2:06 might be the part you're looking for. 2:12 shows the root of the problem, 2:29 shows result of the problem shown next to the correct one.
Correction: 1:16 The logo should face out for live mic stand mounting, look at the picture on the right at 1:30 and you will see what I mean.

SM7B not tightening properly into its housing bracket? Knob gets tight but mic still loose?
This video might be a good place to start.
Please let me know if I'm incorrect about any information in the video.
I'm not affiliated with Shure, just had a problem that it seemed many others had.

For some reason I had two more of the plastic washers so I just put them against the mount on the knob side of the yoke. Love this video, helps a lot.

Ahh thank you! I disassembled a tension knob trying to get at the little Allen screw on the yoke... had no idea there were so many washers inside! you got me up and running again!

Thanks man, this worked. First time I tried I didn't have the cylinder space fully seated. Went back and tried again and now it works. Thanks for the video. I wish they would make his more robust so this procedure wouldn't be necessary though. Cheers.

Got it fixed! The only thing I did wrong was having the wavey washer on the other side. I flipped it, tightened it and then it's not loose anymore.

The washers facing the right way is the huge thing IMO. I did everything else right, but the mic was still super loose. Made sure the washers were the right way per your instructions and it worked like a charm!

Thanks for this. It was actually the swivel on mine that was loose but the to tighten the hex bolt I had to remove the mount and like an idiot I didn't pay attention to the way the washers were placed. You timed you video perfectly as I just followed along and there you go. All nice and snug.

I couldn't get the brass sleeve to go all the way in til I used the dull side of a razor blade to prop up the inside washers to align properly, then it worked! Now tight as factory.

My guess is that there's a limit to how much it can be loosened until that cylinder has the room to jiggle out of place and, once bumped, the cylinder jumps above the washers and stops you from getting it to tighten until you get the cylinder to sit flush again (which, if the washers moved at all, will require the disassembling and reassembling as shown in the video). Because it's ubiquitous, id call it a very minor design flaw. If they ever do an SM7C (they're not, to my knowledge), let's hope they'd take this into account. It after all, a pretty pricey item. Thankfully the fix is reliable though, we gotta give it to em for making it easy to fix, if you know how (like anything, right?). Anyway, Sorry for typos. Writing on my phone. Have dandy day! 🍰

@@crowlsyong I I’ll try that again asap when I’m back home. The little story is that my first sm7b copy had a crazy rattling issue so I exchanged it, but the tilting movement was way smoother, felt light, and stayed in whatever position I put it, while not needing the screws to be tightened too much. Now with my second copy unless I tighten it hard, it will sort of wobble, if I tilt it down, it will go up a few centimetres. So it’s always tightened very hard, so yeah it works but it’s harder to handle on a daily basis because I have to put more strength on it to tilt it while using it (sorry if my English isn’t good). It’s not a big deal and don’t want to refund it a second time, but it’s just a bit annoying.

Doubtful. It was purchased from BHPHOTO, and they are trustworthy. I'm guessing that I simply loosed my mic too much one day, the washer jumped in front of one of the screws, then I wasn't able to retighten until I took it apart and realigned said washers.

Thank you for your reply. I just bought a sm7b from amzom uk (verified reseller) at a great deal, I worried if it is a counterfeit. I found that a lot of counterfeit has a lose yoke, thats why i put up such comment.
