Oh I'm with you on that, as time goes on the die cast cars have gotten more detailed. Way more expensive though, I am modeling trains and some of the disaster for that is insane.. I always stop in the car section in every store that might have one.. just to look, really appreciate you watching.
You are not a senior just a big kid at heart.👍. I'm 57 and work at a small stone quarry , mostly the front end loader but sometimes the 6 wheel drive truck, D 6 dozer and the plant so I tell everyone ( especially kids) I still play with Tonka toy only real ones. I am slowly going to do a train lay out and thinking about getting remote control excavator, dozer and such.
@@jeffharper7579 well said Jeff, we're all big kids at heart. I do trains on my other channel. Link in description.. hope you get a layout started.. and remote loader would be awesome.. appreciate you watching
Good morning Pappy, great video! Hobby lobby does have quite abit of starter kits and extras for the quick grab or even the beginner. I remember when I was a kid years ago my parents got me this US Trucking slot car set. It was really cool. However trains took over 🤷♂️😅 Thanks for sharing. Have a good day and stay safe. Happy modeling!! - Jason
Thanks Jason, I remember that trucking set. It was awesome. Hobby lobby dosnt have a lot but like you said good for beginner sets, but I do like their selection of modeling supplies. Appreciate you watching, Happy modeling
$2.69 for a bottle of Testors ! I can remember when it was $ 0..15 ( 15 cents ) per bottle . An AMT 3 in 1 Trophy series 1/25th scale model kit went for $1.79 plus tax . The Sixties and early Seventies were a great time to build models .
My brother's in the 70s built a ton of car and plane models.. I myself later in the 80s built a few car models. Remember maybe 50 cents per bottle of paint. Cray prices 5hese days but that now sadly is the average.. appreciate you watching
I remember buying an F-15 Strike Eagle model kit along with all the paints, brushes, and glue, I needed for $10 back in the mid to late 90s. (Also, it would’ve been $0.15/ bottle. $0.015 is a penny and a half. Just sayin’.)
Shout out for sure Jerry, anytime.... 👍 hobby lobby usually has something that can help your projects in a pinch. I love those sections, wish they had more actual train hobby stuff though.. be cool to see them offer a railcar or 2..or a house model, glad you enjoyed the video. And always appreciate you watching..
Yeah Dave, it's definitely more of a crafty store that the ladies like, but they gotcabout 4 or 5 isles for the fellas. Got some cool signs for the garage too. Next time she goes, take a stroll. Bet ya find something 🤣🤣 appreciate you watching
Long , long ago Hobby Lobby was a mail order hobby store, lots of radio control plane stuff. They even had a radio control with there name on it. Not sure what ever happen to them or if the now a days store are one of the same , but back in the day they didn't sell couches
Thats pretty cool, didn't know they had mail order back then, I've only ever known them as a box store, there's definitely more craft stuff than there is what most considers to be hobby stuff. Appreciate you watching
The Hobby Lobby craft store in this video was founded by David Green. The online "Hobby Lobby" (no longer in business) that sold rc related products was founded by Jim Martin. They are/were two separate and unrelated business entities. I do recall making a few orders from the Hobby Lobby rc catalog, along with Tower Hobbies, and Omni Models. My local Hobby Lobby, I know this can be confusing, has a decent supply of hobby stuff and "toy" grade rc. I mainly go for the model cars (40% Off), glue, and paints. Although I have purchased a couple of the Bachmann N scale train sets and some of the HO slot cars.
Cool thank you, that's why I love the comments. I always learn something.. I definitely love when they do the 40% sales. Appreciate this comment and you watching
I still collect model cars and I am almost at retirement age. I found some good ones at Ollies. I bought a Hess truck for myself and gave it to myself for Christmas. One of the hobbies I want to spend time on when I finally stop working 40-50 hr weeks is to build model cars to keep me busy in the winter months.
Hi ya Jimmy, that's awesome, on my other channel, I play with trains, so I'm with ya. Models, die-cast, train or car layouts, are awesome definitely a great retirement thing to keep us busy.. and a great feeling of accomplishment.. I never thought to look at Ollie's for stuff, may have to stop in and see what they have.. appreciate you watching, Happy modeling...
