Very interesting, especially the part about new motors sometimes being stuck.

How about mounting positions? Horizontal vs vertical, for vertical mounting, up vs down?

it would depend on the load on the bearing, whether it's radial or axial, and those things are a quick google away

The oil wick packing of a motor sometimes has an orientation. Take a box fan or oscillating fan for example. I've found many that have a semicircular wick from roughly 9 or 10 o'clock to 2 or 3 o'clock to hold oil because that fan will only be in one orientation because there is a definite right side up. The top piece isn't needed. If you have that motor mounted upside down, the oil will want to drip down to the empty dish area and not stay in the wick held against the bronze bushing and it won't wick through to the shaft. Basically, dust shielding, oiling, and axial thrust handling are the big factors you need to be aware of for vertically mounting sleeves. Vertical mounting lets dust settle down into the bearing which is why a nice shielding mechanism is required. Axial load is mostly what ball bearings need to be selected for. A deep groove ball bearing can be used vertically mounted with mild axial thrust load. I'd say, when in doubt just go deep groove RR ball bearing.

So a Sleeve bearing motor permits the rotor to self-center, sleeve bearing wicking keeps reserve lube, "slightly" studier ball bearing ? So WHAT IS "EC" ? Yes 93% of new motors, that come in a box, are bad, Didn't answer any of my questions, Thanks !
