Great job guys! I’m in my mid-fifties and still play the trumpet a fair amount. This took me back to high school-- we played this exact arrangement for all four years. I still have it memorized after all these years. Great job on the horse whinny at the end, too! You made me grin from ear to ear.
I just started this piece this year as a trumpeteer and I had to learn the horse whinny. It sure is fun to do but for the life of me I can barely even do it
@@motifity3416 it appears the guy doing the whinny is partially depressing/feathering the 3rd valve. I think when I did it, I halfway depressed all three valves and then feathered them
You guys sound so amazing because I know trumpet isn’t the easiest instrument and literally hearing the trombone behind you two did a amazing job you all should be very proud of each other
Lmao we happen to play the exact same instruments! I agree with trumpet being the most difficult out of them all, I can barely get 2 octaves of range on trumpet.
@@brayden6158 yah, I bet grasping that small of an object causes the hand to start to get finger bending problems. Not even viagra will save them, I mean not even an easily sensitive jingle bell will save them.
Ngl, I’ve played sleigh bells for a song like this before and it was extremely fun- considering most auxiliary perc parts have MASSIVE amounts of rest, it’s refreshing
For how old this concert band arrangement is, I'm surprised how common it is. In my band we use the originals from the mids 50s. They are full of notation from many generations of player and have many holes, but the music is readable enough. Amazing performance the both of you and the bells behind you.
Yes is like a Classic tbh, even for me being a HS Grad of ‘21. I played this for 4 years straight throughout High School Band loved it, very Worth learning & playing over again. But I still play it on my Alto Sax til this day as a Fun Christmas Song whenever. But so True.
In all my years playing this, I had no idea the trumpets actually take a backseat in so much of this piece. Trumpets are usually the foreground of things! Of course the trumpet really gets to shine at the end with the horse. One time in a band, we had the entire trumpet section do the horse sound. I think it was great.
Bro this takes mad skill for recording during a concert!!! Not only are you guys looking so sharp with those bow ties but that horse was honestly spot on and I have never heard better👌 Very well done!
From another trumpet player I just have to say that, that was an amazing performance. The tone from both of you was so clean that I thought you two were in college, but I was genuinely shocked to see this was high school. Keep it up cause I know that both of you can definitely be something great in the future
In my band the low brass dominates the band, the trombones dominate the band, I dominate the trombones! Im a trombone player with massive lungs and good sound, but damn some of the underclassmen are good af ngl. If they see this, i just wonna say you guys are good af at what you do
I love this because it shows people the different parts bands play. It's not all the melody. Sometimes it's harmony, sometimes it's something completely different. (I was a bass clarinet player in high school.)
I know what you mean. I used to play bass in my school orchestra. The first violin section was completely opposite of me, so I heard pretty much everything better than the melody. As a result, watching the videos my parents took of concerts was a unique experience.
That's a rather far above average performance for a high school. I had to laugh at counting a number of measures and then playing one note. I know what that's like. And this was never demonstrated any better than by comedian Pete Barbutti being "Fourth Trumpet". This is especially for trumpet players: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FnsEZ9q2hOc.html
String player here, so I can’t adequately judge, but this is the most crisp and articulate I’ve ever heard trumpet players tbh. Some good stuff and mad respect! 👍🏾
It’s just the bass trombones that play that part, it is the hardest part in the score for us by far so the other bass trombonist in my band (I am the first) skipped out and I had to play it. It’s a shame!
back when i was in high school, it was a tradition to ALWAYS play Sleigh Ride in our Winter concert!! y’all did so good! i don’t think our trumpet players did the reindeer sound before but it added a cherry on top!
I remember when my teacher assigned me 1st part on trumpet for this and I was STRESSED. Concert went really good though! Y’all sounded great, and it was fun to relive the memories lol
Would do this from the bassoonist perspective but unfortunately my school doesn't like to play normal Christmas songs and instead we get random Mashups.
May God bless you ! You’re gunna do great for ur school year ! Put God first and everything will fall into place ! John 3:16 says , “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. “ 💕
Just can'r resist commenting. I am 82. I have played trumpet for 72 years. I have played the horse whinny for the past 30 years each Christmas concert of our community band. Well done, young man. I coujldn't have done better.
as a violin player, you guys sound great and i wish our horns section was this balanced/tuned😅 (also i still don’t even know how the trumpet works so again, good job lol)
Started playing around a year ago and keep the same energy and excitement because sometimes it seems like u aren’t progressing but you will and are :))) good luck on ur journey

My band played the same exact song at our concert except it wasn't as good we have 3 percussionists and a very small band in general although i got to play the clap stick which was fun
it’s so interesting to see this as someone who has played a violin part for all my high school sleigh ride performances, i’ve never got to clearly hear the trumpet part because there’s so many people when we do combined band + orch, so this is fun to see!