Thats awesome, good to hear your still collecting, I use to collect all the hot wheels. Got outta hand, now I just look for the Ford ones. And on my other channel I do model trains, so I'm still looking at hot wheels and die-cast. Glad you enjoyed the video, appreciate you watching
Wow I think you got the good Hobby Lobby. Mine is big and stocked full of stuff and always busy, but almost no modeling stuff. It's all lame home decor
Really Bill ? We have 3 stores with in 15 mins, some have less than others but they all have a decent selection.. thought they were all the same, appreciate you watching
@PappysPotluck Yes Pappy. There is one at Wheeling at The Highlands up the Road from Cabelas and there is also one in Parkersburg. My wife loves going there. Me and Jebb immediately head to the Hobby Section lol.
Nice, thats a goid size, mines just a typical afx style 1/64 just something fun the wife and I can running on. I'll have to check some of my other hobby stores for more cars and tracks. Appreciate you watching
That sucks, been seeing alot of what you said in these comments, the 3 that are close to me are close to the same with what they have. The 1 has a bit less. Hope that don't happen here, appreciate you watching.
Thats awesome Rick, you guys gonna have fun. Definitely will make a good memory for him.. I'll have to do a video of my track for ya.. thanks for watching
Wait.... did you just say Atlas track.. wow. That's awesome you still have that.. my dad long time ago sold all my atlas track in a yard sale while I was at school.. 🤣🤣 you wanna talk about Mad... I'll have to do a video on my track I shown I'm the video.. I have a few auto world cars I bought a few years back, bur haven't bought any new ones on a while.. I appreciate you watching..
I'm not sure if our Hobby Lobby has these items or not, but I'm looking for that section next time we're there. Usually we're there for something the wife needs, and haven't really branched out much. Appreciate the info and for taking us on the browsing tour. Great job as always bro.!!
Definitely take a look next time your there, each one has slightly more different things, some more than others.. glad you enjoyed the video, always appreciate you watching
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. I do have some great 1: 18th scale movie cars ill have to show. IL be checking out some of your videos, really appreciate your support. Thank you for watching
Thats awesome, that was a cool car.. there are some great ones there that I wanted to buy.. but had to restrain myself, I got so many collections I gotta stop emptying my wallet.. 🤣🤣 .. glad you enjoyed the video, appreciate you watching
Thats cool, I have gotten a few things there myself, does your store have as much as I shown in this one. Some folks said they don't have as much I their store.. appreciate you watching
@@PappysPotluck depends on the store we have 2 good size ones here and each one has a different assortment of products, so I hit both there is a 3rd on the other side of town I goto once in a while..some of what you showed the one store has , the other one has more scenic stuff and also way more model kits, tanks, cars,,planes etc.. the third one has smaller variety..
Very cool Pappy. I love these types of tours! I am not only into trains but, also model car kits! I try to limit my collection of die cast 1/64 scale models, tough when I model (Trains) S scale and some ho! (Dave).
Thanks Dave, I have a few collections that has gotten out of control. Been trying to do better.. 🤣🤣 but it's nice that hobby lobby has a good supply of modeling supplies to pick from if you got no where else to go.. wish they had more train stuff though.. glad you enjoyed the video, appreciate you watching
Morning Mark, sorry to hear that.. I have gotten a couple of comments saying similar things. Was surprised. Thought all stores would be similar. The stores here (central Ohio) have more or less but always something. Appreciate the comment and you watching.
Thank you, I didn't notice the car body in the package, I had to pause it and really look at it. that's a good idea, you can paint it any way you like.. appreciate you pointing that out. And you watching..
Thats awesome, so glad I could show it to you, I barely touched on any of what they actually have for arts and crafts. Hobby Lobby has rows and rows of crafty stuff. Glad I could share.. appreciate you watching
I'm an old school guy, and used to run the 1/24th lexan "wing cars" cars years ago. I still have one, but nobody has the big tracks in my area any longer.☹️
Yeah my dad took me to a few big tracks when I wad a kid, it was awesome to watch. But I don't know of any places that that still operate them. I would love to see that again.. appreciate you watching
Hobby Lobby is about the only show in town for hobby supplies in my area, all the old hobby shops are gone. They have a good selection of paints and tools, but slot car stuff is limited. They only carry AutoWorld HO slot cars, and they are the old pancake style which are slow and de-slot easily. The inline AFX Mega G+ are the best major brand ones out there now and Hobby Lobby does not carry any AFX. There are other smaller companies out there also like Viper Scale Racing. Those cars are incredibly fast and hug the track.
