The difference between singers like Peabo and the singers of this era is that they didn't need all of the vocal calisthenics to sing! They used chops sparingly, they exercised vocal control AND NONE of them sounded like the other!! Luther, Peabo, Donnie, Sam Cooke, Marvin, Freddy, Teddy, and the list goes on and on ALL had their OWN distinct voice! These kids now days are good BUT don't sing with the passion, heart and soul that the singers of those years did!

Peabo knows how to take a note somewhere else, when he knows he wont be able to hit the high note the songs were famed for! That takes skill. Most singers pride allow them to try to hit the note and they fail and sound painful! And the crowd cringes.
There were no moments (at least not in the first song) where there was any doubt that he couldn't hit a note and had to work around it. If anything there was more, MUCH MORE, movement within the phrases than on the original version

My point I made very clear in my comment that he didn't have those fat out-of-shape black girls that are usually the background singers he has some ones that are fine and look like they care about their health. You go to most of these other concerts and they are really out of shape
