Today's video is about slug bait versus use of copper bands for slugs and snails. In my video: How to get rid of slugs, snails and earwigs (link: • HOW TO GET RID OF SLUG... ) I showed the results of my first experiment with use of copper as a slug and snail deterrent and I also started a second experiment to compare the use of iron phosphate slug pellets versus use of copper bands. Now several weeks later I am here to show you the results of that experiment and the results might be surprising - chemical methods are not the only route to take and it is worthwhile exploring other methods. Regarding the use of copper there was so much conflicting information out there on the internet that I felt is worthwhile to carry out a series of experiments myself and film the results. The use of copper bands has definitely worked, however 2 things must be taken into consideration and possibly are not correctly explained - leading to disappointing results and conflicting information. If you use copper, the band must be wide enough so that the slugs and snails cannot cross it without having their entire bodies on the band - even the big slugs and snails - and also you must "limb-up" or "leaf-up" to make sure that the slugs and snails are obliged to meet the copper barrier and can't just avoid it by climbing up a leaf or branch that is touching the ground outside the copper perimeter and is acting as a bridge.