Oh wow, thanks for the info, as I havnt kept up on the slot car world, I run mine here and there but havnt bought any cars in a while. But I'd like a few new ones I'm going to look into your recommendations.. plus I need to tune up the ones I got.. really appreciate this comment and you watching
I am amazed that Autoworld is now a dominant "brand" on the slot car rack. They started as mail order. My brother and I pooled our money around summer of '69 and bought an Aurora set from the AW catalog (the AW catalog was like the old J.C. Whitney car parts catalog - onion skin paper). I had an Aurora Baja Bronco - exactly like the one they sell today. A year ago I donated all my HO track and cars to a young man at work that is a great modeler. I know it's in good hands.
Thats pretty cool, I miss those typed of magazines. Especially JC Whitney.. very cool of you to donate your stuff, things are so pricey these days, I'm sure he appreciated it. As I appreciate you watching..
Glad I could share it with you, hope you have a similar experience. I been seeing folks leave comments that some of their stores don't carry some of this stuff.. You'll have to let me know.. I appreciate you watching.
Thank you, really appreciate it.. hope your store has some good stuff. I'm going to do another video of some different stores and see what they have.. appreciate you watching. I'll stop by and check you out as well
I love this section at Hobby lobby, but not much else in the store for me.. but it definitely has a little something for everyone. Appreciate you watching and commenting..
🤣🤣🤣 good catch Dan, I seen the snap on car at the same time as Napa and blended the 2, I myself got a kick out of it.. glad you enjoyed the video, always appreciate you watching
@@PappysPotluck It's a popular AFX Datsun reissue, plus iwheels version (on my bucket list), that's why it jumped out at me. Sold out for $49 on their site and now around $100 on Ebay. The normal version was $29 and I think it sold out very fast too..
I like hobby lobby because they have a lot of items that you can’t get at a typical hobby shop. I love the selection of tools, paint, and scenery items they carry.
I went to the Hobby Lobby in Grand Junction, Colorado a few years ago SPECIFICALLY for slot cars, trains and scale models. They had NOTHING. It was a giant "craft store." I left with nothing.
I finally went back into hobby lobby after not going in years, the place looked no different than Michael’s with less than four small sections of models and supplies . Sad they put my local hobby shops out of business. In the beginning they had a huge RC, planes , cars, boats helicopters etc . Now pfft nothing
Yeah I live not too far from Modesto California and their store had one slot car on the shelf basically look like the craft section at Walmart I asked a woman who is stalking the shelves in the train section which was really small and she said it's just corporate it's Hit or Miss sometimes they'll have a lot of something and then it's gone a week later
@evilbeetlekustomscreations4965 my dad lives about 2 hours away, the next time I go visit, I'm going to check out his store and see if they have the same amount there, or is it like some of what you folks are saying.. appreciate you watching
All the Hobby Lobbies near me have 1:24 scale model kits and die cast cars for days, but nothing at all in 1:32. I was able to find a 1:24 scale Mopar body for racing at the club, but I never see anything I can use for my home track.
Yes that is true for the 70s on up generation but the history of the panel van goes way back, and the old timers while i was growing up still called it a panel van, even the Ford pinto cruising wagon was called a panel van because North American panel vans were initially based upon the 2 door station wagon models, while Europe's narrower roads dictated that panel vans utilize the smaller donor chassis of subcompact cars in that market. I do appreciate you watching..
I got back into modeling a few years ago. As I mentioned in another video, the Hobby Lobby near me, south of Boston, has 40% off models every other week. They have a good selection, well equipped with other modeling items. Staff is very nice and the store is well organized.
Definitely is a plus to have friendly staff, and my wife just recently told me abut their 40% sales, that's awesome. I'm going to go check in more often and see what's up.. appreciate you watching, and the comment..
Thats awesome, even with the manual... wish I had my old sets. I had the smoky and the bandit set and the TCR trucking set.. they were amazing. Appreciate you watching
Cool glad I could share it with you.. hope your store has close to what ares has, some folks saying their stores don't have half this.. good luck.. and really appreciate you watching..
