Slot.it oXigen Type C chip Demonstration

In one unscripted POV take, I show how the oXigen Type C chip can be reprogrammed for oXigen, Scalextric Digital, and Carrera Digital, and controlled by the OEM controllers with nothing more than an app on your smart phone/device. No need to make any modifications to the car when changing to a different type of track, and no need for a slot.it controller when using the car on Scalextric Digital or Carrera Digital tracks. After reprogramming the car acts just like a Scalextric Digital car, or a Carrera Digital car.

Well done, Greg. This is a great option for those who have several tracks of different types in their area.

Nice, I have a bunch of analog cars for my Scalextric digital , didn't want to chip them all, however, I might consider chipping some after watching this video. Thanks for the awesome demonstration.

Well, if you primarily use those cars for the fun of running some laps, rather than racing them against other cars with other people, then it makes sense to leave them analog. This chip is mainly for those who do, or hope to, race on multiple types of digital tracks. For example, my group, DRAWW, has members with both SSD and Carrera digital tracks. This chip will be great for us.

@@ggaub I'd like to eventually join club racing, however there doesn't seem to be a strong following here near Murfreesboro/Nashville, TN for 1/32. We have a couple 1/24 commercial circuit and drag tracks around, but no 1/32 tracks. Debating on trying those for the club race experience. My wife got me the Scalextric Digital Platnium with 4 cars/controllers last Christmas and now I have 24 cars..Mostly Slot-it, some NSR and Revo-slot and a couple Fly trucks, all analog. S i'm heavy into 1/32.

@@supertechvecog Sometimes you just have to be the guy that starts it. :) Even if it's just getting friends/family/neighbors over for some friendly racing on the garage floor every so often. Hopefully you can get a permanent track set up somewhere, and race as often as you like. Eventually, you end up finding more people, or the people that accept your invitation get the bug and do the same thing. Next thing you know, you've got a club. :)

@ggaub
@ggaub 5 лет назад
Don't be sad. :) I don't think we'll be switching to these right away, like I said before. They're considerably more expensive than a standard chip. Though, to save money, one chip could be moved from one series car to the next when we complete one series and prepare for the next one.

@@ggaub one more thing. Regarding the controller you are using. What is the part number as I've come across many different Oxigen controllers. Also would I need any additional items besides the controller and Type C chip to run on my Scalextric digital track. Thanks for any info.
@ggaub

You only need the slot.it controller for oXigen. If using on SSD or Carrera you can use the OEM controllers.

I ask this question because I bought 2 Slot-it Ferrari F40's car are identical except for Livery, i chipped one for Scalextrix digital, I like how it runs, however it seem to effect the the response as being a bit too peppy off the line, like the throttle is too sensitive. I like the way the non-chipped motor responds better. Not sure if this is just the nature of digitally chipped cars.

Things are a bit different from when my brother and I played with our Aurora cars in the attic. Those early cars I think we’re called thunder jets and they were propelled with a vibrating reed going up and down across a gear on the back axle.
@ggaub
@ggaub 7 месяцев назад
T-Jets are still around and still big. HO scale is too small for digital, really. I also have a little bit of HO, and had some as a kid. T-Jets are "pancake" motors, I believe. The ones you're thinking of are literally called Vibrators, and came before ThunderJets. A lot of new cars use standard brushed DC motors that are very small. There's still lots of active HO racing out there, if you want to find some and get back into it. :)

Greg The adapters used in the video were they purchased or did you build them yourself in order to have continues power to the track.
@ggaub
@ggaub Год назад
Those are DIY using XLR plugs. Our analog club uses XLR for the controllers to avoid incoorectly hooking up and damaging the controller. So, making a plug that channels full power through the controller jack was the easiest solution.

Hi Greg, Thank you for this video :) Have you made a video for something as basic as pairing the scp-3 controller with the Type C chip?

SCP201e - The Universal Digital Cartridge. Note that brakes can only be changed by the CU, so the brake knob on the controller does nothing when used with Carrera Digital.

An oXigen track is the same as an analog track, except the power goes directly to the rails, not through analog controllers. You also need magnets under the finish line, and lane changers. Refer to the oXigen manual on slot.it for specific information on the magnets.

Can you use oXigen to run analog cars on digital track (Carrera)?
@ggaub
@ggaub 4 года назад
You want to put a standard analog car onto a standard Carrera Digital track and control it some how? That's not possible with any technology that I'm aware of. There are mods that you can do to the track that will let you run analog cars on it, though, effectively turning it into an analog track.

Amazing. Congrats! One question, does it works in ninco digital too? Please say yes..... 🙏
@ggaub
@ggaub 5 лет назад
Sadly, Ninco dropped digital a while ago, and slot.it did not include it. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I would think it could be done with firmware. They just don't have enough reason to do so.

@ggaub 5 лет назад
I can't disagree with you, there. The tech looks solid, but I've never raced on Ninco digital. It certainly can't hurt to ask Slot.it if it's possible to add Ninco with just firmware, or if the hardware can't support it. I know that Ninco chips need to be able to send data through the braids into the track, so it might not be possible without hardware changes, which they'd be much less likely to do.

Hi On my Carrera track the car goes the opposite direction. Slot.it car. On scalextric direction is correct. Why is it like this?
@ggaub
@ggaub 3 года назад
Carrera digital uses opposite polarity from most other systems, but you don't mention digital or analog, or what kind of chip is in the car, or any of that, which can make a difference as to what the problem is. Have you installed a slot.it oXigen Type-C chip into a slot.it car? Are you putting it on a Carrera Digital track? Have you made sure it has the Carrera firmware installed? Are you using it as an oXigen car? Did you set the polarity screw to the AC position, or is it still on the DC position as it comes from factory?
@clausbjerga2745
@clausbjerga2745 3 года назад
Greg Gaub Oxigen 0201c1 chip. Ac position since I use it on my scalextric track. It a slot. It car and one Pioneer car. Installed Carrera firmware. Cannot do it the way you do it, have to put a magnet under the hall sensor. To much of a hassle I think. Maybe we are talking about two different chip? Thanks for your fast reply:)
@ggaub
@ggaub 3 года назад
@@clausbjerga2745 @Claus Bjerga OK, that's interesting. If it's in AC mode, it shouldn't matter. I know that programming can be strange in some cases. The reason I went from Scalextric to Carrera was because it didn't always want to go into programming mode if I tried to go from Carrera to Scalextric. You'll also see at the end, I had to turn the car around to get it into programming mode on a pure DC track... doesn't make much sense if it's in AC mode, eh? Are you using the slot.it app, or the nordic app? Have you made sure you have the latest firmware from slot.it? There's good help for these issues on slotforum.com, and slot.it will often help directly. It might not be a bad idea to post this issue there if it persists with the latest firmware.
@clausbjerga2745
@clausbjerga2745 3 года назад
Greg Gaub Slot.it app is useless. Use nRF toolbox. That’s why I had to turn it around on my Carrera track:) But if I have to changeover the cable’s to use it on Carrera , it sort of useless too! Anyway thanks for your tips:)
@ggaub
@ggaub 3 года назад
@@clausbjerga2745 yeah, there must be something else going on. There shouldn't be a need to swap the cables when it's in AC mode, as seen in this video. However, there have been firmware updates since this was taken, and maybe there's a bug that you're finding. That track is packed away, so I can't do any testing right now. Definitely post in the slot.it forum on slotforum.com so that others can offer their ideas.
