@@hettyqueensberg4744 Hi There I used it for a long while and had length retention that is for sure. But I stopped using it because of the mineral oil content. I ended up with a lot of build up on my hair and scalp. If you have already purchased it feel free to use it but perhaps look into a mineral free alternative in future purchases. xox

I use okra gel not only for detangling but also for styling my curls or reducing frizz by sealing my twists with it. Also for DIY conditioners with honey 😊.
@Sunshine_Hime
@Sunshine_Hime 2 года назад
@Free I add olive oil into the okra gel, and honey, when using it as a DIY conditioner. As a styler I've used it both alone and adding oil on top. It does harden a bit when it's dry on my twists and makes them frizz-free BUT there are no flakes and my hair is shiny. I think it's because I make the gel from the mucilage of fresh okra, and not a powder that I would have to strain a lot to avoid tiny flakes. Also if I spray water on my strands it becomes slimy again and I can detangle my hair with it before wash day, it rinses off very easily. Oh and be careful not to leave the gel in your hair for more than a week, I saw a video were the girl explained that it will start to go bad in the hair, and even in the fridge, since it's a DIY recipe with no preservatives. That's why I make a big batch, take what I need at the moment and freeze the rest for future use.

curly P, the use of the okra pod I find is best. I buy the whole okra or the frozen cut okra, boil for about 5-7 minutes (depending on how much you have in the pot) and when the water has gelled, I strain off the gel and wahlah! I have pure okra gel. The remaining okra I add onions and seasonings and eat my belly full! lol No waste. A good vegetable and hair growth all in one!

When you mentioned Palm oil, I started craving Nigerian okra soup made with palm oil, seasoning, whatever protein (fish, meat) etc and eaten with any morsel but uhhh, hair needs food as well. Lol. Okra powder is readily available in Nigeria but one can save the okra heads or whatever it's called, soak for some hours and use the water. The water can be used to also make leave-in conditioner, Unive hair soleil on RU-vid has a video on this and it's great!

I used to boil frozen chopped okra in a pot of water and after a few minutes of boiling, I would allow it to cool, then strain it. It made an excellent gel-like substance that I used to detangle my hair. I haven't tried Ambunu yet, but I have been researching it.

Thank you for this video. I’ve heard great things about okra as a detangler, but I’ve never tried it. This is my first time ever hearing of ambunu. My absolute favorite detangler is the gel from a fresh aloe vera leaf. The slip is next level and a large leaf costs approximately U.S. $1.50. I have mid back length hair and I can usually get 2 or 2.5 uses out of one leaf.

Love this topic. Detangling is a challenge. Side note: the word nerd in me in me can't help but share that the C in mucilage has an S sound like muu-see-lege. Just saying.
@coriebarnes8680
@coriebarnes8680 2 года назад
You have to remember that CP is from the UK. They have particular accents and the way they pronounce words is different. It's the same with the way she pronounces vitamins. It would be the same if you were to visit other countries. You would sound out words differently than they do in their culture. It's common and doesn't mean it's wrong. So you might want to give her some grace. This is not the time or place to be the grammar police. It's really a minor issue and those of us who've been following her for years know and appreciate her command of the English language.
@nedume.2223
@nedume.2223 2 года назад
@@coriebarnes8680 I knew someone might take offense and accuse me of being grammar police. Sharing knowledge doesn't mean you're policing anyone. Its not a personal attack and the pronunciation of this word is usually based on people's personal frame of knowledge or lack thereof because most words starting in muc- have medical or scientific usage. So, most wouldn't know how to pronounce them. I have that familiarity and shared. Muc- followed by i or e has the s sound I mentioned; muc- followed by o, a, and maybe u has the k sound she used. Had I put that in my initial comment that would be grammar policing as you say. I'm a bibliophile and a word nerd. I don't mind being corrected on my grammar and actually like learning new things, if I'm interested. Relax. No need to police people's RU-vid etiquette when they're not being trolls.
@coriebarnes8680
@coriebarnes8680 2 года назад
@@nedume.2223 Regardless of how you spin it, you WERE correcting her pronunciation of a word. And it was unnecessary! Whether you are a word nerd, grammar police, or whatever, sometimes silence is a virtue. You don't always have to point things out. We are here for hair content, not how CP pronounces words in her own cultural language or dialect. We all understand her, so what's your point? It's just not a helpful comment that contributes to the discussion. Your comment is a backhanded slap. You compliment then proceed to correct her on what "you" perceive is wrong. If you are going to have a problem with the way she pronounces words, maybe you shouldn't watch any of the content creators from the UK or any other country for that matter. Because everyone speaks differently, and to the best of their ability. Live and let live. We are all unique in our own ways. And with over 315,000 subbies, we've heard her say the word "mucilage" plenty. We're all fine with it and understand what she's saying. There are times when good judgement should be exercised. This is one of them. I've made my points. Have a good day. Peace out. ☮️
@nedume.2223
@nedume.2223 2 года назад
@@coriebarnes8680 I got your point the first time. Yes. It is a common pronunciation outside of the medical community and across different cultures since I've heard Americans and others alike, that don't have the medical background I mentioned, say it that way. I've been corrected by doctors I work with on terminology. I was merely explaining the basis of my original comment since you shared your concerns. Didn't say you were wrong. Just don't care for your tone in either instance. Maybe my correction wasn't needed, but neither was your tone. Also, I prefer your argument on the basis of judgment than cultures. That one makes sense. If silence is a virtue, than honesty isn't. You have a nice day too.

@@nedume.2223 I wouldn’t worry about it. Both the appropriate pronunciation in US or UK is in fact myoo - si - layge It drives me nuts when people use ‘k’ because of the word ‘mucous’. I realize it’s simple unabashed ignorance since, come on 🥴 besides using plants in our hair, how often do we use this word on a daily basis? We don’t, so I get it. And it doesn’t make it any less annoying.

I use okra gel at every wash day sometimes I mix it with fenugreek, rose petals and hibiscus tea. I usually cook my okra with onions and garlic and a bunch of other herbs, oregano, basil, thyme.... and others depending on what soup or stew I'm making. Needles to say, I don't waste anything.