Hobby Lobby only sells what they can pick up cheap...then they mark it up to full retail. Testors spray cans of paint: the little cans are $8-$11 !! For the little can? Really? And $2.69 for the little square bottles! Most of their stuff is from China and isn't marked in English! Thanks to stores like them, they've driven the little hobby shops out of business. 😢
Pricing these days does really suck. Can't argue that. Definitely sad the mom and pop hobby stores are fading inti history.. they were the best.. hobby lobby stuff may be pricey, but if you really need it now in the middle of a project. It's at least an option for those who have no other outlet.. its definitely gonna get a lot worse.. I really appreciate you watching
Oh, I thought that Canada had a few.. thats interesting.. as you seen its not the best place for a lot of modeling stuff but when its all you got it's good to have.. but the supply of model cars was decent.. appreciate you watching. I'll stop in and check out what you have as well..
Can't argue that, but in my area, the Walmart is always empty shelves, or no selection. Yeah you'll pay a buck or 2 more at HL but at last there's a good selection to look at or pick from.. otherwise I would definitely get them at Walmart.. I appreciate the comment and you watching
The real story on Hobby Lobby 1/64 scale slot cars is price. Almost all go for $19.99, about $15 cheaper than other online sources for the same cars. The day to day selection isn’t great, but if you check regularly, they’ll have new cars from time to time.
Thank you Thomas, after looking about the net, I have noticed the same cars. Just like you said, are more expensive plus shipping. Definitely will be frequently check back for new stock, appreciate the info and you watching
Anybody seen at Hobby Lobby an HO slot car in kit form? I could have sworn that I saw something similar to the "pit kits" but it had a body molded in clear plastic and also had a motor. I am not sure what brand it was.
Oh sorry, I can see why you think that.. but that's not a bad idea for another video.. bit I hope you still liked the video, appreciate you taking the time to watch..
I did not know that was a thing on the day I made this video. But reading thru comments. People like you asked the same thing. So I went back a few days later and it was gone. But there was a different car there with white wheels. So 9 purched that one. Is the white wheels the chase indicator.. appreciate you watching
This trip I didn't buy any thing, we were having a slot car discussion and I just wanted to show a few of those folks what my store had. Is the white lightning a special one.. 🤔 I havnt kept up on what's good these days, appreciate you watching
Sad to say you are right, problem with ebay is every one thinks they have something special and want way to much money and always over charge you for shipping. So you really gotta want it if your shopping on ebay. Since posting this video I been told they stock the slot cars very often so I should check back every other week to see what's new. And for 20 bucks, witch is cheaper than a towards website. It may be worth a stop in from time to time.. appreciate you watching..
I do catch your shorts on that.. that's a great idea.. I just uploaded a new hobby lobby video stop back this Wednesday.. these stores I found lock up the slot cars and you can't see what they truly have.. thanks for watching
You do you, that's what I believe. But could you educate me on the why's of this comment. I have had similar comments. But no one explains why, or what any religion has to do with shopping at a certain store. This is a sincere question.. thank you for watching
Hobby Lobby is a sad disappointment 😮💨 they should call themselves CRAFT World , or something like that. Train & Slot Car stuff is basic and generic ... luckily, they have other Art Supplies i can use for other interests
I've complained about the same thing to my wife. The little section I shown in this video is the true word of Hobby, not a store full of picture frames and plastic flowers. And this store is all some folks have to go to besides the internet. So if it's all they get then at least it's something.. thanks for watching, and this comment
Do agree more craft than hobby this store more stocked than ours if u can believe it we do have one hobby store in our town but it is getting harder to find true hobby stores
Ah the good ol days, yeah my brothers would buy a Ton of models with their paper route money. I always bought hot wheels.. Definitely pricing kids out of the hobby. Appreciate you watching
@@williamjoyal3553 your not lying. The die cast cars definitely were. But if your looking for a certain one and this is the place you find it. You'll probably spend it.. But the slot cars are a good price.. thanks for coming along, appreciate you watching
@PappysPotluck Yeah Pappy, you can't believe everything on the internet. If there's something there that I want then I'm gonna save some money and buy it. Places like this and Menards are Bargain Stores for Train Lovers.
