I have a Sligh grandfather clock I've had for decades. It sounds exactly like this, and other clocks do sound different. Its almost as if you could tell its a Sligh by the sound.
I think I have this clock. I found one someone was giving away for free. I need to find someone to put the pieces back into it. But I think this is the one I got. We brought it into my apartment today and it is the first time I got to really look at it. I figured it would need to be refurbished or need a lot of work for someone to just give it away and for no one else to respond to the the FB marketplace post that had been up an entire day! I feel like I'm still pretty young at 43. I come from a very hard working, very blue collar family who would think even owning a free grandfather clock was a waste because of whatever you pay to have someone set up the weights and stuff. I think they are elegant and I've wanted one since I was 5 or 6 years old. I lost everything during COVID, from my job at a homeless shelter in June 2020 to my home in December 2020. It took until June 16, 2022 to finally get approved for an apartment I can afford on my disability benefits. Couldn't supplement my income that entire time because I have 2 auto immune diseases, can't get vaccine cuz my auto immune disease will make it so my body would ignore the virus in the vaccine and I could die from the vaccine itself, so need a 16 hour a week work from home job and that doesn't happen when you are homeless, you don't have a car due to a car accident totaling it and not having money to start over to buy another one because can't work without a home and cannot afford a home without a job!! I think there are way too many people experiencing this right now then should be. Anyway, I finally found a place 90 miles from my entire family and friend base. But I can afford. Rent for my one bedroom is 50% of my income after I pay for my medical insurance. And someone felt bad for me and bought an SUV in Jan off 2022 at an auction for $800, got it home and decided they didn't want to put any work into it so they knew I not only needed a car but it would be emergency shelter (if funding from the state fell thru for the motel I was able to stay in from Oct 2021 until the end of March 2022 and then I was told that I was still eligible for assistance but that too many people needed rooms and that I was heading to live outside) and they offered it to me for the $800 they paid for it and they let me make payments! So I have a car but it needs work to pass inspection. When I left the motel I was able to park that SUV in a relative's driveway and I could go there to sleep in it at night with my dog so I am so grateful I had somewhere to stay until I got approved for my apartment 90 days later, signed my lease 15 days after that, moved my stuff into my apartment 3 days later and I've been here now 5 months and I'm grateful... The point of all this is that : The clock was given to me the Saturday before Easter in 2022. It's been lying down in my suv from then until 12 hours ago because I couldn't find anyone willing to help me get it in here, it's really heavy, even with all the weights removed. It was given to me with the weights removed and the chimes I'm guessing and the huge metal piece that hangs down. I was given a container of the insides that I did not think would feel like it weighed over 100 pounds when it's such a small container and the I guess it's a pendulum and the key and all of that. Will it having been lying on its back in the car, obviously got bumped around a little during the 90 mile drive up, damage it so it won't work? It was wrapped in blankets. I live in NH. It really was never hot and humid, especially in the white mountains where I know live. And I MADE people help me get it in today because the wind-chill tonight is below zero and we should be getting snow really soon. I didn't know if the barometric pressure it being in the car like that would hurt the clock. Like warp the wood of the casing or bend the stuff inside that's still in there. If anyone read this far, thank you greatly. Please, please, please help me. I need to know how I find someone that knows what they are doing. I'm not letting ANY of my friends watch a how to video on RU-vid and then touch my clock! This clock means a lot to me after what I've been thru and how long I've wanted one. I saw it for free and going to pick it up was the first sign I had shown in over a year that things were looking better, that I would find a home for me and my dog (the only reason that I couldn't let myself give up was my dog, she was counting on me to take care of her in a home or not and she gave me love and affection and understanding when I didn't have it for myself and got negative about my situation instead of looking at all I do have. A lot of us lost more then jobs and homes. Many lost their loved ones or their own lives. I'm grateful after having covid twice with auto immune disease I didn't even need to go to the hospital and find someone to take my dog in!) I am open to any help. I have pictures of the clock. A rough idea on how much I would prob need to pay someone and what kind of creditentials I should be looking for before I ask someone to come to my home. How can I tell for myself before the weights are put back in if it will even still work? Any info, advice. What should I use to clean it? Different stuff for the wood send metal I'm guessing. I'm thinking there are special cleaners so it doesn't hurt the integrity and appearance, etc. And to the gentleman that created this video, thank you so very much! If I found the right model of my clock, watching your video and listening to the songs and chimes gave me a little kick in the butt to get my act together and get that job from home so I can fix my car and my clock and finally put this in my rearview knowing I am stronger then I've ever been.. FYI.... I named the clock while I was writing my novel here. His name is Percy. Short for Perseverance T. Start-Fresh! Lol
I like the sound of this grandfather clock. It almost sounds exactly the same as a grandfather clock strike sound effect. I've been wanting to add a cable-driven grandfather clock to my clock collection for quite some time, but I've been trying to find just the right one with the right sound. I know most of the newer ones sound the same, but I want to find the one that sounds almost exactly like the grandfather clock I first saw at the Skaalen assisted living facility in Stoughton, Wisconsin in 2007. I don't know which company manufactured that clock at that facility.

