How I camp in my Ford Escape Hybrid--with a sleeping platform. I did not remove the rear seat to do this as many folks do!

Hey, everyone! I'm a science professor working on a really important project right now. You might have seen books that explain basic chemistry concepts with pictures and everyday objects. You might also have seen textbooks that are mathematically rigorous while teaching chemistry. But have you ever seen a chemistry book that is mathematically rigorous while also using lots of pictures and hands-on manipulatives? Right now, that book--Visual Chemistry--only exists in draft form on my computer. In order to finish it, I'll need to take a summer off of teaching, and I need money to do that.

Do you have the dimensions on that platform with the hinges, that is exactly what I had in mind to do mine.

I started with a 4x8 sheet of plywood and cut it to length. It's too narrow down on the floor to put the 4' width, but up higher (above the wheel well) it's the perfect size. As far as length goes, that's complicated, because it depends how far forward you're willing to scoot the front seats. It's a bit more than 6'. (I don't know why this video is still up on this channel; most of my travel videos are on my other channel, including this follow-up that talks about my son, who's 6'2", sleeping in the Escape.)
