If this is foreshadowing heavier music then I'm super pumped. 2023 was such a huge year for them, they've garnered such a huge audience, and heavier music for this new audience would be insane.
I disagree. They don't need to be any heavier than they already are. Sleep Token is interesting to me because they blend various genres, incorporating more sensible vibes through the lyrics and the indie/R&B elements. Songs like The Love You Want, Take Aim, Give, Levitate, The Way That You Were, Fall For Me, Missing Limbs, Drag Me Under, Aqua Regia, among others, are an essential part of the band's distinctive sound. So, I hope they don't give in to the pressure from the metal community for heavier riffs and breakdowns, which might make them sound like the others. There are way too many "super heavy" bands out there already.
@@gustavofiorelli I agree that Sleep Token doesn't "need" to be any heavier. But what I'm saying is that if this new look means heavier music, then I'm all here for it.
Couldnt agree more. I do enjoy some of their lighter music but the weird amount of songs with not a single heavy part or no interesting drums etc. Just lean 100% into pop music and that’s too much for me. The overwhelming majority of their most beloved songs have at least one solidly heavy part so… 🥹
This take all over again! Like I love their heavy music and their chill music. Tomb is my least favorite album! And I doubt there's a direction they can go that I wouldn't love. But the new fans don't know about how everyone thought/hoped Tomb would be super heavy and was gonna be the breakout album for them. So I'm here to be like "yall don't even know how much you don't know what they will do". The masks could be foreshadowing or a huge red herring for where they will go in the future. So for your own sakes, expect nothing, hype up nothing. Because they have a gift with subverting expectations and it's more delightful when you have none. (I remember being at work when chokehold dropped out of nowhere, and my notification for the YT video popped up and I clicked it and had to rewind because I was screaming and jumping around too much to process what I just heard). So just from personal experience, you'll enjoy it more to not theorize lol.
@@gustavofiorelliI think ST’s earlier work is what’s really overlooked by the newcomers. But I agree with there being way too many heavy bands out there already. Few stand out. Thrown is the only new super heavy band out there I’m really into. But the thing that’s special about ST is that they build emotion in almost every song. Higher is my all time song from them.
I love the new masks I think the point is to create more personality for the rest of the members as the focus was always just on vessel. It is so sick to see the other members shine. Worship !!
I was liking directly before this release they were getting their own personality with their clothing but kept the other masks. Like III and his fancy red shirt and checkered socks
@@coreyw5981 for me I think the band have grown beyond their concept of vessel being the main entity and alot of light has been shone on all the talented other members so it only seems right that all the other members are finally represented in their own individual light with this new look and style going forward
@@yagel1239 ghost and tobias forge delibrately play into the campy, 80's aesthetic though. I feel like Sleep Token genuinely think that the masks make their music seem heavier
This trilogy was Vessel's. The band played music written by Vessel, soon after co-written by II as well, but it kinda stayed like that. Not until recently III and IV became full members having writing credit and such. The band becoming an official whole, was just asking for them all to get their own personal masks. Great move. While the horror vibe does make you think of Slipknot, I don't see it as a rip off of Slipknot at all. Couple similarities, but they're entirely their own IMO
@@TheErazar as far as I know II has been writing the drums since the very beginning of sleep token, but it’s possible he started seriously writing during sundowning. Credits most likely are unavailable due to anonymity
@@OBAJ27 yeah, I know that he does write his parts. Still, he's not in the credits, while "Vessel1" is - no problems with anonymity there. So, I guess "II" could also be credited? Strange.
I like the new masks, but they kind of give a nu metal vibe. Where as the old masks and robes gave them all a sort of “spiritual medium” look for rituals, which I feel fits more??
Yeah I agree. They were like druids of some ancient religion emerging now to tell their tale. Ironically, the fact that the band members all dressed the same is what contributing to this very unique vibe. If the music is good the music is good though, so I can't imagine this'll affect much.
I preferred the last set of masks, it added to the "vessel leading a cult" vibe they had. But the new masks makes II, III and IV immediately recognisable without them having to be next to their respective instruments
Maybe their look changes with the lyrical lore of their bands story and maybe now that they’ve shed their vessel skin they are becoming more to their individuality. I will miss the uniformity of their look but you never know what you’re going to get next with them so we’ll have to see what story the next album tells
Also II just did the first ever interview on Drumeo, still in the old mask and they used a voice changer but really cool to hear him talk about his approach to drumming regardless.
Going by what they wore at the Wembley show "Vessel" is still using his same old mask - so maybe this was just a way to have the rest of the band "catch up" to what their brand is.
I love the new masks, also glad to see the Numbers getting masks that are more expressive, before it was Vessel had a cool mask and the others were about to hold up a Convenience Store, this is a lot better, M Shadows can be the musician with the Ski Mask from now on
My opinion does not matter, obviously. They are huge because they are good. And while I like each of them getting individual personalities, in my opinion, it largely takes away from the cult vibes they had going on, which is what their entire image was based off of. When I think of cult/coven/sleep token, I think of the faceless figures in the dark. Shadows in the woods under a new moon, silhouettes in front of neon and fire. While the masks are dope and no hate to the artist at all, I don’t think it fits the vibe of the band. But if they love them, I’m happy for them, and it’s not going to change my opinion on thinking the music they have made so far sounds amazing. Just a little bit of character design got lost in translation.
