Sleep Token - The Summoning - REACTION

Today was the turn of Sleep Token and their song The Summoning. A band that havent featured on the channel all that much over the years, but a song that was recommended to me a few weeks ago! I was really impressed with the musical change ups and the different sounds they created in the song. Am i right about the lyrics? let me know in the comment section!

I hadn't considered the drug analogy, but after you said that it does make sense to me. I originally thought it was just a love song, but now it sounds like maybe the narrator is caught between his lover and his drug addiction. Though I should note that the lyrics in this video are slightly off (it's definitely not an official video).

If you use a bpm of 172, the opening section that repeats a few times can be counted with two 6s and a 4, repeated. Once the verse kicks in, it sounds like it’s odd there too, but you can count that in 4. The drummer is just modulating like a madman and it took me a frustratingly long time to figure it out.

That section before the first breakdown is nearly impossible to memorize for me, but I've internalized that the first of the last three dotted eighth notes lands on the 1. His whispered=>screamed "See the other side" also starts on the 1 :)

Definitely checkout Atlantic by these guys if you can it’s a change in sound for them for the most part but then again they spread themselves across multiple genres

Aqua Regia is extremely "jazzy," the chord progressions and piano work are fabulous!

The song's in common time, it's just extremely syncopated - I think the only song in which they've explicitly changed time signature rather than just playing around with polyrhythms is Hypnosis during the breakdown :) Worship!
