Well even in Yugoslav times Slovenia was few levels more developed in comparison to other regions with Croatia beeing next. Plus there were no wars on Slovenian territory apart from 10 day skirmish. What you saw in the news about Yugoslavia never really applied to Slovenia.

David reminds me of me, when I traveled solo through Europe back in mid 1981. Back then there was no social media whatsoever. Just magazines of Europe on $10 per day kinda stuff. TV was all in local lingo, no BBC or international channels nadda, nothing. Crazy memories from that time having met some James Bond type personalities. It was the cold war era. But David walking in the rain somehow? brought it all back. The running shoe problem in Budapest? Man I paid US $110 for a pair of Adidas, and that was back in 1981. Walked a million miles through Europe, and the investment was worth it believe me. Love the David

Hi David, great video. I have been thinking of visiting Slovenia, have not been. Perhaps this summer, looks like a very natural country with great old architectural. The capital sounds like a city of the size that i would like, not too small and not too big. Huge cities can be overwhelming for many people. Speaking of population and demographics its interesting to note that in colombia this increase in population has been a thing of the more recent times. Starting in the middle of the 20th century the population started to go up quite a bit in some cities in colombia. For example if you would go back to 1950 medellin actually had a similar population to Ljubljana now. Now medellin is similar in size to rome, thats a lot of increase in population! Other cities around the world are more steady in population without such major changes

The funny thing is, as someone who live here in Celje, with about 38k residents, I find our capital way to big. So whenever we visit a foreign city "city", like Budapest or Wien It's quite a shock with how big they are.

@@DavixDevelop you live in a city of a very good population, a city made to support a population from 30 to 40 thousand I guess. Many people would like that. These things change though over time. Medellin too was like your city some 100 years ago or so. That's how people lived back then. Some cities have become so big in the last 50 years or so

The three bridges.. The middle bridge was from before, one of the most important ones here. It had metal fence at that time. Plecnik, famous Slowenian architect, who was an architect of a lot of buildings in Slowenia, especialy in Ljubljana and is famous for his style with arches, made one more bridge on each side meant for walking. He replaced the metal fence on the middle one and put the stone one on all three. Until a couple of years ago the middle one was meant just for trafic and the side ones for walking, but with modernization this part of Ljubljana became no trafic zone, so now all three are used just for walking, with exception of some minimal deliveries, but they are allowed just in the morning, for those with special alowance.

5:20 the system lists the names of the stations. But it is not easy to match the written words with the spoken words. The Hungarian writing style is unique, as is the language. If you don't know it, it will be very difficult. However, I see that the passenger information monitor system is partially working. At the train station, calculate the prices with at least a double multiplier. HUF 550 for a small bottle of water is a lot. 6:10 asset protection warning. The train staff can mostly filter out problematic passengers. However, he can only remove them from the train if they do not have a ticket. If this can be found out before boarding, they will not even be allowed on. The crew of the train coming after them is notified of those deposited in this way, so they can be quite efficient. 7:36 Door opening sound signal for the blind. It also sounds when closing. This is a basic thing for the latest type of railcar.

Made me look up Slavic history... Commonly, Slavs had a flexible lineup of spirits/fairies, not 'deities', as symbols for different aspects of life. For most of them Slavic spirit of love is Lada, not 'Živa'. However, there are no known rules about their names so a spirit or a fairy, which may be a better word for them, may have been called differently in different parts of the ancient European landscapes. Fascinating, our old Europe. Keep travelling!
@valentintapata2268
@valentintapata2268 2 месяца назад
Živa is always referred to as a godess, not a fairy. She is a Slavic godess of life and fertility connected with summer, spring water, sowing and reaping (agriculture). Živa usually holds an apple and a few ears of wheat. Lada is a diferent godess, that of love, matrimony and children.

@@kristjanmatelic6478 Thank you for the info. Just note that I did not talk about Mokosh. That is a different goddess to Lada. I merely made a comment on David's word.He said that Živa was a godess/fairy of love. Mokosh, by the way and according to my sources, a Mother Goddess to all other goddesses/fairies, and is the same for the East Slavs. Lada is one step below. Not the same goddess/fairy. I have also discovered that Slavic and German pantheon have the same roots - again, the info came from a history-oriented academic page I was looking at the other day, not from some prick and his garage. History that we do not know, but should, is super fascinating.
@kristjanmatelic6478

@@user-mh7ek6ud8e Alpine Slavs/Slovenes/Carantanians were the first Slavic people to accept Christianity from the West. By that time, the Church was so powerful that it did not bother to write down the Rodnovery belief system of the West Slavs (Slovenes are a genetically West Slavic group, but today speak a more South Slavic language), so we don't know much about the gods of Slovenian ancestors. Živa was the most important Goddess for the West Slavic group and Mokosh was the most impotant for the East Slavs.. and also the highest mountain of Slovenia (coat of arms on the flag) is called Triglav, which is also the name of the West Slavic three headed deity, however there is no written evidence that the mountain was named after that god, but you can imagine that the Church was doing everything to erase anything connected to the pagan past.
@user-mh7ek6ud8e
@user-mh7ek6ud8e 2 месяца назад
@@kristjanmatelic6478 Agree, the church is intentionally destroying, and already has destroyed almost everything of, our past. I personally do not call our history a "pagan" history any more. I am learning how to appreciate it with every day that passes. Our ancient view of the world was then and is today, superior to the current religious hallucinations. Agreeing that the fairies/godessesare just a symbolic, or metaphoric if you wish, description of wonders of the nature around us, living in harmony with the nature is the best thing we could aspire to. Our survival depends on nature's health.
