@@mardiffv.8775 I suppose it's relative? I live in Southern California and we almost never get temps below 65 F in the Winter. I lived in Alkmaar and Deventer. I REALLY miss Dutch coffee and Roggebrod!
@@ElectrologyNow Yes Sir, Relative indeed, only in 2010 en 2017 we had periods of snow and frost. I remember that vividly. Because during black ice and snow I must open gates at my job. And that opening happens sporadic.

Keer goed dicht laten vriezen in Nederland iedereen weer ijs vrij.. en gewoon wachten tot seizoen over is met koude weer! Schatspret! Laat koude front maar even goed door komen!
Having pushed a bit of ice here and there....I can say that the ice breaks from the push, until it does not....and THEN the props push the bow of the boat up onto the ice and the weight of the boat then forces the crack. If the ice is rotten, like that in SE Alaska in the spring....you may get lucky and crack a nice lead....and can then follow that.

What is the purpoise of this? Are they just going from A to B, or are they indeed trying to break ice to clear the path for other boats to follow afterwards...
