I’m so lucky my school is an extremely small school so we don’t even have enough to do this for seven minutes. Becuase right now I’m the only clarinet in the JH band.
then there’s my percussionists having to only be able to play 3/4 songs because there’s to many of us and last year there’s ALSO me only playing two notes on the triangle :’)
@@hectorcayetano7341 same with us and our new song Lmao. My friend had to attach a drumstick to a hat so he could play cymbals and wind chimes at the same time, it was hilarious.
I wish our band had percussion. The percussions section is always so energetic and cool, I don't think people understand that a band needs percussion, it's a very important role that keeps the band together.
Yess I’m percussion and it’s so fun! In class we always js be in the back laughing and all the percussionists r js good friends and were definitely the band teachers favorites 😻
I’m a middle school flute player self teaching clarinet and will be in high school next year, I hope I play sleigh ride next year it looks so fun and I like it in general.
Bro this audience be real hype 😭meanwhile the one we did last week they started clapping during one of the rests, she also had us doing some chamber group thingy and she didn't have enough chairs for my group so I had to go back and get my own chair and then the kid next to me claimed I took his chair and me and this other kid tried telling him that his chair was right there but he didn't listen and grabbed another chair and then once he realized put it in the row behind us oh my goodness that concert felt very rushed tbh :,)
as someone who is a percussionist, any time I wasn’t playing for a section, me and my friend (who was also in percussion) would just be vibing to the music. Especially in this one song, Colossus, where I had crash cymbol and he had triangle. Every time I had to crash the cymbals together, he would say "crash" in the most monotone voice you can imagine. Good times.😂
As a flute player for my school I am desperately trying to convince the 2 music teachers to do this song this Christmas. I am definitely going to show this to them how they can have fun AND be amazing at playing aswell. But honestly the man in the back at 1:28 was so hilarious. Not to mention the smack was on beat like they planned it 😂
Seeing this video while thinking of quitting band and percussion for multiple reasons made me realize that these are the things I might be doing when I'm older so thank you !!!
@@JJ082 well what would you want them to use? It's the only thing that is possible to make that kind of whip crack sound. I literally do college percussion
At my Christmas consert we had this dude that eats protein powder for breakfast to play the slapping thing and he did not hesitate to make a noise it was so loud
Drummers never seem to have to toe the line like all other sections... but what a fun time... these guys like being in the band,,,, It makes school fun..
us percussion section are always talking about how we're the best section LMAO. not just bc like oh we're so amazing but our section plays the most instruments and we like get really hyped up.
I love how you guys make it fun and share the joy with other people and having a good time. This actually gave me a new perspective of the percussionist 😂
bruh yall percussionists have so much fun and i play bass clarinet and in my band the clarinets sit like in the front front which means if i get even slightly off track for like 0.1 seconds the band director is like "bro are u serious right now" 😭😭
As someone who has played this piece before in band this stuff is hard to learn for a middle school band so we didn’t do it like them but I played marimba with a friend and this shit can be difficult I don’t think I could ever play as good as they can
They're having way too much fun, my band directors would chew us out if we did this during a concert. But hey it's Christmas (when this video was recorded obviously) and the crowd enjoyed it so I'm not gonna be critical👏👏
Man….why do percussionists get to have so much fun? As an alto sax player, I hated sleigh ride. You either get boring parts, or the high notes killed you. It’s amazing how much fun you can have when you don’t have to have an instrument in your mouth the entire time
3:56 why is that specific rhythm right there with dotted quarters so fun to quietly play in the back of the percussion section when you aren't playing your part I do that all the time
I play clarinet and I wish I did percussion now because the only time I have when I’m not playing is quiet sections so I can’t make any noise I hate it sm this seems so fun and I play the 1 st clarinet songs so
@@43s1r Only for snare/drumset/timpani you have to learn (rolls, coordination of hands&feet...) and for melodics, you have to learn where the notes are (glockenspiel, xylophone.....) But if you know piano, that will help you For basically all other percusison, from triangle to bass drum, fom shaker to suspended cymbal......it mostly shows itself. If you know rythms, you can do percussion! So you could, if you *really* want to go into percussion instead of playing the Squeek, you can start with the smaller non-melodic percussion (cymbals, triangle, slapstick, wood blocks etc.) ;)
MIddle school french horn/bass clarinet player. we had one of our percussionists run around in the audience in an elf costume for this song. he snuck up behind people. but he went straight to my mom as requested.
Sure is different from the flute section view! ( I play flute piccolo). I would have thought jumping with the slapstick would make it harder to stay in time. Did you ever have any accidents or trip over things while jumping?
I played this song for my Christmas concert this year as a percussionist and I played the temple blocks, now idk what temple blocks they have but ours were different and super loud. Especially on stage. And this hs percussionist was literally dissing me on how I should be more quiet. But I couldn’t help the sound ☠️😭 but I played my part right so idk y he yapping
