As a fellow Slovene I am baffled and shocked that I've never heard of the village / town where people walk around and open doors to strangers while naked! Outrageous! ... Where did she say that place was? Asking for a friend.

On the whole walking around naked thing, I think maybe that was the explanation that the guy who answered the door gave her. “Everyone walks around naked in the house, come on in and take your clothes off!” 😂😂😂

Well, I'm from Serbia and, as any Gen X Balkan guy know for a fact, Slovenian girls and guys are always naked. And they are doing it all the time. We sow this in your magazines in early 80's. In fact, for most of us, that was the first time that we had, actually, seen naked people. It had left the great impact on us. We will always love Slovenian girls. You are nice and friendly, not like our women, and you are always naked.

For the people sit around naked part oh how i wished you cut to you sitting there naked covering yourself and said something like “I dont know what you’re talking about” 🤣

My father when he prepares to take shower, sometimes doesn't take shower another 2 hours, he walks in underwear, my friend came once and she was socked and I didn't even notice 😂😂😂 but that's about it, and he works outside without a T-shirt when it's hot. That's all

We lived in NE Italy for 3 years, we LOVED Slovenia! Slovenia is by far the most underated country in Europe.

Been to Slovenia a few times, love it! I also love potatos although I loved them beforehand. Never saw a naked Slovene either. Now I think about it even the potatos were in jackets

I'd say if you're in LA (or a lot of major cities) you don't really have that sense of connectedness to other Americans. But if you're in a rural area there is a very strong sense of being American. When I was a kid in the 90s and early 2000s, there was a much stronger sense of Americans being bound together as well everywhere. That's diminished partly because the Internet has enabled greater international connections and more atomized media consumption. However, there's also a strong sense of self-loathing among many Americans today, particularly in the cities.

Slovenia is fantastic and even though the country is so small, there are clear regional differences. At my grandmother's house, you always got a lot of polenta, pasta and risotto in addition to potatoes. Something that is fascinating is all the dialects. as a child I mostly spoke Slovene with my grandmother, so when I'm in or around Nova Gorica I still understand what they say reasonably well, but in some other parts of the country i more or less need an interpreter..

Things? 'flapping' everywhere ~ 'pointing' at various directions? That belongs in a book of 'Barbara Quotes' . . . one of the most important, memorable things i have ever heard in my now altered life.

The stockings thing reminded me of my first time in Germany. I arrived late at night and was offered beer but declined as I was going right to sleep. Upon awakening, my friend's family, including children, were all sitting at the table for breakfast with beer. I was given a beer without asking. I looked at the kids drinking beer for breakfast. I was being pranked because of a preconceived mentality that Germans drank only beer all the time.

It may be an age thing but my family used to use the phrase, "Tvoje Jajce bo zmrznizale" all the time. And that was gender neutral becuse it could refer to your ovaries or your testes. I've been in Canada for over 47 years so I cannot confirm if that phrase is still used. I don't know about just a piece of paper but sitting on the ground without a blanket, towel or jacket was a big no no. So I think there is some partial truth there.

Potatos can be eaten raw, fried, boiled, baked, and probably many more ways I haven't even thought of. They saved Europe from devastating starvation. Who could possibly hate such a noble tuber? Haters be damned!

What I love about Slovenian is that despite it being such a small country it really still has everything you could possibly want from a country. Slovenian has the mountains with rivers and lakes as well as beaches on the ocean it has small villages but also bigger cities all with lots of rich history there really is nothing at all that this country is missing and because it is that small you never have to travel for eternitys to get from one point to another it really is just a few hours to get from the mountains to the sea or to its beautiful capital by car.

I am an American DC who lived in Slovenia in the late 90s in Kranj and practiced with an orthopedic surgeon in his private office. I had a lot of friends there and my American girlfriend and I were the first American couple to be married in the Republic of Slovenia. We were wed at Bled Grad. It was arranged by my great friend Marjan Strukjel. That resulted in the castle beginning weddings there. So I consider Slovenia as my second country. I was very saddened to learn about the floods. Knowing how the villages are located in narrow valleys in Gorenska, I am horrified to think of how they might have been ravaged.

