"I don't know if I would have put that together without reading the lyrics" of course you would have not. You couldn't even tell which part of the song they were in for god sakes man. A singer who doesn't know how songs work lmao. Also it's really obvious how you try to stretch your videos to milk that sweet sweet ad revenue.
Slipknot is just one of those bands that you think are weird if you're not used to it.. All it takes is liking one song to end up liking them all. They're class.
Slipknot "rapping" isn't anything new - they were at the forefront of the Nu-Metal scene. Korn and Kottonmouth Kings for instance were one side of the spectrum, while Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park were at the other end of the spectrum. Slipknot was always right in the middle, which is probably why they've enjoyed their longevity.
That breakdown is one of the best I've ever heard. The background vocals with the start of the main lyrics is tight; never heard a natural vocal layering/doubling like that before.
The rapping like that isn't anything new with them their first album is almost all that. Listen to "Spit It Out" from the first album. Also "SIC" from it. But seriously, Spit It Out will blow your mind. 🤘🏻🔥🖤🤘🏻 It'll make your head tilt back with your eyes like 👁👁 lol
"Metal Rap" as you said is called "Nu Metal". It's a metal genre that uses a lot of hip hop elements like rapping and beat. Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, and many others were major mainstream pioneers of this genre in the 90's and early 2000's. Slipknot has always been a Nu Metal band that has switched between Metal Core and Nu Metal constantly.

and before nu metal there were rapmetal like Clawfinger... in the late 90's. And i really want a reaction to their biggest the best song.. and one more, but no youtuber want to do that. :D
Slipknot has done more than numetal & metalcore, alt rock, acoustic rock, sometimes close to death metal. Usually very eclectic, very loud metal bands that dabble in metal/rock genres get called Extreme Metal, and Slipknot has definitely transcended the Nu-Metal label, as have most of the better bands of that era
if you loved classic mid 90's slipknot this is like opening a time capsule and them returning to their roots(meaning they always find ways to reinvent themselves) THIS is classic slipknot energy. Btw the keg will forever be one of the craziest instruments thats ever been used in a band to positive effect.
The keg is a staple in their songs. But the drummer is just out of this world and it’s a damn shame they let him go. Really good guy met him one and he was all about meeting a fan I’ll say that much.
As Triple Four has pointed out, Nu Metal was huge around the turn of the millennium and into the early 2000's. Nero Forte is nearly a "throwback" to Slipknot (self titled), Iowa and even a few tracks from Subliminal Verses. Basically, Ray, you are getting old school Slipknot to some degree, with Corey's frenetic delivery of the verses. The song title is nearly tongue in cheek if you break it down- Nero, the Emperor who watched Rome burn, and forte, someone's strong point- really drives home that Corey no longer has affection for the ex he wrote this about.
BTW, Shawn has always utilized a keg as one of his percussive instruments. Despite the fact he has developed carpal tunnel from the bashing over the years, it's a staple sound that is found in many Slipknot tracks.
This was one of my favorites off this album. I would love if you checked out some Mudvayne if you get the chance. If you want to start where everyone else does, do Dig. If you want some guttural screams and clean vocals, Death Blooms and Severed are the way to go.
the bridge section is so cool.....if you read them you will see both a linear lyric thing, and a chanting thing that actually is a complete sentence vertically...hard to explain, just gotta read it...
Allow me. Read the bits in parentheses going down, and you'll get the lyric in question: (Why) was it easy for you (Did) I deserve the abuse (I) can't believe I let it (Not) what I wanted (See) through your bullshit (Your)'e so dramatic (True) to your (Face) every consequence (Un)intimidated (Til) the very end (It)'ll never happen (Was) it all a lie (Too) many motherfuckin' (Late) That's what you do best! (Lie) That's what you do best! (Lie) That's what you do best!!! The syncopation of beat and lyric here is also genius.
If you dive deeper into their older stuff the rap elements wouldn't be quite as surprising, they have always had strong "rap metal" elements in their music. That's why a lot of long time fans were so excited about this album, in a sense it was more similar to their original style.
i did not know that listening to slipknot can really hurt your neck.... THE HEADBANGING IS REAL. now i'm in the hospital (not for the neck, but for therapy... i can't stop listening to slipknot) HELP!!!!!
Mick's eyes are panty droppers.. I do it all the time.. It shows a controlled aggression. That breakdown tho... when they are just jamming... Gives me chills.
Taylor spits a few bars every now and then. If you wanna hear a cool one from them that has wrapped in it, I highly suggest “Slipknot - Spit It Out (live at Download).”
@rayactions Ray! You mentioned metal rapping 🤪 I believe the pioneers of that sound were Rage Against the Machine 🤪 try the song Wake Up… It definitely has a powerful message like all of their songs, and is quite emotional. If you like it, there are plenty of other RATM songs that you can react to. They are an incredibly talented band!
The best growl rap hands down is Amaranthe's BOOM1! not even close I love Corey Taylor but GG6 has him beat. Plus the video has zombies being slaughtered what's not to love lol
Anyone remember before content creators copied each other into mediocrity and you’d get singer reacts videos where they would bulletpoint the songs with technical insight….now we just get a singer just literally reacting to the song, adding nothing and observing the obvious.
I agree with you. Part of what I love about Slipknot is the musical variety. I hear many people wish they stuck to their old sound from the first three albums, and while I understand change is hard to deal with and I love those first 3 albums, I personally love music and the wide variety of thier sound keeps me coming back for more. Just this maggot's $0.02.
Actually, Slipknot's entire self-titled, first album - and a lot of "IOA", their second album, as well - had a lot of aggressive Metal rap on it. That's what they were known for until they started bringing in a lot more melodic elements into their music. So the Rap thing isn't new at all to Slipknot. They have elements of it now but the first two albums had the most aggressive "Rapping" on them. Listen to the very first song, "Sic," on the first album, and "The Heretic" from their second album, "IOA". You'll hear that they've been doing that Rap thing from the start.
