How does it twist affect the ball's release and trajectory?
A lot of slingshot shooters do twist their pouch under draw.
In the past, there have been theories that a pouch twist could help the slingshot shoot her a void fork hits. We now know that for kids are nearly always the result of a release problem. The pouch twist is unlikely to change that.
So does it hurt to twist the pouch up to 90°?
Now, we are not looking at super slow-mo slingshot footage to prove this, but looking down range at groupings on the target is what matters most in real world slingshot shooting situations.
While shooting through the forks, there is very rarely any reason at all for a pouch twist when holding the slingshot sideways (gangster style). However, if a slight pouch twist on your slingshot bands causes you to have a better purchase or a better cheek weld to your anchor point, this could be a serious advantage.
Now, what about situation when the slingshot shooter is driving past the cheek to the year or even farther. Nathan demonstrates here in the video how when he draws past his standard anchor point on his cheek, he puts approximately a 45° twist into his band set at full draw.
In no way does this detrimentally affect the shot. As we often say, it's what works best for you that matters most. If a pouch twist while you are slingshot shooting helps you shoot more consistently, then by all means go for it. Our opinion is you will not cause any problems to your slingshot shooting if you use up to a 90° pouch twist.
Some slingshot shooters, due to an injury or lack of motion or flexibility, need to put a pouch twist into the slingshot draw to make it possible. Again, no problem.
Like we always say, consistency is key. If you're using a pouch twist, use it consistently. If you are not using a pouch twist when shooting a slingshot, do that consistently. Accuracy and success will follow.
