My go to saying about Japanese animation is that all you ever, EVER, need to have watched is cowboy bebop and ghost in the shell 1995 movie. Sure, maybe we could put ghost in the shell stand alone complex 1&2 there and maybe, just maybe, neon genesis evangelion. A heavy maybe on the neon genesis as it is so fcked at mid point on the series.