I happen to come across the Sligh clock just the face with moon disc and 3 gears align from top centre to moon disc teeth. The rest is missing the whole mechanical clock works and arms, weights, the whole rest. I found it while clearing out the stuff at work (volunteered) to get rid of stuff my boss don't want to keep anymore and need to create space in the work area since his dad passed away years ago, the condition is like bran new no scratched, no dents even not bent which is very fortunate. I have asked if it ok I keep this, he said 'you can, as these area you're clearing out into the waste anyone can take anything as they please' (I didn't want to ask about the missing part as there's so much stuff to clear out and no time to find the missing part unfortunate). question is any idea how much the face part? I took research about it and turns out Sligh ceased manufacturing in 2005, there is marking on the back face 'made in W. Germany' the design pattern is exactly like the one in this video. looking forwards to hear your feedback, plus the chime sounded nice ^_^
We just purchased another sligh, this one however came with issues. People we bought it from acquired it from a aunt who got it as part of divorce. Bitter spouse unknown to them and us until after we bought it and brought it home, had removed the "suspension spring and leader for the pendelum" and also had taken weights apart (inside of weights apart 🤦♀️) we ordered suspension spring and leader put weights back together and installed suspension spring and leader. Now we have it running but no chimes, do you have any thoughts to what might be issue? Thank you
Betty Smith make sure the heaviest weight is on your right as you face the clock. Look through the side and make sure the cable (if it is cable drive) is not over lapped on itself. Next make sure it is in the chime position. Seems simple but often overlooked. After that you will need to have it looked at, and serviced.
@@McGuiresClocksIncAustin we when acquired clock, the weights were taken apart,meaning inside of the weights was removed, we put them back together and believe we put heaviest weight on right outside. Clock runs keeps great time just won't chime, center weight is only one that is going down since we put in new suspension spring and leader. Oddly if we move the left leaver from silent to strike it makes 1 strick sound and that's the only time it makes any sound 🤔
Betty Smith all the left hand lever does is lift the strike hammers back out of the way. When you switch it into the strike position it drops the hammers down. This is why you are hearing it strike 1x

Would you have any idea why the chimes aren't sounding and why only the center weight is the one moving down, both outside weights are not moving down as normal when clock is running. We love the clock and was so excited to purchase it, we drove 2 hrs 1 way just to purchase it.
What the weights run Left: hour strike Center: time Right: chime So the outside 2 are not falling because the chime and strike are not working. It sounds like the clock is now set up properly, this means that there is a mechanical issue. The mechanical units are only good for 20-30 years depending on how well it has been serviced and what make the movement is.
I notice you are moving minute hand clock wise. Why does the manual for Howard Miller clocks say to move counter clock wise aka backwards? Is it safe to set the time going clock wise as well?
Jon Reynolds Yes it is safe to go forwards with the hands as long as you are stopping to let it chime and strike. Howard Miller probably feels there will be less customer error when turning the hands backwards as it is not supposed to chime.

Emery Clark's Animatronics Channel I agree! I got the St. Michael's and Whittington chimes messed up back the because I couldn't tell them apart. Now I can hear the difference between them.
