starting at 2:15 is in my opinion the best part of the song. the trombone part slaps . and starting at 2:24 is my absolute favorite bit. it went so hard that my band directors made it it's own stand tune
It's difficult to be near perfectly in sync with your section, usually tubas struggle with this and these 2 players played beautifully with impressive tone.
Bro I am a 7th grade tuba and I am in honor jazz and pep band but I still can not be in sync with this other chick so I can see where you are getting that from lol
Even though the camera’s picking up mainly the trombones, the overall band sounds really good. I can’t tell if this is college or high school, but the sound is very collegiate.
my guess is high school and yes, either way they are sounding very good. Top notch trombones here. And the whole band from the sounds of it are excellent.
Bro my bands playing the exact same arrangement of sleigh ride and I'm playing trombone. We do the same thing when you get to the snap thing. These guys are gods
I'm trombone but am also playing the baritone part for the half notes + a couple other things lol. My school is smol enough that I'm the entire low brass (yet somehow there's like 7 clarinets)
This was actually really good!! Although I'm a flute player, Trombone is my favorite brass instrument along with Tubas, and Sleigh Ride being a favorite Christmas songs, you guys did amazing!!
Just had my first holiday concert of the season and IMMEDIATELY RU-vid knows I’m preparing for the next two weeks of nonstop concerts. Obviously sleigh ride is on the program hahaha. The holiday season is awesome but also one of the busiest times of year for us musicians 🥲
We had a different piece, still Christmas, and we didn't have enough percussionists so the Flutes and Oboe (I play oboe and flute teehee) had some fun with some of the percussion instruments + some random stuff
You guys!!! Thank you so much for sharing! I know I'm a couple years late, but I just want to say I've been playing trombone for 8 years and this made me so happy! I recently graduated and had to return the instrument back to my high school and I am working on buying my own personal tenor trombone. Keep up the good work, boys!!!
This year, I am the only first clarinetist in our band and I should really be practicing right now, but it's so nice to see people enjoy this piece. Also you guys have rests?!?? This is my second time playing this song and the 1st clarinets don't get a single moment of peace.
For this one one we're playing called Salvation Is Created, the 1st clarinets only get like the equivalent of one measure of rest total in the entire piece!! 😂
@@dw1419 Yes, I was very blessed to be at a high school that emphasized music highly. The band director, choir director, and orchestra director all collaborated to make sure to the highest degree possible that students could be in all of them. I played trombone in the band, and we had a full orchestra that would at certain times of the year borrow brass and woodwind students from the band. The choir director allowed band students to come for only half the period so that they could eat lunch. Some students were even in theater on top of all of that. I'm thankful to God every day that I went to a school like that.
I totally feel this when I was in middle school, thankfully we got new directors that completely changed that school’s band. Improve personally and everyone else will notice, and eventually there will be a change in that band!
In high school I played the Oboe, so it's really interesting to hear the other parts of the song that I never really heard because I was always in the front!
imagine having a clarinet section that is competent enough to play this. Our entire band had to hand this song back in my senior year because the clarinets don't know how to practice and actually make their part sound good :/
Only thing that ever tripped me up with this song as a clarinet player was the fact you have to basically blast the start of those with only the first clarinet so it never comes out clear enough if even one clarinet is off pitch or slightly out of tune. It's very short and awkward jabs that also need to sound clear. I hate it Really it's an endurance battle so if you March the song isn't that much of an issue if played at a reasonable tempo. If you don't practice and only play during the concert season then don't expect much. (Even seen college clarinet players with bad breathing control so I can't imagine high school clarinet players that don't play year round) I've seen many bands drop the song from their list for good.
I'm about 99.99% sure that these two started the Sleigh Ride from ____'s Perspective trend, and then the 4 trumpets (including myself) in 2021 was the push for it to go everywhere. A shame I didn't get to perform with these two before they graduated, which was a couple of years before I joined this band.
As a flute player I always wondered why the brass would complain about playing this song, b.c it’s fun for us. Then I switched to French horn and understood!
I have literally never heard of a band where everyone plays all at once all the time, which is the only way you would have no idea what the other parts sound like. Band directors say "ok let me hear the trumpets at measure 18!" So either your band director was absolute shit or you are lying. I suspect the latter because every brass instrument has a fun part in this except French horn.
This is my all-time, hands down favorite Christmas song- perhaps because of Leroy Anderson's composition brilliance, perhaps because you don't need the lyrics to enjoy it. Attended Tonawanda High School in New York, Class of 1983, and this was the traditional holiday song at all the band concerts. I played percussion and already appreciated the trombone section's contribution, parked behind them like in this video, but I played the sleigh bells- not very challenging, mind you, but indispensable to the song.
I’ve played clarinet for years, and this was always the chair tryout piece (I sat first chair all 4 years)….I never realize trombones had rests!!!!! As a clarinetist there is no moment of peace.
I was a trombone player in junior high and high school. This is cooler than cool. The guys have a great sense of humor. Wonder what they're doing now. Trombone respect!!
3:11 those head tilts matching up to the beat were very accurate ,used to play saxophone and me and my entire section would just headbang during our moment of 2 second rests
In highschool I'd get chills by the trombone part at 2:20 like omg it was so strong and loud I couldn't even play. To this day I turn the volume up all the way at that part! Thank you so much for posting this, lol it's like finding a whole video of the thing you love that no one knows about 😩😩😩😍😍😍😍🎄🎄🎄🎄🤣🤣🤣
That’s why I just LOVE America!! You guys are just HAVING FUN with music. Sounds so energetic! I can tell that you are enjoying this moment fully. How awesome are they!! I hope most students in our country can also have this mood too during their school life. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻
We read through this piece at community band rehearsal this week. I had the same reaction of the guy on the left when we finished, and our arrangement didn’t have near as many measures of rest. 😨
What fun! I played this on trombone throughout high school (graduated 1970!) and I still 'sing' (to myself or out loud) the trombone parts when I hear this song. Thanks for a blast of nostalgia.
Nice! I've always known trombones had a huge role in making Sleigh Ride sound fabulous, but I never knew the specifics. Thanks for letting me listen in! And nice job band!!
OMG this video is really useful for my cello part practice, as well as it is entertaining. Congratulations to you guys, and also to the rest of the ensamble 🎉
I'm a flutist and a trombonist, and the contrast between what each instrument plays is crazy! As a trombonist, I was tired of always doing easy, boring stuff in the background. But when I started learning flute, it went too fast and if you messed up when playing the melody, everyone noticed!
