Part 12 of the Gettysburg series.
When speaking of the Battle of Gettysburg, many may not realize how much fighting occurred in the town itself. The most violent urban combat took place in the southern part of Gettysburg where the Sweeny House was located. In this episode, we're visiting the Sweeny House which is now called The Farnsworth House Inn to spend the night right below the spot where Confederate snipers were posted. It's also thought that this is the place where the fatal shot that killed Jennie Wade was fired from.
To learn more about staying at the Farnsworth House Inn, visit their website here: www.farnsworthhouseinn.com/

Down in Texas, we call your bullet strikes -pockmarks! To me a bullet strike is a fastball right over home plate with an Astro knocking it outta the yard. NYUK-NYUK-NYUK. Just a little town ball and Curly Howard humor to go with some War Between the States seriousness!

Marvelous and beautiful. There is something about the POV from which this is shot, and the time you give us with the individual locations, returning for a look after you have spoken, that pulls the viewer into the experience of being there. And to feel some impact of these “true life” places. The seriousness and the humble man, woman and child that had to endure this and figure out what to do next. That we can all relate to. Poor Jennie Wade.

The July first Union retreat through town doesn't seem to be part of the usual agenda when it comes to Gettysburg visits. The Sweeny/Farnsworth house is another small part of the battle's history as well as a very cool place to stay. Really enjoying the series, thanks for sharing 👍. Edit: I told my wife about the episode and said it might be a nice place to stay for the night. She said she wasn't staying anywhere people were "riling up spirits" because she didn't want one attaching itself to either one of us. Funny you mention that. I actually watched Gods and Generals today after church. He really is a heck of an actor.

As a native born Pennsylvanian, who loves History, Pennsylvania is a Commonwealth of American History all over the State. I live literally halfway between Philadelphia and Gettysburg, but the entire State is very historic. General John Fulton Reynolds, who died the first morning of the Battle of Gettysburg, he was born in Lancaster and was buried in The Lancaster Cemetery which was a city block from where I was raised in my youth, he has the largest monument in that cemetery.

My friends and I rented the whole house for a few nights last year! Very cool place! The room in the video is my favorite. The Eisenhower room across the hall is also very nice. There's a HEAVY green glass jar in the bathroom of the child-themed room that tipped its top off while we were unpacking for our 1st night. I still have no logical explanation for how that things top moved on its own. The house didn't "feel" haunted to me but I heard enough things move in empty rooms that I believe it has to be haunted if anywhere is.

Were you alone or was there a guy with you who said the 'Hey" at 0:58? Really nice camerawork, music, info and cool relics! Thanks for the video!

I toured this very house on a visit in 2016, and Ironically I stayed at the 1863 Inn located directly next door to the Jenny Wade house. It was interesting standing on the upper balconies with my binoculars looking directly at the window where she was allegedly shot from...several hundred yards up the street...( obviously the hotel was not yet constructed in July 1863) very informative piece and nice to meld MY modern memories with poignant historical tidbits.