Slovenia, along with Czech Republic and Poland rank among the top European countries I would want to visit. It's not a coincidence that they all happen to be Slavic nations as I have always been quite enamored with these cultures and people. Their way of life, music, landscapes, and weather just have a way of immersing myself into the childhood stories and games I was always fascinated with. And while a lot of that pertains to Europe in general, there is a distinct aura that surrounds these nations.

Hi Barbara, I spent the month of June in Slovenia 2023 and loved the kind friendly people, the beautiful lakes, rivers, mountains and valleys. Ljubljana was super charming also. I felt safe. My favorite food was in Piran.

Because I have a friend that is into naturism ways and who goes off in that direction (I know he goes to Slovenia and Croatia) for vacation every year, I wonder if she hasn't manage to settle in one of the few naturist heavy areas.

I had a very strange dream that Barbara was in last night that (relax everyone it wasnt that kind of dream). I dreamt we were in a car driving through the Balkans and she was like showing off places and sites and we ended up driving through an old war torn village that looked like some place in Bosnia or Kosovo or something that had been abandoned for many years. Thats all i really remember and yes i too find it a bit strange that some random dude in Wisconsin is dreaming of sight seeing in Europe with a RU-vidr. My fathers from Kranj Slovenia my mothers Croatian and I’m born in Australia .. long story short Our history is very rich my surname dates back to 1241 ! My late great grandparents had a dvorac in visoko Slovenia ! Unbelievable my great grandparents are buried In škofja loka ! Dad’s great aunt was a nun in sibenik Croatia.. 1241 two brothers fled the mongol invasion one settled in Dalmatia “ Croatia “ one in Slovenia after the mongols destroyed their castle “ dvorac “ yet I received a family tree out of America’s fort Lauderdale back in 2001 ! With all our family history from the churches funded by a distant relative in the USA .

I think the nakedness is referring to people walking round in minimal clothing in the summer, so topless men and women having bra or bikini top on. no fully naked naked. might be wrong but i think its that.

Next week, I have to choose one of my accepted universities for my Ph.D.; one of them is in Germany, and one of them is in Slovenia. I heard lots of good things about Germany and its greatness, but Slovenian people seem kind and warm. I like nature, culture, and the friendliness of Slovenians. It is so hard to choose. People say Germany is better for migration and International students, but I just can't accept it. There is something about Slovenia that feels like a “Home”. Am I crazy, or is Slovenia extremely underrated ?!

These girls were LDS missionaries who had church missions in Slovenia. They would have knocked on a lot of doors. I saw these same two on another RU-vid channel. Same video clips. As to the naked men comment, I think that girl probably never actually looked down to confirm the guys were totally naked. She even implied that. Her eyes would be focusing on the guy's face when in doubt I'm sure. When I as an American heard her comment I interpreted it that way because I never in a thousand years would believe Slovenians answer the door naked as a common practice. Both girls were very positive about Slovenia because it is a wonderful country after all!

