's possible for Slayer! Love World Painted Blood definitely my favourite of the later years genuinely scary and aggressive without being gimmicky plus some awesome grooves. Hanneman was always my favourite Slayer member so it kind of ends there for me, it just doesn't seem right without him.
It's the production on hell awaits, the vocals are way too loud and the guitars are buried in the mix and sound muddy apart from the solos. Also the drums sound round or flat, lacking punch.
For me, first 5 Albums must be ranked worst to best as it is original order, and then, WPB < Repentless < Christ Illusion < DIM < Divine Intervention < GHUA. Greg Fidelman who made also last 3 Metallica albums really ruined WPB album. Those are the worst guitar tones and mix I have ever heard for Slayer and Metallica. Hopefully Terry Date made the Repentless and the album Itself had a very good sound.
@@mrboulder9714 I mean tracks like this one and the second track on Diabolus, for instance. Funnily enough they were both written by Hanneman. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9xbIb4U2gpA.htmlsi=CGixBR2YvUmH4E5O
@mrboulder9714 true, but they sprinkle in that "Nu metal" and "breakdowns" too much on later stuff. But it's okay 👍 I continue to blast South of Heaven in my chevy camaro, lol. That Rick Ruben mix sounds so good driving 🚗 fast
You could have stopped the video without making a big statement about it. Someone else who clearly has no comprehension about someone having an opinion different to your own 😏
