The Suzuki Burgman 400 is a great mile-munching scooter. We've recently had one for a few weeks, here's how we got on. Full written road test on our website: www.scooterlab.uk
I live in the States, Oregon, and bought a 650 Burgman, I love it! The most fun I’ve had in years! I am 72, and wish I had bought one years ago! I ride in all weather but snowy and icy conditions! I put 1500 miles on it the 1st month☺️
Much prefer the simpler spec of the Burgerman ;) to other maxi's on the market, less bells and whistles to go wrong while still being a more than capable scooter.
Just bought an Burgman 400 in June this year :-) I don't really want to drive anything else now to be honest :-D Its motor with 30hp is more than enough plus the Burgman 400 combines comfortable and sporty driving very well :-) I ride along "regular" morotcycles a lot and I have no problem keeping up with them. Greeting from germany :-)
To be honest I don't think the lack of equipment is a let down because a lot of people have digital screens in their faces all day part of the enjoyment of riding is to get away from the world and be free of technology. The more electronics, screens etc the more to fail and distract. One reason the Royal Enfield bikes are so popular is because they lack the tech and are very retro and cool looking. I'd rather basic tech that is actually useful such as traction control and ABS. We see more and more tech appearing on bikes and we see the price rise as a result, same in cars, why not just make basic bikes and cars that are cheaper and do the job just fine ?
Just purchased the 2024 Burgman 400 yesterday, I purchased a new one in 2004 when my first son was born, but took a spill on it and the wife said that was it for two-wheel bikes. Fastward 20 years and here I am. I was looking for the Burgman 650, but Suzuki no longer offers the 650, so I settled for the 400. So far I put 15 miles on the Bike coming home from the Bike dealership. Today it snowed so I was unable to ride. Can't wait to get back on it. It will probably take me 6 months to get through the break-in period.
Would I trade the shockingly good twin disk braking on the front, the room and seat comfort for my six-four; for electronic gismos that I will never use? Not a chance. To say the Suzuki is a lower spec machine.... It depends what you value. I really value my Burgman 400 simplicity and reliability riding in remote areas in Northern Canada.
I have had two Burgman 400s. I love them. They're not as fast as some but they're comfortable and suit my style of riding. Just riding at moderate speeds enjoying the scenery. Thinking of scenery there seems to be some lovely riding country round your way.
As others have said, not everbody wants keyless ignition or some of the other "improvements". The Burgman is a great scooter and has everything that I, and many others need for a daily driver. Mines a 2012 model which has the largest storage of any of the models. I can't think of anything which would replace it, besides maybe a TMax (but with worse economy)
Very good of you to take out a retro scooter at 2023 prices and speak so kindly about it! I suppose Suzuki think there are folk out there that still enjoy steam engines! I'm an old fart but love tech/power/reasonable prices/high re-sale prices so only have 3 Honda's
Good and fair review. Defiantly an underrated scooter, especially in the UK! Would have went for the 400... but decided to go all out with a Burgman 650. It's like riding a mini Goldwing of sorts lol. Don't knock it till you try it. 😅
I bought it because of its beautiful appearance, I like the analog speedometer, black color, the seat is comfortable, the lights are great....I don't miss the tcs as well as the tft lcd...I love it...
I just went to a dealership to test one of these ; I was “ too late “ in the day so I’ll need to go back another day , only show up earlier . I almost pooped my pants at the $10,000.00 price tag !
which one do you prefer? I was thinking to get one of them, can´t really decide which one i should get. I would go mainly city driving and sometimes go on a little country trip
@@admirali6239 the burgmans have a very comfortable almost car like feel to them, Xmax are just as comfortable but feel a little more sporty, the weight feels lower on the burgman and feel a little more balanced, they also feel better than the Xmax when taking a passenger, if I could only keep one I’d choose the burgman,
Launched in 2017 its 6 and a half years old so definitely showing its age......definitely in need of a refresh big time when you compare it to honda adv 350, bmw c400gt peugeot xp400 its way off the pace now.....I really hope there's a new one pending.....
Well a whole year down the line and still no sign?.???? 23 plates now selling for 5k which seems realistic mind.....wait or jump on one? @ScooterLabUK
@dank9288639 Always a bit of a compromise when choosing a bike when you are tall. Surprisingly my Nmax 125 in the feet forward position has more legroom than the Xmax
I got a Honda ADV 150 - I'm liking the 85 (US) MPG but for the price it was new I could've gotten this or even bigger used. NO one knows what the gas prices will increase to, I loathed $5.30 a gallon for gas and the scoots will come in clutch for fuel savings for sure.
The only reason we don’t is that the UK importers don’t have demo scooters. They also don’t advertise so it makes it hard to get a scooter, or to pay the bills. Doing a road test takes over a week by the time we’ve ridden it, done video, photos, edited the video, written an article, laid it out and published it. I used to do a lot of road testing with SYM and they’re a great scooter so it’s a shame.
@@alfiedobsonofficial4074 you can read my review and see what I got under the seat here: scooterlab.uk/life-in-the-old-dog-suzuki-burgman-400-road-test/
@@ScooterLabUKan idea. Show all the storage and compartments on each scooter. It's very hard to find a video or images of all the compartments and electrical sockets. I don't know all the models in extreme detail so I cannot know about all of their compartments and charging sockets etc. Maybe use standard sized items to show storage like 2L bottles of drinks, 330ml cans. How many can you fit in each area. So we can easily understand the size we are seeing. Thank you for the good review.
not a bad video but on about all the little extras that will and do go wrong a wind sheeld is to stop the wind not girate up and down in frunt of you i bet you got an i phone too if you want gagets get a tesla its full of them
Odd that Suzuki priced its scooters at the top end. Suzuki was always the bargain basement of the "big four" motorcycle manufacturers. At one point, the 650 was a lot more expensive than one of its cars. They are going to suffer at the hands of some the decent scooters coming out of China eg Zontes.
@@clangerbasher Better off learning on a manual bike, pass the test then you can ride anything. I got the A learner permit , not sure what kind of bike to get, might get a shadow 750, heavy but low down. I sat on a 950 Vstar Bolt today, absolutely loved it, the riding position was really comfortable and it really didn't feel as heavy as a CB500 because the weight is low down. If only the price wasn't so high. Rebel 500 is another great bike but too expensive for me.
@@o00scorpion00o Thank you. But I have decided to stay with auto 125cc. I just can't do gear changes and I don't feel safe. But thank you for taking time to reply to me. It's nice you are concerned.
Honda adv 350 has twin rear piggyback shocks that are really jarring and firm, also lefthand switchgear was designed by an idiot, indicator switch is useless to operate, looks good though with good underseat storage but single front disc and no handbrake