We hiked once for 2 months. Some days Vienna, 6 Weeks Slovakia, some days in Hungary, 3 Weeks Slovenia. All super locations! However... What struck me in Slovenia was that everybody acted as if their country was just a village filled with neighbours and friends. We started in Lublijana (chill-city) and went to Maribor after a few days... asking at the tourist information for good hikes, vegetarian restaurants and B&B's where we could cook ourselfs. She (it was just 1 person) got us the absolute finest info in about 15 minutes, including cool playgrounds, castles, hidden spots for our 8 year old son... not just for their city... but for the whole country!!! Logarska dolina (the valley is so vast, almost every car-commercial with mountains is taken here), Kranska Gora, Soça valley (probably the most beautifull river) up to Kobarid. Again to the tourist office, the same unbelievable precise and countrywide info, including advice on the local wines... bought 2 bottles of the vast range (remember... we are still in the tourist office). We checked in to an appartment, the owners see our bottles... hmmm... are you interested in regional wine? Yep! She turns out to be the quality inspector of the region... and 1 minute later we got ourselves into an appointment... 3days later they organised a "simple diner" what ended up to be a fantastic bbq with a wine degustation spanning all regions of Slovenia. Climbed mount Krn from the south, resulting in a hike of 13km and 3000m hight difference, upon descending an old guy waved us in to a barn, somewhere in the middle of absolutely nowhere. He offered us cheese, bread and something to drink... for free. Turned out he was alone in the mountains, making cheese. He gave us the whole tour of how it's done... but remind... neither of us could understand what the other was saying. He offered us a ball of cheese and wanted nothing in return, so i eventually gave him my pocket knife. Picked up a friend in Trieste, visited Skokjanske Jame (My god what a cave!!!) put our (rented) car onto a flat car of a train train in Most-Na-Soçi and we travelled in our car, on the train, to Bled. And so on... Never (and we visited about 30 countries), ever, was life so happy, people so genuinly concerned and nature so beautifull as in Slovenia. When we got back home, my wife said... if there's one country i would move to it's Slovenia... she still does! Btw Patatoes rock!

Love the jazz background music! My mother’s parents were Slovenian and moved to the USA around 1910 I think. My mother was born and raised in Ohio but spoke Slovenian as a first language because of her parents and living in a Slovenian neighborhood. Then when my mom went to Slovenia (Yugoslavia) for her first time in the 1980s and spoke the Slovenian that she learned as a kid, the Slovenians told her “We don’t speak that way anymore!” I guess my mother’s words were old fashioned or pattern of speech. Perhaps like, instead of saying “Why did you say this?” an old fashioned English speaker from hundreds of years ago would say “Wherefore say you this?” My mother’s tongue was out of fashion! Anyway, I have never been to Slovenia, but I WILL go someday soon. I promise! I have the information about where my grandparents lived, and I want to see that beautiful country! I live in Slovenia and it is such a beautiful country, I have made some amazing friends. The first village i lived in was very welcoming. BUT the village I live in now is polar opposite! There are many alcoholic older men, who are very verbally aggressive! They walk around in their underwear with belly hanging out 🤮 such a shame to behave like this to a single older woman. Luckily I do have a couple of lovely neighbours. The previous village I was involved in all community activities but here, I now keep to myself.

I'm from the States and have traveled to several European countries as well a few in Asia and Africa. My experiences have been to soak in as much of the culture as I could. I didn't want to be seen as the stereotypical "Ugly American" tourist. While I do appreciate my home country it has been a blessing to visit other places.

If it is true that Slovenians actually don't run around their houses in the buff I'm cancelling my flight ticket now........

I don't think the American means literally naked. I have noticed that Americans tend to call having little clothes on for being "naked". My guess is that the guy was in underwear or wearing a shorts while being bare chested. That is what counts as naked to many Americans. There was some video about people at a pride parade with little clothes on an all these American conservatives in the comments below were outraged at people being "naked" in public. No, they were not naked. They just had a lot less clothes on than what would be normal in a public square.

Wow, I need to move to this secret "naked" village, it's the kind of place I would feel totally comfortable in. Americans class being shirtless or in swimwear as being naked, Europeans being naked are completely without any kind of clothing.

Sitting on cold ground - yes, we have that in New Zealand - scientifically proven and expounded by various great-aunts to cause ... hemorrhoids. They never mentioned stockings. Didn't have children either. Apparently the husbands-to-be were lost in the war. Some were later found in Australia, but no one talks about that.

Yes yes .. many of these I have seen ( not naked people ) .. my first trip one of the people I chat with on Instagram was showing me around her city .. and her parents invited me for lunch .. all food from their garden .. dodole ( potato dish ) salad with pumpkin seed oil . Home n my add schnapps .. and the people I’ve met have stayed friends and we get together every time I visit .one of my American friends that lives there said if you walk around with no shoes outside you will get sick ( according to the older Slovenes )
