Well, bad boy had it rough, but some people can Atleast actually say that they made good before they left bad boy and was able to go on and someone else like 112, Faith, lil Kim, but then you got people, shit aint go AS great, maybe like Black Rob, G Dep going to Jail , Dream B5, Danity Kane and Day 26 and some others didn't go so far. In the music business or any job or any situation you're you, go through in life, you gotta know how to read the small print and make shit to sugar moves, because most entertainers on other labels got the same story
I just added a bunch of 112 songs to my Playlist... Amazing how these interviews spark up nostalgia and remind me of all the great 🎶 music I have forgotten about over the years... Salute
The curse means that the artist don’t see the fruit of their labor. Yes their album may sell well however the artist is usually still broke or in debt and fades off into obscurity.
Bad Boy was like a roster - you had A players and Z list players. The A players did well. Biggie estate is at 200million. Mase is still Mase. 112 great catalogue. Faith was crazy with the pen. The rest were one-hit wonders at best. That’s the industry. Shit Milli Vanilli fell off. Who remembers Rick Astley? That’s life. You maximise your opportunity.
@@onthetla I thought Biggie died broke ? Bad Boy had plenty great talent however it doesn’t seem like they were rewarded financially for their services . Dude seems tight with money
Yeah that’s messed up tho, he’s definitely talking about Daron which makes me sad! They are all so talented it’s a shame they couldn’t work through their differences
@Dominic Clarke that he begged P. Diddy to give him his masters and publishing rights. P. Diddy bought it from somehowere for $20K and Mase offered Puff $2 million, but Puffy wants to hold onto it. Mase started with Bad Boy when he was 19 years old. He's now 42 and the rights won't automatically go back to him until he turns 50. Mase was basically saying that he carried the label after Biggie died and that Puff didn't care and betrayed him anyway and screwed him out of money. What triggered Mase to bring it up, earlier this year, was that P. Diddy made a speech about how he loves black people.
@@jamelherring5359 50 - 19= 31, so that means that Mase has went a whopping 31 years without any rights to his work, and now he has about 8 more years to go until it automatically goes to him. That would be a total of 39 years of him losing out on the money from his 3 albums and countless features on other songs, that he could've been in his bank by now. Almost 4 decades of money! So, yes, the "Bad Boy" curse is REAL.
@@lorrainethomas1984 but that's not unusual... These artist sign as a gamble for the label. Most singers aren't even the force behind their songs so yeah, not getting publishing or writing rights for a song the label bought for you from another person, and gave to u with no guarantee of a real return on the investment.... That's about right. Lol The Lox pub isn't worth a dime, and he gave it back to them.
@@ScarlettFevers You're right and I understand what you're saying. However, the Artist that do write and produce their material still get a shady deal. Like Slim is saying 112 contributed to their own music. Daron is a producer just like devante produced for jodeci. Overall, the business side of the music industry is designed to work in favor of the label. Granted, the label does invest into artists but it's alot of shadiness. You hear of it more times than not. The Lox pub isn't worth much now however they had some success. No artist stays on top forever they all reach a peak.
@C Hardin o no..trust me I understand on a lower scale..I own 3 buildings in queens and Brooklyn and dealing with 9 tenants is a hassel sometimes, especially when they dont understand laws, agreements and business...lol.. I also know artist and producers that dealt with Puff in the 90s and they all tell me how corrupt the contracts are...trust me ive been around bro..im that guy from Brooklyn that likes money but dont want the attn, limelight and problems..for example:I'll stick with my hellcat and skip the BMWs and Bentleys..lol.paeace
French Montana was the first artist on bad boy records to keep his publishing. Puffy owned biggie’s- to everyone on bad till French publishing. Till this day instead of giving biggie’s kids or mom his publishing he keeps it and makes money off it. He’s an evil man, who paid 500k murder of Tupac shakur too
@@kasemalin3293 that doesn't make him evil. That's the business lol. Most Artist don't own all their masters. Plus you have a option to sign a contract
@@kasemalin3293 suge knight is 1000x worse than puffy.all of deathrow artists own shit.not even their house and cars lol tupac got few thousands in his bank account and some jewelries when he died.. thats all he had.
Any Lable that Focuses on the CEO as a Headliner, Up in the Videos (DANCING) will not Bode well for the Other Artists on that Label in the Long run!!!!
Any Label that Focuses on the CEO as the lead GANGSTER, all up on magazines (FRONTIN) like you a real life MOB PIRU, will note bode well in the long run.
Puff needs to thank God for Biggie for his success. Look how many other acts he fd over: Faith, 112, Mase, Loon, Lox, G-Dep, Da Band, the list goes on and on
112 probably one of the more consistent groups i didnt realize how long of a run they had thts rare...its jus shame nobody i know gave a fucc about these niggas they should be up there wit the goat groups...a 9 yr run for a group???? no breakups?? all hits?? unheard of
112 is the best group ❤ I love how he sings im a fan and one day I would like to go to a concert too bad I wasn’t grown when they were havin concerts back in the day😢
@@trawlins396 And you're even crazier. Sisqo and Jazz would sing this entire group to sleep, and that's without Woody and Nokio on the harmonies. Yep, I definitely said it.
112 should come back as a 1 group period..this will allow you guys to gain more respect and honor from Fans like me since day one album...so PLEASE understand this and convince other members to come back...i also bow to Jagged Edge group that stays like a group....I love good music and more.
One of the top Rn B groups in the world! After everything thats going on with our people they can't squash the foolishness and come together and make some great music Smh
@C Hardin, you're just a groupie. Them niggas don't give a fuck about you. You can have your celebrity worship...while on your mother's couch. Check the track record little boy. - Mad people trampled and killed at a Howard University show - Biggie, dead - Shyne, jail and deported - Loon, jail - G-Dep, drugs and jail - Craig Mack, was the jump off for Bad Boy, got put on the back burner, joined a cult - Faith, 2 albums and is now known for being a reality star And the list goes on. Puff has a bad energy that follows him. 112 may be the only exception. Know what you're talking about before you speak. Go fuck yourself and have a nice day.
There breakup kinda da reminds me of the New Edition situation a little bit it still crazy how Johnny Gill and Ralph own the trademark more so in johnny case he was the last to join. I hope they can work it and become a group again
Vlad tried to push the "Bad Boy Curse" rhetoric and Slim wasn't having it. Conforming to the guest is essential rather than catering to what's controversial.
I wonder why Vlad didn't ask Slim about the song "Everyday" on their fourth album. It was a direct hit at Diddy imo and clearly there was some beef with him at some point
The Puff curse is real anybody that was ever associated with Bad Boy Records you don't hear from anymore 112 Shyne Total Mase Black Rob Loon just came home from prison G-Dep RIP BIG RIP Craig Mack The Lox got out of there before anything could happen to them
No disrespect to Slim but there should NOT be a “lead singer” in 112 and definitely shouldn’t have been Slim.. but I get the whole “different voice” thing... apparently it worked. I personally prefer Ron or Mike on lead
People don’t know but Slim kinda eluded to it when he said he didn’t have a choice. What happened was that the 112 contract was TRADED to Def Jam for the Foxy Brown contract.
@@phyliso I know but yal still east coast and dont front yal get certain styles from us half my family from brooklyn and far Rockaway lives and owns houses in Atlanta we love yal
112 is apart of the Badboy curse even though they went Platnium the inner conflicts and division can be associated with the trials and tribuations of being a Badboy artist .