They’re not a cult image. You “Worship” heads just take the band lore way too far. Y’all act like if BABYMETAL fans actually believed Su-Metal worshiped a Fox God and did analysis about the lyrics in relation to the “Metal Galaxy” and shit. It’s not that deep. “Vessel” sings about heartbreak and self esteem and shit. The Goddess Sleep and all that shit is not meant to be taken so deep, and this image change seems to be the band trying to get you all to take a hint.
I was surprised Vessel didn’t have a new mask reveal at Wembley! I love his current mask and I kind of don’t want it to change cause I feel like he just got it, but his current look doesn’t match the rest of the band so I’m sure he’s gonna change it up either when the 2024 tour starts or when a new album drops. The Vesselettes got new masks as well, also made by the person who made Vessels current mask! The other new masks are made by a really talented guy who made Corey’s latest mask, not sure about the rest of Slipknot, so that’s probably why there’s some influence there. Corey loves ST too…Im pretty sure it was his wife’s dance troupe who danced on stage at Wembley when they performed
I personally prefer the simplicity of their previous looks. I remember reading an article from their earlier days saying they wore the masks so that the music was the focus, "they" weren't the act they were just the vessel for this "sleep" entity. Giving them all very unique and flashy looks feels like it defeats that original ethos. They don't look bad by any means if these were new Slipknot masks i'd be hyped haha, but doesn't fit the band for me imo!
Seeing them on Saturday - honestly the new look took absolutely nothing away from the performance. Everyone in the crowd was moaning like hell when the photo was released but by the end everyone seemed to get it. I absolutely love them.
I'm LOVING the new looks. Each of the members show a different style of music, and I am SO here for it. When Vessel finally releases his new look it'll be sick. Its showing more of who they are as people, and expression is what music is all about. If they can give more of themselves with their looks then I am here for it. Can't wait for what's next. Also, if Scooby-Doo ever does use STokens music for a chase, shit would be cash money.
I love how III and IV are like one mask ripped into two parts, with one mask having the golden top and the other the golden bottom. Sleep Token's details never disappoint
It's a new era for a reason. Things are going to change a lot. They are more interactive with the crowd, now ii is talking and did an interview there's hint of another member doing an interview soon. The new masks makes the rest of the band official members now instead of just vessel + some dudes. I love it I'm here for the new era.
I love that the V3 mask drop was close enough to Vore that we compared it to that than to red wings. In one photo, the way the red circled up the side of his face, it almost gave the impression of a disease (which I thought was super cool, like Mask of the Red Death vibes)
all that aside, love the masks, I just hope we hear more tracks like Vore, the heaviness suits them so well. breathy deftones sexyboy vocals aside from vessel, which play into their style really well, I think Vore was easily their best track on the newest album. Lets get heavier sleep token please
What I dont understand is people saying that it dosent match their asthetic. Do people forget that vessel has being walking around with a mask thats got blood red ivy moulding on the bottom of it? or that hes wearing fur over one shoulder and a pauldron over the other? and has been for a while now. They are alot closer to matching vessel now than they were before
IDK... really liked the V2 maskes and cloth covers. Fit more with the worship and ritual experience. Tribal almost..? Now just seems a bit to show boatish... idk
II mask reminds me of that old Playstation game Abe's Odyssey Conflicted: love the artistry of the masks & that there's some hints from the TMBTE album art but also concerned giving them more defined personalities will start detracting from the music which is what they always claimed was main focus...or start a band member carousel like Slip Knot seems to be doing recent years
Oh btw have u seen the masks II III IV had before the previous black one? Aka the white ones? Just asking cause u didn't show it here :" Honestly I'm happy with their new masks hope it hints to a heavier sound if not it's ok as well but like obviously if they go heavier they still need to have their piano heavy/softer songs cause let's be honest those are amazing as well
I was infront of iii at Wembley - you could tell he absolutely loves having his hair wild and free - that man can windmill those curly locks into oblivion ha
@@bobbobington7379 uh NikNocturnal has a song with them well with at least two of the members.. It's called Nocturnal Incisions or something like that.. it's super dope..
iv looks like a mix between vman and dr doom, ii just kind of gives me joey jordison vibes for some reason, maybe because of the hair. But iv's jacket is so sick!
Seen II do some drum plays over on Drumeo? dude was ripping it. Also new masks means new material coming? It means they're not done, that's a good sign at least. Some people were saying Take Me Back To Eden was a swansong album, like there is nothing more coming, this move says otherwise and maybe a change in general to something darker/heavier?
Idk, but they always remind me of that movie Eyes wide shut, with those black hooded coats and, yes, those masks. I prefer the second mask hiding his face. I look forward to what ever they do and to every evolution in look and sound. Remember, they once said: Nothing lasts forever.
I actually just discovered them a month ago and have been enjoying their music. No idea about the masks honestly. Doesn’t really take away from the music for me but definitely doesn’t add anything either lol.
If this is foreshadowing more heavy shit then I’m excited. I actually kinda enjoy the chiller stuff but I’d be lying if I said Vore wasn’t my favorite song of theirs.
I'm personally prefer new masks, especially III because saw few clips of his hair been poking out everywhere through his old mask. i have a feeling he's so relief that his hair is free lmao
